san diego in april
Apr. 19th, 2018 08:06 pmBack on day shift, success! And after a fun and delicious weekend to visit Alex and Kristin out in San Diego, back to work this week training our new Africa analyst. She's nice, easy to get along with, time will help everyone fit together, I'm sure. Very weird to be on the other side of the training process now.
San Diego was delightful! Fabulous weather, great coastline, hilly, everything was so colorful with flowers in bloom on every street and hillside. So pretty. Got to meet Alex and Kristin's adorable kitten, Pebbles, who is a stereotypical cat who likes to play and drink water from the tap and hop on tables and bat at water glasses. We got see the new house they just bought too! For a lot of money and not a lot of space, because real estate in California is no joke, but it's in what looks like will be a great neighborhood for them. It makes me excited about eventually buying our own place, but it's hard to want a house just for the sake of investment; I want it to be a place I actually want to live, to make it a home. We'll see where we are in two years.
Anyway! We ate mind-blowing ceviche the first night, with possibly the world's best octopus, and incredible fresh pasta the second night. Also went kayaking on the ocean and saw a seal! The kayaking part was fine, the bobbing on the ocean part when we paused made me sea-sick, ugh. I guess in the future I'll try to keep to rivers or lakes?
Had my annual physical this week and my triglycerides are too high. :( I need to cut white bread, white rice, desserts, etc. out of my diet and add more varieties of fruits and vegetables and complex carbs like oats and lentils and beans. So this is a good incentive to try getting more into healthier Mediterranean style food! Look at it as an opportunity. On the bright side, my eye doctor at today's annual eye exam said my eyeballs were healthy and vision unchanging and retinas attached. Woo. No detached retinas here.
This weekend: cleaning the apartment, going to the Asian market, and visiting the apartment complex in Houston where we'll be moving this summer to look at units/floor plans and secure our new place. It's exciting! There's much to look forward to! Including an insane August/possibly September full of traveling.
