The TL;DR backstory...
I had one of the most bipolar experiences in JE fandom in late 2005, early 2006, before most of my flist was swept away by love for KAT-TUN & Arashi & Yamapi and, you know, those endless Johnny's boys. I fell hard and fast after
life_of_eden &
wakkawoo brought KAT-TUN into my life, and Gokusen introduced a certain MatsuJun... I could not stop talking about KAT-TUN's tinfoil outfits, or their hot purple leather pants, among other things. I dragged my first-year roommate
among_the_lost and innocent bystander
thyme_hawthorne into the fray with me. Oh boy.
In those months, dozens upon dozens of GBs worth of videos and clips and music were downloaded. Pictures too. God, the folders I had sorted out for KAT-TUN.
jin_daily and
kame_daily were created, and
kamepi, with some ensuing wank. These were some of the best and worst times of my life. (I exaggerate.)
I like Pi now. I like Kame still. I love Ohno and Nino silly. I still listen to KAT-TUN's music all the time, and I couldn't stop flailing at everyone at work when Arashi's "We Can Make It" PV came out.
But JE and its fandom also leaves a bitter taste in my mouth because it's so closely tied to one of my...unsuccessful friendships. Drama and melodramatics aside, suffice to say I have a love/hate relationship (okay, truthfully, more like an "easily entertained/bitterly resentful" relationship) with it. It's "the one who seduced you and fucked you over and broke your heart in a million pieces and laughed about it" from the Fandom as Lovers Meme.
The last thing I want to do (especially right now, on top of my RL business) is fall into another similarly huge and shiny-filled music fandom. (I'm content with my Big Bang love with occasional peeps of w-inds. fangirling, really!)
But. Guys. This Korean phenomenon. I--I can't seem to escape it.
Super Junior. Rain. Se7en. Big Bang. SS501. DBSK.
( SEND HELP. )
Um. On a totally unrelated note, I was rereading Komatta Toki ni wa Hoshi ni Kike today and RLY, RLY WANTED TO FIC FOR IT. Fuck.
So, uh, I'm going to go...study People & Environment in SE Asia now...
