what is this shit?
Sep. 7th, 2009 11:34 pmOkay, as selfish and self-involved as I am with fandom and my RL, I have to come off hiatus long enough to say:
You guys. I've never been a 2PM fan, or a Jaebum fan, or really cared about them at all. I probably can't even name (much less recognize) all of 2PM.
But this shit? This shit is fucking ridiculous.
Jaebum leaving 2PM because of stupid comments he made about Korea four years ago? (Comments I finally got around to reading today, btw, and how is anyone dumb enough to take that for more than what it is? An insecure, lonely Korean-American who grew up used to the US and who got thrown into a culture that he just doesn't get and doesn't jive with. I have friends who make comments like these on a daily basis and I kind of look despairingly at them but what the fuck is going on with suicide petitions and hating someone so much as to drive him to give up his dreams and goals?)
What. the. actual. fuck.
Though, sorry if this comes off elitist or pedantic, but I feel like people shouldn't hate an entire country or culture for this, however disgusting it is. Otherwise we're doing the same thing he's being accused of doing - generalizing and hating on a country for no reason at all. It's a specific group of people (albeit a large and vocal and hateful group of people) who perpetuated this, and it's those netizens who deserve our loathing. Not Korea as a whole.
The Korean entertainment industry, taken as a whole, however, does have its issues. Definitely broken in some places, definitely doesn't meet our standards of what is fair and just and right - but I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not trying to figure out and judge that system right now. I'm just judging the people who encouraged this kind of hate. Take the kind of person who will participate so vitriolically in a hate meme, free to viciously attack someone he or she doesn't know behind the anonymity of the internet and the security of being backed up by other anonymous people - that kind of person, multiplied with 1000x more hate, and apply to this situation.
It really does make me want to punch someone in the face. Or, since I have no upper body strength, make them go through the exact same hell, where thousands of people you've never even met are hating on every little thing you do.
To those people: FUCK YOU.
And now I'm going back to my hiatus, where I am kpop-free and drowning in work. Just give me SJM, Christ.
