A friend bounced off A Marvellous Light because she wanted something with more action and adventure, and I admit this was a slower start and slower paced story overall. Emotionally compelling imo, and I'm interested in the worldbuilding but I'd like to see it unfold a little more in the sequels too. But gosh, she really gets me on the prose and character dynamics.
