boys in ties are fscking hot
In an effort to forget about the faux/quasi/demi-Hikago wank that wasn't, I stole the 100 questions fandom meme from
kasugai_gummie and
sapphira_angel. I just like to hear myself talk, don't I?
Tell us about yourself
1. Your name
Mei.
2. Your occupation
Student, fangirl.
3. Gender
Female.
4. Age
19 BUT NOT FOR LONG.So old, so old. ::sobs::
5. When is the first time you found out you are a slash fangirl/fanboy?
Oh dear lord, I'm not sure I remember. Let's see, my first fandoms were BSB, but I was a het girl then... If I remember correctly, it was Fushigi Yuugi. Oh Nuriko! (Hotohori/Nuriko! Tasuki/Nuriko! Hee.) Strangely enough, I recall some pre-fandom Sano/Kenshin (Kensano!) fangirling too.
6. Does your family know you are one?
Er, well. They know I fangirl. They were aware, at one point, that I wrote "gay angel porn" (it's a long story), but I think they've endeavored to forget about it since then. Denial is a nice place.
On fics
7. Do you still remember which fic converted you?
Not at all, but I still remember the very first GW fic I read. It was 1x2 and involved Duo kissing random males, musing on their different tastes (apparently Treize tasted like roses but left a sour aftertaste?), before finally settling on Heero. Er, I did like a lot of Tayla Firedancer's stuff. There was some CLAMP-filled Newlyweds fic I was fond of...
8. List all your favourite fics
...how long do you have? I have 865 fics memoried on this journal.
9. Which is your favourite fic now?
Erm. Right now it is either 104.5° (Ouran) by
factorielle, or Quality of Mercy (Harry Potter) by
mistful.
10. Why do you write slash fics?
Because they're strangely easier for me to write than het fics? Or maybe they just interest me more, because they tend to be non-canon and therefore fun to explore while staying in character. Also, hot boys. Interesting characters. Different relationship dynamics than boy/girl?
11. Have you written original fics before?
Yep.
12. What do you think of your original fics?
They're all crap. I can't think of a single one I really like off the top of my head. I really should spend more time on original fics. More time writing, really...
13. What do your friends think of your original fics?
Er, they think they're all right? I don't write so much as to have a lot of feedback on them, and I haven't written originals in ages.
14. Do you write chaptered fics or one-shots better?
One-shots, for real. A Little Stress Relief (Fruits Basket) left me with an awful taste in my mouth regarding multi-chaptered fic, but the truth is that I wish I could write chaptered fic well. Another thing to work on! (Maybe I should try my hand on Nanowrimo this year. Oh, that's funny.)
15. Why?
I have a short attention span, I think. And am terrible at plotting things out long enough to make chaptered fic tie together.
16. What is the greatest obstacle you faced when you write original fics?
Keeping them from being utterly cliche and preteen-fantasy-come-to-life? Or emo-self-narrated-YA-fiction, yech. Oh, and writing them at all.
17. Will you follow canon when you write fanfics?
I try.
18. Do you like tragedies or comedies?
Comedies. They leave me happier. :D I avoid tragic fics because I get so involved in them and they hurt so much and I just can't stop thinking about them for ages afterwards... (This is the reason I still haven't read "A Beautiful World" by cinnamon, despite it being a classic H/D fic.)
19. Can you accept crack fics?
Yes! I love them a lot, as long as the humor is not entirely stupid or sophomoric, and the characters are at least somewhat recognizeable through personality.
20. Can you accept original characters?
What
kasugai_gummie said: when they're foils and not spotlight hogs. (OCs can be very awesome when not Mary Sues.)
21. Do you like fluff?
Sure, but not overwhelmingly.
22. Why?
I like the WAFFy feeling. :) I like cuteness. It's a good picker-upper. But too much of it feels gratuitous or OOC or, well, all the same.
On fanart
23. Besides writing, do you draw?
Well, I doodle a lot.
24. What do you think of your drawings?
They're messy and sketchy and rarely done with effort?
25. Have you bought doujinshis before?
Nope. I download them though! :Dv
26. Do you have any slash artists or writers you like?
Oh yes. I will note that you did not ask for specifics, so haha loophole! (I will be such a good lawyer, really!)
27. Have you produced your own doujinshi before?
Well, I attempted a manga once. Original. But the answer to this question is a resounding "no", so let's move on.
28. What is the estimated time to the completion of your next doujinshi?
Never.
