SJ(M) fic rec post 1/2
I declare a study break! And also because if I don't start clearing these off, I'm going to have another 100 fics to rec and then I will actually die. Anyway, here are 25 SuJu fic recs. I will have another 25 (or more, because I will undoubtedly read more before I get around to making the next post, dammit) up soonish. Then there's the ridiculous number of Youtube links I want to pimp, ugh. Fangirling, why so much effort?!

reaction: I wouldn't say this is a terribly polished fic--some of the transitions are a little off or disconnected, and the ending is...not quite an ending. But these are mostly a series of unrelated scenes that depict leader's interactions with various members, shows how he matters to them and how they matter to him. I am such a sap for Teukie, we all know this, okay? So of course I am fond of this fic. (Plus there is TEUKCHUL. *\o/* And the last scene--ShiTeuk?--SO CUTE AHAHA.)

reaction: I've always wanted someone to fic SuJu's reactions to the prank in EHB8 and this little drabble is beautifully, painfully poignant. It's worse for me because it's from leader-sshi's perspective, so everything hurts twice as much. Despite the not-quite-hopeful ending to this piece, I still believe things can be all right. SJ might not last forever, but the friendships will never die. They'll never regret those years together.

Everyone loves Donghae (or should, dammit). Heechul and Kyuhyun and priceless in here, and all the little details Kendra writes in are just pure gold. Fabulously funny.

reaction: I'm torn between laughing and awwing. This is incredibly sweet and cute and I love the idea of SuJu loving Sujuman because I'm sure they do. The use of Beijing fried rice was amazing and I just, ugh, heartmark all over this fic. It's precious.

I have two favorites and they're (surprise?) the last two. ♥ Both of them make me tear up a little, for the emotion behind them.

Zhou Mi's evil!sexgod characterization slays me, as does the ninja!ShiHan and the not-touching of Henry. This is just--asldkfjdl. The concept is amazing. The writing is amazing. And did I mention it was hot? It's so hot your brain will leak out of your ears as you stare helplessly at the screen. I love SuJu fandom sometimes, oh yes I do~

reaction: Set after the Going to Sleep part of Super Show ep18, where Teuk fails massively at making his bandmates go to sleep, hah. This is pre/post-smut, tragically, but it's so cute and it's TeukHae and it's for me--!! Everyone is adorable, Kibum is amazing, and I just, ugh, love this fic a lot.

reaction: Honestly, it's not the first of these types of fics I've read in SuJu fandom alone (much less every other fandom). You know how it goes (the title gives it away, really): drunken night that everyone is waking up from, discovering themselves in awkward situations with people they didn't expect, and left confused about the inexplicable state of their clothes/hair/what-have-you. But this fic does it well, regardless, and it is funny. That's all I ever want from these fics. Heechul is awesome, Kangin is angry, Siwon is at a total loss, and Kibum is an orange juice thief. :D This fic is pricelessly entertaining.

reaction: This is incredibly lovely and just the kind of fic I was craving. With everyone talking about ShiHan being the new KangTeuk, and everyone's enthusiasm (including my own) about SJM, I thought about how hard it must be for Heechul because he's such an integral part of ShiHanChul. I can see him feeling like this, reacting like this: unwillingly jealous, childish in his possessiveness (though maybe feeling bad about that), and yet still genuinely proud of Hankyung and happy for him to have this opportunity. The thing that really clicks with me is how Heechul is afraid of Hankyung forgetting his Korean, because (for Rella), that's the single thing that identifies Hankyung as Korean. (How many times has Chul said "you're Korean now" to Hannie?) So, in conclusion, read this fic. :D

reaction: This massive amount of Ryeowook love is new to me, and so I have read lots of fics involving him to make it better. :D This is sexy and lighthearted, and the ending is not entirely unexpected (I've read enough BL to know how it goes!) but full of win nonetheless.

summary: He can hardly criticize Kyuhyun for feeling uncertain about his role when he has so many qualms about his own, after all.
reaction: If you read no other fic on this rec list, read this fic. This fic is poignant, touching, painful: realistic. This fic is not pretentiously angsty or melodramatic or oh! so-full-of-sadness. But it touches on the little things that make you think about SJM and about the roles of the members, their adaptation to China, to their new group. It touches on the loneliness of not being able to understand a language, of being challenged by fans who should love you, of losing your place and not knowing where you stand anymore. I honestly thinkcoyotecolored (I should, idk, add her or stalk her or something) consistently writes some of the best fic for this fandom, in terms of prose, style, and subject. I am always overwhelmed (and a little awestruck) when I read her writing; this fic, in particular, is absolutely beautiful.

reaction: I LOVE ZHOU MI. I love all these new fics exploring his personality. ♥ I love him in here, not full of gratuitous angst but having his moments of unhappiness. I love the relationships between SJM touched upon and shown in these brief scenes. This fic is simple but lovely, and the ending, though it makes me a little sad, also makes me happy because friendship is shown as something important and of value and worth. And Ryeowook is such a cutie.

summary: Hankyung picked a hell of a day to try to study. After all, Heechul had 'plans'.
reaction: All you need to know is that Heechul's 'plans' involved sex, and Hankyung is saying no, and Heechul is Greatly Displeased. Hilarity ensues, because Heechul is an evil genius and Siwon is his willing pawn. Poor Hankyung. I love the ShiHanChul dynamic, always, but this author writes them especially well. Her bias shows and it's a good thing because it means she writes them well--and if this fic is an example of what results, all the better!

reaction: Incredibly sweet and touching and thoughtful. Only one really has a smidgen of implied-smut (lol at that one, because I fully support it). The rest are all fics that talk about dependency and trust and can be just as easily construed as platonic love as otherwise. I am partial towards the movie!verse drabbles because there are never enough movie!verse fics, but I love all of them.

