Back from hiatus! And also from St. Louis!

Hiatus was mostly due to loads of work and essays, but the St. Louis trip rounded it up. I visited the Washington University School of Law (where I'll be going this fall, oh baby, my new home) and also kasugai_gummie and co. ♥

I don't have much in the way of updates except that sapphira_angel is writing YunJae/JaeHo high school AU fic! akdjlkjds :D I am watching my awesome Big Bang is Great DVD tomorrow with efio_47, loveblackcoffee, and peachgirldb tomorrow! (Finally!)

dokutoku_ai's SuJu high school AU fic is also made of awesome!

And some meta thoughts on slash and the rating of. I saw this post on fanficrants, which made me think of my own mini-post on it a few days back.


I've realized that fandom has corrupted me deeply and desensitized me to a lot of filthier things. How did I realize that? Because I was trying to rate my fics and I realized I tend to consider heavy petting barely PG-13 and rarely R; my ideas of what constitutes "explicit" are....slightly skewed. I considered the blowjob description in Truth Where You Least Expect It deserving of only a PG-13 the first time around, because I'd only used the word "erection" once and nothing was really dwelt on, other than some kissing and some hands on thighs. Yeah, um, then I read some other PG-13 fics and was like, whoops, this rates an R, doesn't it?

It works the same way between PG and PG-13. I don't think to warn for curse words or even suggestive language; only when the language crosses some imaginary line of filth in my mind do I think about rating it PG-13. A grope or two, clothed, doesn't rate a PG-13 in my mind. My morality and chastity standards are evidently defunct, hah.

Possibly this is why I'm having such a hard time rating my Kyufic. I think it rates an R, maybe a hard R, but I wouldn't go quite as far as labeling it NC-17. I don't think it's that explicit: there are no lengthy descriptions of sex (or not so I perceive), even though there is a pretty high occurence of sex (in the number of non-explicit mentions). I think the parts of fandom that have really affected my perspective this way is the explicit BL manga and the kinky, hardcore HP fics. Everything else just seems tame in comparison. But I think SuJu's range for NC-17 starts a lot lower than in HP fandom. Possibly. I don't think I've read that many NC-17 fics in SuJu to begin with, so there's not much to judge. No one writes them!


I also have thoughts on RPF/RPS. Does anyone care?

I pretty much rate fics depending on the sexual content. Mild kissing (no tongue) is a PG, French kissing is a PG-13, non-descriptive sex is an R, and explicit blow-by-blow sex is NC-17. Anything else is G. I don't give much thought for curse words either-- I mean, kids get exposed to swear words everywhere so what difference would it make?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on RPS (if I'm correct that RPS stands for real person slash; otherwise just disregard this sentence entirely)

Not being American and having my own rating system, I never use NC-17 though there probably have been a few fics that actually deserved it. With me, R is as high it goes (well, X is for porn and um...).

Is it the RPS? O: Big Bang is more "real" to me than other celebrities, but as a whole I've never even thought of RPF issues until I saw other people bring it up. I just fic and read fic about everything I like, and I think it's supposed to be morally questionable, but I'd probably fic my RL friends if I REALLY felt like it. o__O

Idk what it is really; possibly b/c I got into BB first because of their music and only stayed for that (well, and some leadersshi dorkiness). It just realy weirds me out to read fic for them. They seem so much more real to me than SuJu's stage/exaggerated personalities.