29. Who is your favourite slash comic artist?
Honami Yukine, Yamane Ayano, Tateno Makoto, Takaaki Kusaka, Minase Masara. Among others. :">
30. Who is your favourite slash author?
I've actually read quite a bit of published slash, but I don't think I've yet stumbled across a favorite author. I do very much like Ellen Kushner (Swordspoint), Lynn Flewelling (Nightrunner series), and W.A. Hoffman (Brethren).
On writing
31. Have you thought of submitting your original fics for publication?
Yes, but then I reread my work and laugh. Try harder, Mei. (Though one of my short stories won me first prize in 11th grade and some money. It was quasi-published in a local literary magazine. I wish I could do that again.I could use the money.)
32. What is the emotion/feeling you most want to convey through your writing?
That would depend on the scene, wouldn't it? Whatever, I just want it to be clear. Sometimes I think I'm being clever and subtle and then I realize that it's so damned subtle that no one else has picked up on it. :D;;
33. How do you cope with a writer's block?
I whine and read fic. Which doesn't really help, I'll have you know. Sometimes rewatching/reading canon helps, though.
34. What do you normally do when you are not writing?
Reading, watching random videos/movies, sleeping, trying to study for LSATs, pretending to have a social life...
35. Do you have a fic journal?
chineseink
36. How many times have you thought of abandoning your fic journal?
Never!
37. What irritates you most when you are writing?
Oh definitely what
sapphira_angel said about trying to write a character smarter than I am. I fear for writing serious Death Note fic for that reason. Also Greenwood fic. (Shinobu, you are way too crazy smart and devious.) Some other things that annoy me: transitions, descriptions (that is: not forgetting to actually write some in), having some sort of overarching theme or central point, and smut. Not because it's embarrassing, actually, but because it's tedious to make original or hot. :(
38. What makes you happy when you are writing?
A well-turned phrase. ♥ Snappy, believable dialogue. Finishing!
39. When do you feel the urge to write?
At the most inconvenient times.
On pairings
40. List all the pairings you like
Ahaha. And that's an incomplete list, I'll have you know.
41. Why?
Why do I like them? Because I like the characters, the dynamics, the fics, the prettiness, the very idea? There are a variety of reasons.
42. Which is the pairing you like most now?
...erm. Well, I've been totally immersed in HP for the past few weeks (OotP! DH! *\o/*) so we'll go with Harry/Draco.
43. Why?
Rivalslash! Making Slytherins/Draco a sympathetic (but believable and in-character) character! Overcoming the obstacles of canon to get them together! HOT SEX. I mean, really. Also because this pairing gets some very, very talented authors and artists. They make it even harder to resist.
44. When is the first time you wrote a slash fic?
::squints:: Let's see...my first fic was Marmalade Boy... OH MY GOD, I think my first slash fic was Vertigo (H/D). That was in May 2003.
45. What is the average time per day you spend thinking about this pairing?
Currently, a couple hours or so at night when I am all in the mood for some p0rn before bed. Hee. I spend the day being productive or reading my actual books.
46. What are you thinking of when you are writing them?
...I try not to write them because I am not that great at it. That's mostly what I think: "I think I am writing them OOC. D:"
47. Are there any writers you like because of this pairing?
:D :D :D
mistful,
silentauror,
jennavere,
marksykins,
emmagrant01,
furiosity,
mirabellawotr, etc.
48. Why do you like this writer?
This is a dumb question because in the previous one you asked for multiple authors. But anyway, I like them because they write awesome fic for H/D. DUH.
49. Which is the pairing you cannot accept?
There was a time when I would've said TezuRyo, but thankfully that day is past. There are plenty of pairings that don't float my boat, but there's nothing I "cannot accept". I just ignore and move on with my life.
50. What will you do if you are forced to write a pairing you dislike?
Um, grumble and write it anyway? It's a good learning experience, I guess. I've written TezuRyo (unforced, even!).
51. Do you think your favourite pairing is the One True Pairing?
Not really. I toss around the term "OTP" pretty loosely, but it mostly means the pairing I like best to read/fangirl for in said fandom. But that doesn't restrict me from liking a bunch of other pairings in the same fandom, including ones that would split up said OTP.
52. Who is the uke in this pairing?
I assume we're back to H/D. Um, I really don't care either way. Most of the fics I've read have bottom!Draco, but the other way is also nice sometimes.
53. Why?
Didn't I just say I don't really care?
54. If you can, what would you like to tell the seme?
Harry, I think you are cute with your glasses. :D You don't need to get contacts/magical eye correction to be attractive.
Alternatively, to Draco: I may like you better in fanon than in canon, but I love you always regardless.
