boston reunion
The weekend in Boston was fun despite the cold and rainy weather, but it fucked up my sleeping schedule and my two days back at work so far have been rough because I'm so tired and not getting enough sleep! The sleep mask helps, but I still tend to wake up after only five or so hours of sleep, which adds up and turns my brain to mush. There's a lot going on this week with meetings, both work and fun, but living it all out is tiring. (I'm so sleepy.)
Saw Black Panther last week between the two weekend trips and loved it. It is, at heart, a superhero movie; however, it's also so much more, because it is a superhero movie starring a black cast in a black narrative and celebrating black characters and wrestling with questions unique to the black diaspora. The visuals were stunning, and it was funny besides. Everyone was also hot as hell and I'm into that.
Took Thursday and Sunday off to fully enjoy the Boston trip; travel went smoothly and the Airbnb was in close proximity to Dani and Mike's house, where we spent most of our time with everyone else watching TV, petting their dog, drinking wine, eating snacks, etc. Friday night involved Italian food and a lot of wine; Saturday involved a bakery, canceled karaoke plans due to two members being sick, a free Sam Adams brewery tour and free beer samples (meh, beer), then a homecooked meal, more wine, and party games: Newlywed game (Kevin and I won gold!), Celebrity, Telephone Pictionary. It was good fun but, man, so couply -- five couples, four of whom were married. We all paired off so well. Maybe I was just in the right mood or maybe alcohol really took the edge off, because I actually enjoyed hanging out with people and making conversation and didn't feel nearly as out of sorts as previously (the only non-white person in the group, yikes). Anyhow, Sunday involved watching some EPL, brunch (with a mimosa served in a pint glass), and then eventually making our way to the airport. A nice brief trip. We'll see Kristin and Alex again mid-April when we visit their new digs in San Diego. (I've got a lot of traveling lined up for April, and a lot of volunteering lined up for March.)
In the middle of reading Tessa Dare's When a Scot Ties the Knot and it's charming and funny and slightly tongue-in-cheek, and I'm enjoying it a lot overall. Very tropey. I just wish she hadn't written out the accent.
