I went to St. Louis for Christmas but it's back to work now! Back to real life and the daily grind, but also to the cheering powers of my new favorite k-variety show, which I will now ramble on about at length.

I mentioned last entry I was going to check out Abnormal Summit/비정상회담, which is a Korean variety show that invites 11 foreigners (fluent in Korean) on to a mock G-12 summit (the twelfth is the Korean rep/weekly guest), wherein they debate various societal issues like cohabitation before marriage, Seoul living, sex education, and other topics. Being variety, it is always hilarious. But it is my new favorite show because it is also thought-provoking and challenging, with lots of culture clashes and different perspectives and good points and counterpoints even from POVs I disagree with. It is absolutely fascinating to see the influence of different cultural and personal upbringings manifest in each country rep and in how they react to each other. There's heated debate on the show, but they all do seem to respect and like each other off-set (though I'm sure it took time to get to know each other).

The current reps are from Ghana, China, Italy, Canada, USA, Turkey, France, Belgium, Germany, Australia and Japan (though the German rep came in after the initial four reps, where we had a UK rep instead). They are all either adorable or attractive or both, and with personalities I am super fond of now, nine episodes in.

[livejournal.com profile] intomorning is watching this show slowly with me, episode by episode, and we text/email/tweet to flail and react after each show.

More flailing. )