55. If you can, what would you like to tell the uke?
See above question. ;)
56. Why do the two of them attract each other?
Can't I just direct you to the Harry/Draco ship manifesto? Why, I think I can. And will.
57. Is their love the "forbidden love"?
It might be something vaguely like that if it happens during their Hogwarts years. I don't know. Whatever floats your kink boat.
58. Will they ever have a happy ending?
Many a fic has proven they can! :D I love fic.
59. If they are going to have a sad ending, what will it be like?
Death! Azkaban! Breaking up, cheating, hatred, family feuds. The list could go on.
60. If they are going to have a happy ending, what will it be like?
Erm, go find a fic. They tell it better than I ever could.
61. Describe the personality of the seme
I've already established it could be either. Thus I will ignore this question and the next and save myself time. Hah!
62. Describe the personality of the uke
--
63. What is the hardest part to write for this pairing?
Keeping them in character and also together. IDK I DON'T WRITE FOR THEM. :(
64. Why?
Because people do it better than I and I am happy that way. Let me read fic, okay?! It takes so much less effort and is ultimately very satisfying, kthx.
65. Which are your favourite scenes of this pairing in canon?
"Harry, however, had never been less interested in Quidditch; he was rapidly becoming obsessed with Draco Malfoy." --HBP
Um, also the "I'll have you!" by Draco at the end of OotP.
And Harry finding Draco crying and feeling guilt over Sectumsempra in HBP.
Also, though this is mostly irrelevant because it has very little to do with Harry, I adore Inquisitorial Squad!Draco. Hee. Power to abuse.
66. Which are your favourite quotes from this pairing in canon?
I reiterate the first quote in the above question. :D I can't recall any dialogue they exchanged atm however.
67. What would you most like to do with this pairing?
Continue reading awesome fic for it! Have Maya finish "Quality of Mercy" and "Drop Dead Gorgeous". Please don't die in DH, Draco!
68. Have you shipped a pairing after reading an excellent fic?
Hoo boy. 1x2, SasuNaru, Sanosuke/Kenshin, Tasuki/Nuriko, Yukimura/Sanada, FujiRyo, ShishiTori...these fandoms I all came to through fic first (before canon), or were pairings unconsidered in canon until I found them in fandom.
69. Have you thought of creating a pairing?
Uh. Does my Karupin/Fuji/Ryoma OT3 count? :D What about Nanjiroh/Sumire/Tezuka?
70. What would you most like to tell the canon author?
Of what? PoT? I'd like to tell Konomi to fuck off stringing Hyoutei along just to make them lose. >:( If we're going back to H/D, I'd like to tell JKR "Thanks for writing this awesome series." Oh, I still have plenty of criticisms of it and it's definitely not any literary masterpiece, but I enjoy the canon and adore the fandom (even all the batshit insane wank that comes with it, haha). I'm glad she wrote it and that it's become this huge phenomenon that I can take part in. It's fun!
On smut
71. What is the first thing you think of when you see "NC-17"?
SMUT.
72. Have you written p0rn before?
Yes. HAHA, rest of flist. Or something. XD Or maybe just the Extended Family, minus the wifey. ♥ Mostly for Ouran, actually. Some for PoT. Um, and a couple of scattered R-rated fics. I don't remember.
73. Why do you write them?
...'cause I want to? Well, at first I wanted to try my hand at them to expand my writing horizons. Then I needed to write more to improve. Now, I-- I don't know. I wrote p0rn on demand. Occasionally. (This reminds me that I want to do a p0rn meme on
chineseink, but later.)
74. Do you think they are easy or difficult to write?
It was so, so hard at first. (Har har, pun.) It was painful to look at the screen to see what I was typing. It got better after that! I think I'm desensitized from all the smut I read (manga and fic alike). Still, though smut is easier now than it used to be, it's still not "easy", per se.
75. Why?
Trying to make it both fresh (i.e., not terribly cliché and the same as every other generic smutfic) and hot is not easy. Details matter, but not so many that the scene is bogged down! Description and action must be balanced! Diction really matters! alksjflAUGH. Oh, and let's not forget keeping the characters in-character. Your smut may get an A on hotness, but the scene is not overall A material if I can sub in random names for your characters and still have the scene work.
76. Do you like reading smut fics?
LOLZ. Yeah, I do. It is calming for the mind. XD I do, of course, prefer it well-written.
77. Do you like smut fanart?
It has to look pretty damn good for me to care. <--what Sapphy said.
