SJM - Me reaction post!
TODAY WAS MY VERY LAST DAY OF CLASSES AS AN UNDERGRAD. DONE, DONE, DONE. :D 11 days until I am done with all my papers and exams of my undergraduate career (done forever), and then I graduate in 17 days. I'm excited. Too excited to start feeling nostalgic yet--give me a few days, haha.
So anyway, on fandom, I owe a reaction post to the SJM album.
Dude, I so don't even feel bad because I'd already preordered the Taiwanese edition of this album days before the leak came out. Now I am so, so glad I did. ♥ Reaction post! A few days after everyone else has already done it, haha. But I was writing essays!
Recation to Super Junior M's album 迷 (Me):
迷 (Me): I love this song. Seriously, it grows on me more and more each time I hear it. I think the lyrics are sweet (but aren't all love songs lyrics this way?) and they sound super familiar to me--I think Victor (?) of F4 once sang a song with very similar lyrics about fairy tales and colds and jackets and, you know, eternal love. I think the beat is catchy without being completely bubblegum pop and I really like everyone's voices in this too.
U: Fucking adored this song before, obviously, and still adore it. The lyrics make no sense whatsoever but they're sweet nonetheless. I freely admit that the super hot MV played a huge part in me liking this remake so much. What? I'm totally superifical and I'm okay with that, lol.
至少还有你: I adore the remake of this song so much: it's a gorgeous song and I always like ties to the older parts of my culture, the parts my parents would be more familiar with than me. It's a very touching, romantic song, in its "growing old together" way. This is one of my favorite songs off this album, because I love the way it showcases their voices (especially Ryeowook's). Also, I'm biased because it's such a famous traditional Chinese song. :)
Miracle: It's fun and happy and I like it a lot. It is super cheerful, like the original, and makes me happy when I hear it. Despite its awesomeness, it doesn't even come close to touching the original for me, though. The Korean version is such a definitive SuJu song that it's impossible not to hear all 12 voices that originally sing it whenever I think of this song. It defines "giant gay Korean boy band" for me, you know?
爱你爱你 (Love Song): Totally poppy and light; it's superficial and the very definition of upbeat, bubblegum pop. I'm not saying I don't enjoy it because I am kind of in love with this song--so cute and bouncy and utterly catchy--but...it's completely insubstantial fluff in the form of dance pop. LOL. I'm not complaining, just calling it like it is.
我抱着我 (In My Arms): The beat is different and yet so attractive in its own way; it feels very Chinese and slightly poetic to me. Reading the lyrics only enhances that feeling. It reminds me of "Missin' U" in that respect, actually. It's a catchy tune bu the song is a little sad, wistful, poetic in the way that Asian lyrics like to be, referencing moonlight and loneliness, etc.
Don't Don: I don't know how I feel about the remake. I love the original like whoa (fuck me, sexy boys are hot) and it sounds a little...weird in Chinese, but that's just because I've replayed it so many times in Korean and have placed all 13 voices. I'm leaning towards liking it (rageful rock lyrics in Chinese are loltastic to me) but it's going to take a while. I LOVE RAPPING!HAE, Jesus christ, so much--but I miss Heechul's screaming and Kibum's rapping...and the HyukChulTeuk rap part is just so strange without them. I think I would love this more if I saw a performance or MV (since that's what won me over to the original version and also the remake of U). Then again, the performance could just get weirded out more by the...lack of boys, lol. I remember watching the 10-15 Don't Don perf with only 10 of the members and going ;__; but the stage is so empty! and also asymmetrical...! This is definitely the iffiest song of the entire album for me. I loved the original too much, loved the hardcore image/concept that came with it, loved the place all 13 (+Henry) in it. I do like the idea of hardcore!Chinese song but I just wish it hadn't been a remake, especially of one that was already so defined/set in my mind.
Marry U: So much less weird for me as a remake! It'll take a little adjustment just like everything else but the lyrics are so sweet that I'm won over. I love it when they sing midtempo ballads. (And more Hae!rapping guhh. ♥) This song so mellow and sweet without being overly sappy.
我的二分之一 (Happiness): This one I can actually love without qualms. Rapping Henry kills me with laughing joy, even if the lyrics are super cheesy (你是我的充电器 lol) and cute. This song is just too happy and cheerful not to love no matter in what language. I love this one pretty unconditionally. :D Though I do have to confess that whenever I sing along to it, my instinct is to mouth the Korean lyrics. Seriously! I don't even know what they mean but the Korean lyrics come out before the Chinese ones. ::dies:: It's the same way with Miracle.
渴望 (Man in Love): This is also not a weird remake for me because I think it's as equally incomprehensible in Chinese as in Korean, lol. It has much the same feel and, with the voice alterations in both versions, I am less D: about missing members. It's catchy! And Kyuuuuu's voice is so hoooooot alkdfjldk. Damn it. Ugh fuck all their voices are really hot in this song. I agree with
dear_whimsy that the remake was sloppier than the others--it was really obvious what parts (the op/ed techno parts, English parts) were cut directly from the original, but I didn't mind the overall effect. Also, Henry continue to makes me lol, but affectionately.
这一秒: The opening made me laugh because so hardcore rock-Indian influnced-combo: but then I died because it's a really really really really hot song with hot singing and hot boys and laksjdfldk. It also feels really Chinese (pan-Asian?) to me; possibly it's the beats. I think this is my favorite of the songs I haven't heard yet (so excluding U, 至少还有你, and One), though I could be lying because 迷 (Me) is constantly growing on me, so much. OH GOD IS THAT HENRY RAPPING IN ENGLISH LOLOLOL DEAD LAUGHING SO PROUD OMG USEFUL. <3 And hardcore!violin yes pls, all the time.
One: I love this song and their voices. Period. Epic Olympic song #50833 ftw! It's gorgeous, both with lyrics and the vocals and the violin. Oh the violin always makes me so happy; classical instruments just slay me like that. (I'm torn between loving this or 至少还有你 best of all their songs--clearly I am biased in favor of power ballads. But I love being able to understand the lyrics and tell their voices apart, okay?)
Overall reaction: I confess that I am much more excited about the original songs (that ZM helped write lyrics too, aww) than the remakes (except of 至少还有你 b/c that was Chinese originally too haha). It's going to take a lot of listening to get used to hearing familiar songs in Chinese with different voices, but I think I'll be fine. Hopefully those multiple listens will help me discern more lyrics, too! (Thank god for fans who've already transcribed and translated everything--I plan on referencing those a lot.) But I really adore the original ballads the most because it really showcases all their singing abilities and their Chinese!
In conclusion, I'm glad I bought a copy, I am so proud of these boys, and I WANT MVs. *___* (And all of you should buy a copy too!)
Clubbing tonight (ask me if this is voluntary, hah) and then...sleep! Sleeeeep. Then I will watch Very Big Star/Superstar tomorrow and start on more final papers. My life, it's super exciting.

