suddenly near the end of April

How time flies!

Last Thursday we hosted Saudi activist Manal al-Sharif discussing her fight for women's rights, particularly the right to drive and toward ending male guardianship. I wrote up a recap of the event. She was a really interesting speaker! Definitely personalizes the news and activism to hear her story.

Tomorrow evening we do a program on mindfulness and aging, which is apparently a topic of much interest. The very next morning we're doing a breakfast program with a foreign policy expert on his new book about the rise and fall of peace on earth. That will be a lot of time spent at work consecutively. To that end I ducked out a little early today to run an errand at the downtown tax office, though I still came home and answered emails. It's going to be a busy week. Besides the program, a lot of prepping for next Tuesday's Vietnam program, which involves coordinating a National Geographic photographer who is needy as hell flying in from San Francisco, and local chef, a local food/travel writer who is honestly a saint helping us out right now, and also catering for the post-program light reception.

The past weekend as fun and social, so that was a busy lead-in to this busy week. Sarah flew in on Friday from Georgia. She ran into some flight delays, which sucked, but we still made it to dinner with Courtney and then Epik High! Concerts never start on time, it's fine. And Epik High was fucking great: so high energy, so cute, so much fun. On Saturday we took Sarah around for food and enjoyed the really nice weather at Hermann Park and showed her Chinatown too. Definitely easier living in the city than if were still out in the Woodlands!

But back to this week, where I hope to sneak in some time to read/sleep/get HH drinks with friends this week! We'll see.

For now, I'm going to go marinate some pork chops for dinner, I guess. And feed my sad cat, who acts as if he hasn't eaten in two days when it definitely hasn't even been in

Mindfulness has been pretty 'buzzy' at my workplace for a couple years. I have mixed feelings about the use in workplaces.

I would have assumed a National Geographic photographer would be slightly more used to less than stellar conditions, but alas.
