eat the rich
For our potential Women in Entertainment program, I've been asked to look up some Asian women in Hollywood to invite...by my supervisor/the advisory board, who skew old and have no idea that if they've heard of someone, it's likely to be someone with a long-established career (e.g., Michelle Yeoh or Sandra Oh) or very very big in recent Hollywood (e.g., Constance Wu and Awkwafina) and we're looking at six-figure booking fees. It's almost impossible to get their agent/rep contact info to begin with so I've tried reaching out to some third-party booking sites and yikes. So far we've only gotten a reply for Lana Condor and she's $20-25,000 plus first-class travel fees. The crazy thing is that that is a reasonable appearance fee.
I have been grouchy all day partly due to this. Eat the rich! It is unconscionable that there is this much wealth in the world and yet so many people famished and in poverty. Not even in the world but in our own country, in our own backyards. The inequitable distribution of wealth is honestly outrageous. We have the resources to do more for our fellow man and we should. Capitalism says these celebrities are worth more because people are willing to pay more, but I think that's why capitalism is not how we should value basic human decency and need.
Also the fluctuating weather. It's been really nice to walk outside at work - mid to high 70s, breezy. But it's also muggy as fuck and the nights are hot and I want to be comfortable under my blankets, not overheated. Had to turn on the a/c last night and I resent that. Friday dips back to a high in the 40s! WTF Houston.
It has been so busy and I am cramming in three or four different social obligations this weekend so that I don't have to leave the apartment next weekend. Work should also be a little quieter next week with only one offsite program that I just have to attend, but not prep and organize. I could use the breather.
