sunny sunny sunny stole my heart ♥

Zhou Mi got a solo during the Manila SS2. Oh god, bb, I'm so so happy because you totally deserve this. His voice is outrageously gorgeous, okay, and I wish the fans knew how to shut the fuck up when people sing because, dude, common courtesy? And also entitlement because I wish I could get a clear rip of the song but a-freaking-las.

Barbecue out on this gorgeous Saturday with my friends - yummy hot dogs and burgers and then German chocolate cake! It's usually too rich for me but oh I do like the coconut~ I am sad when people don't like coconut. Apparently it's a more common dislike than I realized; how tragic.

I'm making a list of books I want to read over the summer so under the cut is a list (it might look familiar to some of you) - please do suggest books you've really enjoyed! I'm open to reading almost anything and, as you'll see, my list spans classic lit to just-for-fun fantasy novels or, hell, even trashy romances. They are kind of really fun.

Brideshead Revisted by Evelyn Waugh
Chalice by Robin McKinley
The Demon's Covenant by Sarah Rees Brennan
Emma by Jane Austen
The Grand Tour by Patricia Wrede
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
A Song of Ice and Fire series (4) George R. R. Martin
The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
The White Road by Lynn Flewelling

Actually I'm curious for people to name some of their favorite classics... Since those tend to be difficult to read and enjoy (after being forced on us in school), so any classics that people really loved have got to stand out.

I, for instance, really enjoyed (surprisingly) Crime & Punishment and Dracula and I adore Pride & Prejudice and To Kill a Mockingbird. /hand-waving to encompass all the opinions she has on all the other books she's read but has no energy to talk about

Or recs for children's books! I could go on and on about children's lit: they remain to date some of my favorite, favorite books. Winnie-the-Pooh, Paddington, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Artemis Fowl, Wrede's Enchanted Forest series, Gormon's Macdonald Hall series, The Giving Tree, CALVIN & HOBBES, CALVIN & HOBBES, CALVIN & HOBBES--

So yeah. Here's a clip (among SO MANY) of Sunny being wretchedly adorable. :3

Thank you, thank you to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] tabitempo and [livejournal.com profile] vowel for their v-gifts. Bother me on MSN/AIM to catch up and for me to pile love on you, yes?

YAY, TiKAM!!!! I loved doing that as a text :3 Um, 5 years ago but who's counting anyways...

I actually quite enjoyed Great Expectations. it's funny in a you-have-to-put-on-your-Dickens-cap first way.

moar classics: THE LORD OF THE RINGS, ufufufufufufu

also stoppard is always good. ALWAYS. GOOD. (he's the dude who wrote the history boys.)

children's fiction: have you read the phantom tollbooth? it is one of my absolute favourites EVAR.

other children's books I have read and love...enid blyton's entire oeuvre XDDD

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-04-11 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes I have read The Phantom Tollbooth and yes I love it too! :D It was also very educational, heh.

And Stoppard! He wrote Arcadia, which I really enjoyed. Oooh and I have not actually read The History Boys, only watched it, so I should get on that.

Yes, yes, I know your eternal love for LotR. :D

He really, really is. *___* And so talented.

I like actual coconut stuff - shredded coconut, yay! Stuff in desserts, yay! But artificially flavored coconut stuff, not so much.

[identity profile] goldengutgirl.livejournal.com 2010-04-11 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
I WAS THERE GIRLLLLL I was there 4 freaking meters away from him while he was singing and I was just staring omfg. It's so beautiful and the way the lights were setup--ugh heaven. AND DONGHAE OMFG I HELD HIS HAND---NO, HE TOOK MY HAND--FOR 10 SECONDS. IDEK.

SS2 is the best thing ever. ;____;

I have a like a concise and biased fan account that's not really a fan account because I can't really think straight, at least in the next few days. lol

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-04-11 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Waahh, awesome. *___* Oh man you lucky girl - SJ, Donghae, omg, how you are not flailing in all caps right now is amazing. ♥

I hope you had the night of your life! They really go all out for concerts and it's so, so awesome to see them have such a great time and do so much for their fans. ♥ This crazy stupid band, iltsm.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-04-11 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW. Like, I'm so so grateful for the opportunity to see them in Seoul in a fairly small arena with, lol, all 12 of them - BUT I DIDN'T GET TO SEE SUPER GIRL OR HENRY AND MIMI COMING OUT FOR BOWS OR MIMI'S SOLOOOO. /fangirl whining

But seriously I am so so happy for him: he deserves to be recognized for his amazing talent. ♥

Also I really love the fancams of Chu~ :3

My favorite classic is The Count of Monte Cristo!

And if you've never gotten around to reading it, Watership Down is an epic must.

As far as children's books: THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-04-11 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh I've always meant to read that; I should put that on my list for sure. :D

Yes, have read Watership Down. I don't remember much of it though, ahaha. And The Wind in the Willows, I meant to read that too! Obviously there is a lot of stuff I've always meant to read, ahhh. No time ever though. :[

This makes me so many happies like you don't even know.
*also was reading through the comments* Whoever said The Count of Monte Cristo, I agree. ♥♥♥ It's a fantastic book.
Also there's Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison. Just. AMAZING.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-04-11 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Mimi loooove. :D I still wish I had a decent-quality rip of the song. ;_; Woe.

Oooh then I will definitely have to read The Count of Monte Cristo if it gets double-recced. After exams, of course. Oh school, why do you ruin my life like this?

[identity profile] danii06.livejournal.com 2010-04-12 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
My sister watched the Super Show- she came home half star-struck and half pissed off, because she hardly heard anyone singing over all the screaming fans.:( I mean I get why fans can't help screaming at times but why do they have to scream THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE FUCKING SHOW. /pet peeve (I know, I didn't really watch the show, but the sentiment stands)

Sadly, I'm one of the many people in the world who hate coconut in desserts. But then again, I'm not much of a dessert person.:P I like dishes that use coconut milk though :)

As for classics, I enjoy Edgar Allan Poe's short story anthologies. If you like history though, I highly recommend The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich by William Shirer. It's got mixed reviews from academics, but I enjoyed reading it for my World War II course in college :)

The Picture of Dorian Gray
OOOH omg I love that book. It's a bit morbid and dark and people who don't appreciate literature won't get it but I'M SURE YOU'LL ENJOY IT.

Mansfield Park
Everything by Jane Austen is actually on my suggested must-read list. I love P&P and Emma the most, I think those are her 2 best classics, but I think Mansfield Park is a close 3rd.

Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood
I'm not sure if this book is probably too high-school for you, but I thought it was such moving book. I read this and 1984 at the same time to satisfy my dystopian novels urge but the really detached way she makes the main character view reality gets me every time.

The Great Gatsby - Fitzgerald
Again, not sure if this was on your high school reading list haha, but I love it! Every time you read it, you find yourself understanding the book a little bit more, getting the symbolism that's supposed to be there :)

Wuthering Heights
I liked the love story!

And that's off the top of my head for now. I must go and cram for my French oral in... 8 hours..

[identity profile] devilzz.livejournal.com 2010-04-14 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
PLUS try short stories by Edgar Allan Poe. He's AMAZING and morbid and SO GOOD at telling stories. I heard Tell-Tale Heart in elementary school and I was fascinated by how good he is.
