spring fandom complaints

As I've gotten older, I've gotten more into rarepairs or just non-juggernaut pairs, and the pain is real. Going from the wealth of K/S (decades of it!) to wanting Gladio/Prompto (I like Noctis/Prompto fine, but I don't search it out) and Shance (over either Klance or Sheith) and SouMako (platonic BFF jealousy is my jam now, so I want Haru glaring at Sousuke a lot) is rough. It doesn't help that the fandoms really produce...well, what's that saying about 90% of everything being dreck? That. Oh, also JayDick! Kind of a juggernaut when paired with Clark/Bruce and Tim/Kon in a big happy Batfamily/Supes whatever, but it's all so terrible. And I think JayTim is the more popular Robinceset ship? Regardless, this is why in part I've been in fandom less recently.

Mostly I've been reading original ebooks and books lately, because no fandom is really holding my interest (especially with the dearth of good writing). Still working my way through m/m originals, Regency romances, Agatha Christie mysteries, and various other one-off books. I've got the last Queen's Thief book lined up to read too! Hopefully I can to that this week or next.

This past weekend was busy: exercised and spent a long night volunteering at Asia Society on Friday, then went to bed early for my packed Saturday! Kevin and I rolled out to Houston's Tranquilty Park to join the March for Our Lives down there. Met up with the Shaws, rallied, marched, chanted, and overall it felt good to participate and really inspiring to see the diverse crowds led by some amazing students/youth. We then went to Tren and Clay's house for wings and an afternoon of boardgames. Lastly, wound back near home for a little bit of bar and March Madness. Loyola Chicago! What a Cinderella team. And I am thrilled to report that Duke lost the next day, so they won't be winning a national title this year. Thank god.

Sunday, Kevin and I did brunch at Fielding's -- excellent grits and bloody Mary. And then I basically napped on the couch in front of basketball on TV because I have so much sleep deficit. I've got to nap more this week to store up for my upcoming weekend in DC! Soon I'll be back to day schedule, soon... Two weeks, give or take. I'm looking forward to it. Sunrises!

Same re fandom. I really enjoyed Star Wars and Black Panther, and while I liked reblogging photosets and reading meta on my dash, I haven't been eager to read/seek fic (or fic in general).

I can't believe your DC trip has come and gone already!