78. Do you still remember the most hard core smut comic you have seen?
Hmm, it was probably either by Takakura Row or Sadahara Mika. Can't recall titles, though.
79. Were you shocked when you saw it?
Somewhat, though I'd become pretty desensitized by then. They probably helped that along even more...
80. Do you have any special preferences? (Threesomes etc.)
I don't have any really "kinky" kinks, but there are some guaranteed turn-ons for me. :D Men in suits. Oh shit. Ties. Uniforms. Manly looking men, broad shoulders, finger-licking, suggestive looks and leers. Goddamn. Frottage and handjobs are a hell of a lot hotter than actual finger/dick-up-your-ass (I really wanted to put "arse"; dear God, HP fandom, what have you done to me?) sex sometimes too.
81. What is the most unacceptable thing in smut fics?
Hm. Purple prose, I guess. And I'm really not fond of "ahhh" and "ohhhh" being typed out as dialogue in the fic. Just keep in the narrative, okay? (My standards go way lower with manga. I don't even wince much at the Glaring Lack Of Lube™ anymore, or the Uke Tears and Protests™. It all comes part and parcel with the genre. Not to say I love it, but I tolerate it well enough.)
82. Where do your knowledge of smut come from?
The internet! Other people's smutfic. :D
83. Can you accept seme and uke changing roles?
Yes.
84. Have you seen real person slash films?
Yup. Quite a number of them. Most are terribly depressing and will never make it on my favorite films list. Formula 17 was refreshingly funny, and probably my favorite of the bunch, but...okay, I just don't think slash films will ever become favorites of mine. Slashy movies, on the other hand, win my life. Ocean's 11 anyone?
85. What are your thoughts?
On slash films? Too depressing, overall, and too specialized of a subgenre to be really enjoyable.
86. Which is the most exaggerated smut scene you have seen?
I'm sure I've blocked it out of my mind and I'm happier this way.
87. Can you accept p0rn without plot?
Absolutely.
Miscellaneous
88. Has the fact that you are a slash fangirl/fanboy brought you any trouble?
Um. Yes. It's the reason I flocked this journal two years ago. Like I said, it's a long story. It's also one of the primary reasons my youth group pastor hates me (it's okay, it's mutual). :D "Gay angel porn" anyone?
89. What would you be doing now if you have never known about slash?
Like Sapphy said, being in the fandoms I'm in (and which I would've been interested in regardless of the slash factor), it would be imposible not to know by now. I would probably be ficcing het or be less involved with LJ. I would surely not have met all of you. :'(
90. Where do you think you can find like-minded people?
Uh, the internet. LJ comms. You know.
91. Have you read slash fics in other languages?
I think I've tried in Chinese. It was somewhat of a dismal failure.
92. If yes, describe what is the difference between them and the fics in English
Well, terminology, obviously. That's the only thing I really noticed, being mostly a failure reading fic in Chinese.
93. Which is the website you often hang out at?
LJ. Facebook (though I try to avoid it, I do). Gmail, hotmail, journalfen (f_w amuses me, I'm sorry!).
94. List your favourite slash communities
yaoi_daily,
yshare...though I haven't been in ages, aarinfantasy is quite shiny as well.
95. Will you draft your fics on paper first or write it on the computer straight away?
Nothing gives me writer's block faster now than a blank sheet of notebook paper. :( Computer.
96. What is the craziest thing you have done as a slash fangirl/fanboy?
I dunno, have sketchy conversations in public? Jokingly slash two guy friends without their knowledge (dude, they were petting each other's legs and hair; we had some basis!)? Write a short story with homoerotic, incestuous undertones, submit it to my 11th grade teacher who submitted it to a literay contest and won me first place? :Db
97. Will you continue writing?
I will try.
98. What is one thing you would like to say to your readers?
Erm. How many of you know Komatta Toki ni wa Hoshi no Kike? I kind of want to fic for it.
99. What is one thing you would like to say to yourself?
Stop whining and start writing again!
100. Any more comments?
The last time I filled out a survey this long was for the FujiRyo 100Q thing. SAD DAYS OF NOSTALGIA OH GOD. ;_;
Okay, I'm better. ♥
Saw Order of the Phoenix again today and still liked it lots. Excited about the book release (SIX DAYS) and, um, anyone who wants to talk me about the K-drama Goong is more than welcome to. ♥ But be warned: I'm only on episode 21 AND IF YOU SPOIL THE ENDING FOR ME I WILL KILL YOU. Other than that, please flail with me because, eeee, I love it so much!

