scanlations are srs bizness

So I was up in Pittsburgh with [livejournal.com profile] nightengale last week, right? And we did things like watch Drive & Heroes and also movies! But while I was reading her manga Banana Fish (WHICH YOU SHOULD ALL READ AND LOVE, even if it's impossible to get your hands on), I tried to pimp her some of the shiny BL stuff I love a lot (other than Boy Princess 'cause that's been pimped already, hee).

When I opened up my scanlation folder, my wife did a double-take.

I'm sure some of you have more! (Does it count if you have an external harddrive? 'Cause I don't.)

If you want something you know/think I have, feel free to request. I have 15.8GB of stuff. I must have something you want. ::offers her body up on a platter::

alskjfldk. I don't know. I think I'm giving up on my SSBB story. I'm kind of in a bad mood and don't want to write and also I would rather read. I have been trying for ages (read: two days) to get my hands on Brethren: Raised by Wolves by W.A. Hoffman. And now Melusine as recced by [livejournal.com profile] hametsuenorondo.

On an more RL-oriented note, am I fucked if I take the LSATs in late September/early October instead of June (if I want to send off applications this fall)? Probably. Aw, shit.

This post is full of whining, sry. :( I'm sure I will cheer up later.

...well, it's more than I have. Mainly because I dare not see how much I have. But probably less, I've been reading manga/manwha for shorter time period than you!

Regarding the LSATs, I have no idea but good luck! *huggles*

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
::clings and pets your panda::

You are so nice and lovely and sweet. I'm just going to, um, cling to you for a while, okay? :O

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man! I totally forgot about the stuff I burned off onto CDs. That's 17 volumes of Yakitate!!Japan and 23 volumes of HanaKimi. D: I have no idea when I accumulated all of this stuff.

Do yours tend to be full series? Shoujo, shounen? Or also random BL oneshots and one-volume deals? ::has so much yaoi pr0n omg::

[identity profile] emeraldcrystal.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Er. if it makes you feel any better, I have over double what you have? Oh. I have an external harddrive... that's probably why... But I pretty much keep everything I download so I have a lot of crap. (if there's anything you want, I'm sure I'll have something too. XD) SSBB story? Reading is good for you--I'm still trying to find that book you recced before... Covenants? Yeah... I hope you feel better soon. =D

[identity profile] svz-insanity.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
...

IS THAT A LOT, YOU ASK?

*giggles* That is a lot, Mei. *nodsnods*

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, that is a shiny prospect. If ever I see a shiny manga series on a scanlation website with no accessible downloads, I'll pester you to see if you have it. Thank you for the lovely offer.

I hope you find Covenants! It is not as obscure as the books I'm looking for, so libraries and bookstores actually stock it. Not that I am bitter about my fruitless search, oh no. (I will probably just buy it online.)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
And this is with me routinely deleting a bunch of oneshots and series every few months or so! Because I realize I don't actually remember what happens in them and go look and kind of wonder why I kept in the first place. ~_~

[identity profile] svz-insanity.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
I have 5. 75 GB of scanlations on my computer. I think I deleted all the ones that I don't reread. (I've had manga sitting there for ages that I keep telling myself 'I'll read Banana Fish someday... I'll read X someday just not now...' and etc. )

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
You have Banana Fish scanlations?

[identity profile] meritjubet.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Pandas are cute and thus deserve cute iconage.

Sure :) *glomps*

[identity profile] svz-insanity.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
*checks* I think I did? I don't anymore. I think I always got that series mixed up with Tokyo Crazy Paradise since they're both highly recommended.

[identity profile] emeraldcrystal.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
XDXD Well, oddly, I couldn't find it at my libraries and I didn't want to buy it until I found out how great it was... but I'll keep searching!

I just had a better look at the pics you provided--do you have all 26 vols of Komatta scanlated? And what do you have in the Yukine Honami folder that makes it over 600 mb? I checked mine and it's only a little over a 100 (even counting the manga I don't have in there, I don't think it would add up to 600mb...). And.... is there anything you would recommend? I've been out of the yaoi loop for over half a year. XP

Ah, sorry for all the questions!

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
OH MY GOD. EMI WOULD KILL FOR BF SCANLATIONS. The better to pimp the series out to the world. It's hard to pimp something you only have in hard copy, unless your pimping target happens to be in your apartment, reading your manga. (As I was. Oh BF. A+)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
God, no, I wish I had all of Komahoshi scanlated. ;o; I just have through vol9ch1, like everyone else who follows Peccatore Sanctuary. The rest is all Chinese raws.

And my folder sizes are deceptive, I realized afterwards, because only some are zipped and others are unzipped, which makes them take up more space.

No, I like questions! I like sharing my scanlations, the better to flail with others. Before I make recs, what kind of BL do you like best? Cute, fluffy, shounen-ai type? Or ones with some plot and some sex? Or ones with lots of gratutious sex? :O (I actually don't think I have too many of those, haha.)

[identity profile] svz-insanity.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Is it really that good? I've heard so many good things but you know me, short attention span ftw. (Remember Heroes? PotC III? .... YEAH.)

[identity profile] konnistique.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'll be happy to even have 15GB of free space on my compy right now .__.; *kicks useless ancient compy*

Good luck with RL business. :X *not anywhere near America so doesn't know how to help* I hope it'll work out in the end ♥ :D

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
It is so plotful. It's very 80s art so it doesn't have that shiny to keep you engaged, but oh the plot. It's like FAKE with less gay and more convoluted plot. Kind of. I fail at describing it. But there's definitely a reason it comes so highly recommended, I think.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
I have seen those Ravenclaw icons around everywhere. Hm.

I sympathize with your computer woes! Pre-college laptop, I didn't bother downloading things or going to sites with lots of pictures. Oh the memories...

♥ Thanks anyway. :"> The sentiment helps.

[identity profile] emeraldcrystal.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, good to know I'm not that far out of the loop. I like all of the one's I've seen in your folders... and I like both types you've mentioned, so any is fine! Thanks!

[identity profile] chibipuck.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Banana Fish! ♥ I think that would be my first intro to (semi) shounenai manga. (volume 3's(?)kiss scene!) I've always loved Ash and Eiji's closeness... Of course, the ending, the ENDING. GOD. I usually skip it so that I can read the side stories.

I'd said 15.something GB of manga is a lot, except I'm pretty sure I've I FAR SURPASSED that number several years ago. ::cough:: All of which is unhelped by my packrat like tendencies... ::coughcough::

re 15. GB scanlation folder

Last check I have around five times over XDXD. does that answer your question?
Partly because i read almost anything and partly I hate burning off uncompleted manga and partly I had the occasion (oops that's three parts ^__^) to went back for manga burned of on CDs and find I can't access the CD anymore

[identity profile] d-moonchild.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
I burn manga scanlations on DVDs and I think my collection is about 40 Gb right now :P Practically all of it is yaoi.

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I would prolly have that much, if not for my random and impulsive BALETE!happy moments when I remove...a lot of scanlations.

[identity profile] incandescence.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Here are two chapters of it? (http://realitylapse.com/manga/bananafish.php) :o?

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
:O!! I AM DOWNLOADING AND YOU ARE FABULOUS. Even though I've read through volume 13. XD If only we had more scanlations so I could pimp them and make everyone see how shiny and plotful it is!
