Happy birthday, Sungmin~! ♥
This is my STAR KING REC POST:
Star King is a Korean television show kind of like America's Got Talent--it showcases random people with random talents, often kids or groups. It's ten times funnier than the US version because the Korean audiences react and Korean television has a tendency of bringing celebrities onto the show to serve as audience and to interact with competitors. Super Junior, for example. It makes for some hilarious moments, if only to watch the celebrities' reactions to these talents. Oh, there's another way it differs from America's Got Talent--most of the people on the show? Have talent. They don't make the audition cut otherwise, unlike in the US where you get weird old men doing yoga or weird ladies trying to talk to birds. Star King is one of the best shows in Korea because I can watch it without having to understand much Korean at all, wahaha. Also, it's hosted by Kang Ho Dong, whom I love, because he is incredibly funny and also host to Yashimmanman, another of my favorite shows.
This show is pretty much Made of Awesome. Korean audiences have the best reactions. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO WATCH THIS.

reaction: This is gold. Star King is amazing in its own right, but add SuJu in and I'm extra happy. Oh god, I love watching them interact with the performers and Siwon's facial expressions ahaha. And Kangin, who keeps talking and talking, and Leeteuk's laugh. Oh Teukie. ♥ It made Part 3/7 my favorite (the girl in black is the same girl from Super Junior Adonis Camp; if you trawl back through the comments, there are explanations of what's going on). This episode features the most amazing sandpainter ever and some...weird kids. I don't love the kids, but SuJu makes up for everything. Cute Sungmin playing guitar! Donghae doing magic tricks! Heechul's sand painting story alksfjldkjls (see comments for translation). Oh God, I love these boys like crazy.

Er, it helps if you've heard these other singers, otherwise you may be slightly less amazed. XD

The best part is this clip which features Kangin's own brand of sexy dancing, and Brian's too. I love it.

It's amazing in a cover-your-eyes-and-hoping-fervently-that-no-one-dies kind of way. :D

reaction: This was the "season finale" where all the best acts in the past year were called back to the show to compete. Charice Pempengco is here and continues to be utterly awe-inspiring with her voice. Man, she is freaking famous for a reason. (I didn't rec the clip with her singing and dueting with Kyuhyun because I think everyone's watched it. If not, uh, here is her wowing the crowd [this is also the clip that got her famous and onto E! and the Ellen DeGeneres show], and here is her singing "A Whole New World" with Kyuhyun.) Tell Me!boy is back with an Ivy song and a cute SNSD bit that the SNSD girls dance along to. Performers are paired off in this show so they do collaborations or "battles" and it's pretty awesome all around. Then, at the end, they crown the King of Kings--the winner of it all!

I've recced her other EunHae fics before and this one continues in the same vein of being exquisitely written and completely heartrending. I'm broken all over this fic, but it is amazing and you all need to read it. It is so fucking tragic, oh God. (And yet it doesn't ping any Pretentious Angst vibes for me, I wonder why?)

reaction: Subtle, clean writing of a very typical day, as the title suggests. It's short but it captures a lot, I think, but I could just be totally biased for Teuk, who knows at this point? The ending was perfect and sweet and I know my bias is coming through there but, hey, it's still a wonderful piece of writing. *G*

summary: "You can call them tomorrow, you know. I'm sure they'll be proud."
reaction: ...I teared up a lot during this fic because this shows the bonds of friendship that I envy and love so much in SuJu, but especially between my two favorite members. I get a lot of the hyung/dongsaeng relationship in this and even umma/son, because Teukie takes care of his babies. He can't help it. And it's established fact that Donghae is homesick a lot and loves and misses his family a lot, so this fic really--hit me where it hurt. (Hi, I'm Mei, I have family-baggage.) This is painful but in a very good way. Oh SuJu, be together forever for each other and be happy, okay? ♥

summary: With the harsh training and various activities, the Super Junior apartments were more of a pressure cooker than an actual home.
reaction: Everything I said above, only replace Teukie with Kangin. He's a bully, yeah, and sometimes a total asshole. But none of that detracts from the fact that he cares. Just. I love Kangin so much and this fic shows some of how totally amazing I find him. There are also some really good lines about the Super Junior family and dynamic, which I think really pin down reality. Plus, more Hae. Everyone loves Hae. This is not nearly as heartbreaking as the previous because it has a really cute and sweet (and Hae-appropriate) ending, hee. But it's still just as touching.

reaction: Hi, this broke my heart. I cried buckets at this fic. Omfg, Donghae. Just. Oh my God. She took a terrible concept and made it a wonderful, wonderful writing. I've recced her other EunHae fics before and this one continues in the same vein of being exquisitely written and completely heartrending. I'm broken all over this fic, but it is amazing and you all need to read it. It is so fucking tragic, oh God. (And yet it doesn't ping any Pretentious Angst vibes for me, I wonder why?)

reaction: Subtle, clean writing of a very typical day, as the title suggests. It's short but it captures a lot, I think, but I could just be totally biased for Teuk, who knows at this point? The ending was perfect and sweet and I know my bias is coming through there but, hey, it's still a wonderful piece of writing. *G*

reaction: ...I teared up a lot during this fic because this shows the bonds of friendship that I envy and love so much in SuJu, but especially between my two favorite members. I get a lot of the hyung/dongsaeng relationship in this and even umma/son, because Teukie takes care of his babies. He can't help it. And it's established fact that Donghae is homesick a lot and loves and misses his family a lot, so this fic really--hit me where it hurt. (Hi, I'm Mei, I have family-baggage.) This is painful but in a very good way. Oh SuJu, be together forever for each other and be happy, okay? ♥

summary: With the harsh training and various activities, the Super Junior apartments were more of a pressure cooker than an actual home.
reaction: Everything I said above, only replace Teukie with Kangin. He's a bully, yeah, and sometimes a total asshole. But none of that detracts from the fact that he cares. Just. I love Kangin so much and this fic shows some of how totally amazing I find him. There are also some really good lines about the Super Junior family and dynamic, which I think really pin down reality. Plus, more Hae. Everyone loves Hae. This is not nearly as heartbreaking as the previous because it has a really cute and sweet (and Hae-appropriate) ending, hee. But it's still just as touching.