Tablo is just hot and rational (sort of) and akldjfl-ing over Hyuk and it's so cute except also really hot because, yeah. This fic clearly makes me super incoherent, but it is amazing and worth the read, if only because of what Hyukkie does at the end (ahahaha).
3 Random Facts About Mei
1. I'm a compulsive list-maker. Go through my notebooks and scrap paper and you will find countless to-do lists and favorite SJ member lists (they change a lot, okay? don't judge me) and fic ideas...
2. Stationery makes me happy. It doesn't even have to be pretty Asian stationery (though those rock). I am happy with notepads and sticky notes and pencils and looseleaf paper and love color-coded, organized things. *__* Pilot Precise pens (extra-fine point, in various colors) are a little piece of heaven on earth. I hardly ever use pencils anymore (because they smear and I don't have to erase for math problems and such).
3. Most of my music is somehow fandom related. I rarely listen to the radio, so I only have a few songs that I downloaded because I genuinely wanted them for no other reasn. My music is PoT or Tenimyu related, music from favids or AMVs, or soundtracks from movies I like (History Boys, Advent Children)-- Fandom has inspired me to listen to music I wouldn't have otherwise known about or liked, such as Epik High. Maybe I'm just a sad perosn, haha.
Because SJM covered "At Least I Still Have You," I went and found the original: Sandy Lam - 至少还有你. (Also Donghae singing My Everything @ Super Show and the original version by 98 Degrees.)

With everyone talking about ShiHan being the new KangTeuk, and everyone's enthusiasm (including my own) about SJM, I thought about how hard it must be for Heechul because he's such an integral part of ShiHanChul. I can see him feeling like this, reacting like this: unwillingly jealous, childish in his possessiveness (though maybe feeling bad about that), and yet still genuinely proud of Hankyung and happy for him to have this opportunity. The thing that really clicks with me is how Heechul is afraid of Hankyung forgetting his Korean, because (for Rella), that's the single thing that identifies Hankyung as Korean. (How many times has Chul said "you're Korean now" to Hannie?) So, in conclusion, read this fic. :D

reaction: I LOVE ZHOU MI. I love all these new fics exploring his personality. ♥ I love him in here, not full of gratuitous angst but having his moments of unhappiness. I love the relationships between SJM touched upon and shown in these brief scenes. This fic is simple but lovely, and the ending, though it makes me a little sad, also makes me happy because friendship is shown as something important and of value and worth. And Ryeowook is such a cutie.

reaction: All you need to know is that Heechul's 'plans' involved sex, and Hankyung is saying no, and Heechul is Greatly Displeased. Hilarity ensues, because Heechul is an evil genius and Siwon is his willing pawn. Poor Hankyung. I love the ShiHanChul dynamic, always, but this author writes them especially well. Her bias shows and it's a good thing because it means she writes them well--and if this fic is an example of what results, all the better!

reaction: Incredibly sweet and touching and thoughtful. Only one really has a smidgen of implied-smut (lol at that one, because I fully support it). The rest are all fics that talk about dependency and trust and can be just as easily construed as platonic love as otherwise. I am partial towards the movie!verse drabbles because there are never enough movie!verse fics, but I love all of them.

reaction: Featuring blo!jobs LOL. This fic is amazing and makes me want so much more Blohyuk. *_* Hyukjae is so cute and uncertain and so very him, so full of awkward, all the time. Tablo is just hot and rational (sort of) and akldjfl-ing over Hyuk and it's so cute except also really hot because, yeah. This fic clearly makes me super incoherent, but it is amazing and worth the read, if only because of what Hyukkie does at the end (ahahaha).
3 Random Facts About Mei
1. I'm a compulsive list-maker. Go through my notebooks and scrap paper and you will find countless to-do lists and favorite SJ member lists (they change a lot, okay? don't judge me) and fic ideas...
2. Stationery makes me happy. It doesn't even have to be pretty Asian stationery (though those rock). I am happy with notepads and sticky notes and pencils and looseleaf paper and love color-coded, organized things. *__* Pilot Precise pens (extra-fine point, in various colors) are a little piece of heaven on earth. I hardly ever use pencils anymore (because they smear and I don't have to erase for math problems and such).
3. Most of my music is somehow fandom related. I rarely listen to the radio, so I only have a few songs that I downloaded because I genuinely wanted them for no other reasn. My music is PoT or Tenimyu related, music from favids or AMVs, or soundtracks from movies I like (History Boys, Advent Children)-- Fandom has inspired me to listen to music I wouldn't have otherwise known about or liked, such as Epik High. Maybe I'm just a sad perosn, haha.
Because SJM covered "At Least I Still Have You," I went and found the original: Sandy Lam - 至少还有你. (Also Donghae singing My Everything @ Super Show and the original version by 98 Degrees.)

Also, I am totally there with you on #2. I have like, a billion notebooks I'm "saving" to write in, and a pile of those bright, colourful plastic duotangs. And pens/pencils. Mmmm. I normally buy my stationary at the cute little Korean store in Chinatown now though, so everything is twice as fun (and untouchable. D:)
