it's too hot for all these plans

Regular updates is a difficult thing, apparently! Busy at work lately helping my supervisor interview for the open editor position (former editor got promoted to supervisor, woo) and there are a couple other positions coming open that will also need to be filled; those, thankfully, are less my responsibility. It's been interesting to help decide who to interview, and then also talk to them and gauge what kind of fit they would be with our team. I'm pretty comfortable now with my coworkers and have decent rapport with most of them, better with some than others, of course. But only one I'd really potentially consider a friend, and that's the new girl I helped train who also likes cats and reading and food. Hard to do anything together outside of work given how far away I live, but that could change when I move down to Houston proper in July.

Did I mention that? We found an apartment and leased it, will be moving from The Woodlands into the city on July 1. It's a great neighborhood close to things and Kevin and I are both excited about it even though it makes his drive long and terrible (and mine really, really easy). Really do think we'll be happier in less suburban environs though.

Otherwise in May...called my mom for Mother's Day, sent her flowers and a card as well. My dad's birthday is next Sunday so he'll get a card and call as well. Lots of volunteering with Asia Society this week (Thursday night event plus all day Saturday family event) and Kevin's birthday dinner on Wednesday night, which will be Portuguese style tapas in the city. I'm looking forward to it! This weekend we went into the city for Houston ballet in the park at an outdoor theater -- sat on a picnic blanket with friends, and had wine and snacks and really enjoyed the ballet. Live orchestral music plus beautiful/impressive twirling! It made me want to see ballet in the theater, so we got tickets for Swan Lake in June, just a week after we're watching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with the live symphony. Our culture is mixed with nerdiness.

Less in touch with fandoms and reading because life has been so busy with work and planning travel and balancing cooking and exercising and sleeping enough, but I'm slightly hopeful about some books I've got lined up. Still watching Worth It food eps, CCS Clear Card, and now I think I'll get back into Elementary season 6. (Fresh Off the Boat also got renewed, yay!) At some point I've got to get my hands on A Wrinkle in Time if only for hot bearded dad Chris Pine.

we're going through a few recruitment exercises at the moment; unfortunately it does look like we'll also lose some staff who weren't successful (they still have jobs, just elsewhere). how many people work for your org?

good luck moving!! i hope it goes well and the place suits the both of you :)
