This post and its comments make me teary.

monavoir sums it up for me, I think: "You have to learn to speak the language of the person you love, so that they can feel your love... otherwise, you don't really love them all that much, do you?"

Also, hah, this is my dad too:

My dad used to say "I love you" fairly often, but what came out of his mouth was almost always "Is your car running OK?"