I did know you were in high school--some of your entries gave it away, I'm pretty sure. So I can't say I'm terribly shocked. But you are a lovely, mature high-school student. :D

Henry rapping was A++! It was so cute. :3
Clubbing: Is it voluntary? :D
(I have been drawn entirely into Suju fandom, complete with friending other fans. This is totally and entirely your fault. :|)

I have to confess most of the lyrics weren't comprehensible to me until after I read what they were supposed to be lol. But that sometimes happens to me with English too so...

Love reading your reaction. It was so... Ahhh, reminds me of my own reactions. Especially the "This moment" song.
I heard another version of the ME album will come out with some extra songs in Korean. <33
OH gawd that '你是我的充电器' made me lol and awww for a while. <3 So cute~!

I will be 21 my, like, senior year of college.
So I'll only have one year of clubbing, assuming I only do four years.
Ha.
GETTING BACK TO THAT "I AM DONE WITH UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION" THINGGGGGGGGGG.
That is, like, CRAZY insane.
I can't believe it.
Like...
I'm in shock.
Ha.
That's an incredible accomplishmenttttttttt!
I could obviously babble forever, but Meiiiii, contratulationsss!

Me is such a good summer song. I'm excited to blast it while driving around, haha *dork* And the "it's gonna be me" is so adorable and aoetwht idk it just makes me feel happy :D
While I like the original Miracle better, HEARING KYU SING IN IT MAKES ME SO SO SO HAPPY.
AND OMFG HENRY RAPPING IN ENGLISH!! Admittedly, his rapping isn't super impressive, but he wasn't ever really meant to be a rapper like Hyuk/Kibum, so I still like itttt. Also it's Henry so I pretty much love anything he does ♥ BUT. OMG THE WAY HIS RAP IN THE MIDDLE JUST GOES INTO THE VIOLIN WHE;OTAHWETO;HWAOTHAWE Seriously I spazzed out really hard and I wanted to hug him and squish his cheeks, which would be weird seeing as he's older than me (but only by a few months!)...
I was super happy with the album overall :D Now I'm going to have to listen to it enough to sing it in Chinese merely based only on how it sounds, haha. I've definitely done it before though, yeeears ago (with Jay Chou, my 8th grade love).
Also, just to continue from the last comment you left me: EPIK HIGH'S NEW ALBUM IS SO GOOD AWEHTAOWESDGFALSKG. One is basically the greatest song ever and is now my ringtone. Tablo is my role model in that I aspire to have his level of fluency in Korean/English. Also... Tablo and Tukutz both are super hot in the MV and Mithra with short hair is totally messing with my mind.
And finally: CONGRATULATIONS ON THE LAST DAY OF CLASSES!!

Hearing Kyu sing, no matter what, makes me soo happy. alksdjfl I am so in love with his voice and only falling harder. (But let me talk about my Donghae bias, lol. It's kind of terrible.)
I WANT TO MAKE ONE MY RINGTONE TOO. It will be awesome. Just. Yeahhhh. Epik High is amazing and Tablo is amazing and I should totally be writing essays and not on LJ right now so I'll get on that. Crap.
