Happy Super Bowl Day! My team (Carolina Panthers) is in it, so it's going to be more nerve-wracking than usual.

But also, more importantly, happy lunar new year! 祝你:恭喜发财、万事如意、身体健康、幸福快乐。新年快乐!!

It's the first time in a while I'm not close enough to my family, physically, to be able to go back and celebrate with them. Last year, I missed the day of due to bad weather and the icy roads, but I got to see them a week or so later so it was still very much about family. And I had my close (Chinese) friends in DC. Less so here in Texas, so we're making do: small gathering of newly-made friends in Texas (look, Ma, we're making friends!) invited over to casually watch the Super Bowl and eat some Chinese food. They are not Chinese or close enough to be doing dumplings by scratch, so we're just doing take-out. Maybe something to save for next year.

Also recently the Captive Prince trilogy finally concluded! Years and years after I started reading it, which was already years after she'd started writing it on LJ. I think it was around five years ago I binge-read and followed her serial chapter posting? Then bought Volumes 1 and 2 from her self-pub, only to find out she'd gotten a deal with Penguin to get them For Real Published. Exciting! But we'd have to wait so long for Volume 3!

Well, at long last, the conclusion is here and my books no longer match. I weep and miss the original covers. But as for the book itself -- I reread the first two volumes this weekend before diving into the third so I would be fresh into it. Spoiler-free reaction is that I still adore the whole thing and I am very happy with the last volume and conclusion. ♥ It is a feel good story that hits all of its tropes lovingly, and I think the pacing for the feelings and the plot is well-planned and well-executed. Basically, it makes me a happy reader.
