an official 2018 post
Wherein I begin my annual rediscovery of DW early in the year. If I'm going to leave LJ and post here, I've really got to commit. It's just hard abandoning years of personal journaling over there; the fandom side I've more or less left behind with impunity. (And have given up on replacing: my fannishness is spread across twitter and tumblr and ffa to some degree, but mostly I guess I am just not very interactive about fandom anymore? Anyway.)
I'm two days into my new shift at work for the quarter, 7pm-3am, and I'm not going to lie -- it's rough. I'm too old for this late night life! All it makes me is tired! It has perks though: easy parking, easy traffic on the way back (on the way in I still get stuck in rush hour traffic), no supervisors, no dress code, low-key, bonus pay, a long morning/afternoon to read and run errands and exercise and cook. I just have to fully switch over my sleep schedule to 4p-11a. Right now my body still wants to wake up at 8 or 9 because I'm not accustomed to sleeping in, but that leaves me unhappily sleep-deprived.
Once that settles in, I'm going to start up a regular volunteer day at the women's center consignment shop, and am still doing 1-2 Asia Society events a month. Fitting in 1-2 dinners/hang-outs with the Shaws a month, and 1-2 boardgame days or other events w/ the Houston group, so socially and community-wise I'm doing well. My cat always makes me happy. I'm ideally fitting in more regular exercise with the new schedule, along with cooking and reading. So far so good.
Currently reading: just finished The Thief and starting The Queen of Attolia soon; also reading The Dark Days Pact, featuring supernatural demon-hunting regency heroes.
Sports and news are disappointing and terrible; Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card is a gem. ♥

That's sounds like a /rough/ shift. My body clock would be screaming if I tried to shift to that. Do get the choice of a new shift next quarter?

Saturday morning cartoons introduced me to Cardcaptor Sakura. That was aaages ago; maybe I'll watch the new one and see how it holds up to my fuzzy childhood memories. (How did I start shipping Touya/Yukito? Was it through fandom bc surely it wouldn't have been through the TV series?)

Maybe everyone using DW more will help us revive a bit the community feel from those LJ days!

Ahh yes, the new CCS is pretty and cute. You should give it a try! They definitely cut out the Touya/Yuki (Toby/Julian lol) bits from the US version.