(This reminds me that I want to do a p0rn meme on
The last time I filled out a survey this long was for the FujiRyo 100Q thing. SAD DAYS OF NOSTALGIA OH GOD. ;_;
Other than that, please flail with me because, eeee, I love it so much!

alksjdlf god, I am so in love with Yul, the cousin. He is definitely my favorite. But I would never want him with Chae-kyang, because she and her prince are Meant To Be and so cute and in love. ♥♥
::flail:: Sorry, I am clearly way too excited.

Aside from that, a resounding YES to Komatta fic, and uhm... yeah. I wish I could drag you along into my fandoms...!! I miss spazzing at you about Ouran/TeniPuri/Death Note/etc.

Oh Komatta. I have a mini-rant about this I will probably post in my other journal. Not about the series, though, because I love it to tiny little bits.
...I am such failure at kpop/jpop fandoms, I'm sorry! D: I do hear Super Junior released a new single Happiness! I saw the PV. Very very cute and totally non male. XD My only music love is Big Bang now and I'm not in the fandom. I just stare at them when they perform or put their music on repeat. ♥
I miss fangirling with you too though. Are you going to be reading DH? :O
no subject
Mini-rant? What for? Or rather, what about?
Hahahaha, I, uhm, actually sort of fell out of Super Junior fandom a couple weeks [a month maybe? ._.;] back. But wow, they have a new single?? God, I'm behind...
Mainly, I've been obsessed with this... Chinese singing competition/show. It's like American Idol, but for guys only, and two of the guys [my icon for reference ♥] are really cute and dorky and totally in love. Actually, that applies to most of the contestants I think. But anyway. My favorite made it into the top two, so I'm really excited.
The sad part of it all is it ends this Friday, so I'm trying to figure out what to do with my life. Back to HP, probably, since that's when DH comes out, and yaaay, Potterverse.

Oh Chinese fandoms! Talk to me about them! :D I know nothing. And I wish your favorite two (aww cute and in love as far as I can tell from le icon) much luck! ♥
Oh HP7. Kind of the end of
the worldan era. But I'm still SO EXCITED. Haven't yet gotten nostalgic except a little bit reading this (http://monochromal.livejournal.com/70619.html).no subject
alksdjflaskfj. WELL. Where to begin? So basically, my favorite guy is 苏醒 (http://datalib.ent.qq.com/star/4016/index.shtml) and he is cute and dorky (http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/F21F6S1qxOg/) and I love him. He likes to wear pink (http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/1qxxsr3lhUA/), is a bit of a cam-whore, speaks really good engrish (http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/fupBc0RZHjw/), and is very (http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/Mlg7k0QvH8E/) very (http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/yK62p8Q3u5s/) good (http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/1oUzLtAAFX0/) at (http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/SIR3bpWoZN8/) singing (http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/A-SI4dilqZg/). I frequently slash him with 魏晨 (http://datalib.ent.qq.com/star/4021/index.shtml) [pairing name = Wei Chen x Su Xing = WeiSu!] for they are very much in love (http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/7lUkuV0AjYQ/). REALLY (http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/1064/weisuxp8.jpg) in love. They also play dumb games, are really sarcastic [... 苏醒 mostly], and act /really/ dorky together, but I'll show you more of that when I get home and have access to my Favorites' folders. \:D/
Sadly, the competition's coming to an end tomorrow. :( But I'm getting all of their CD with all their new singles, so I guess I'll manage. ♥
I'm excited too~ I'm getting my wristband today after work~~ Oh, HP. I have a feeling that I'll cry when I finish DH. :(

GAH. OKay, thanks to your answer to #10 and Gummie's expected reaction to my answer to #72 I think I *have* to do this meme. Le sigh. XD You and me need to phone-pseudo-meta about #10 after I write my answer. :D
12. What do you think of your original fics?
They're all crap.
BULL. SHIT.
*COUGH*
(I will be such a good lawyer, really!)
Every time you mention this, wifey, it breaks my fucking brain.
Though one of my short stories won me first prize in 11th grade and some money.
YOU'RE A PAID FICTION WRITER!! ZOMG!
Erm, go find a fic.
Ahahaha Mei I would call you a lazy answerer but you actually coded your meme. And mine might end up being "*handwavy* I've got some fics over thar thataways...."
Uh. Does my Karupin/Fuji/Ryoma OT3 count? :D What about Nanjiroh/Sumire/Tezuka?
Oh wifey.
"Gay angel porn" anyone?
REALLY FSKING HOT GAY ANGEL PORN.
