Shall I talk about my birthday? Well, it was fabulous. I had lunch with a friend, went to a book fair in the afternoon with a different friend (and bought eight books for $3.75), treated myself to a cookie, went to sushi with another group of friends (and the sushi was on fire), who bought me wine and dinner, and finished off the night with cheesecake. Low key and very relaxed, it was honestly the best birthday I've had in years. :) Lots of love from people I love, including all y'all. /kisses

And my brother, lol, who posted on my FB wall:

to which I responded: THANK YOU VERY MUCH, BROTHERRR.

He started high school this week! I think that makes me feel my age far more than any birthday could. Oh god, who is this sullen teenager who is taller than me and fanboys BoA (and is learning the steps to SHINee's Lucifer) and goes to parties on the weekend. What is this nonsense. My parents didn't allow me a social life when I was his age! But he's already gone and had a ~girlfriend~ (though they're broken up now because, hah, middle school romances). Soon my parents are going to foist the safe sex talk with him onto me, I just know it...

In less traumatizing news: darleenk even wrote me ridiculously hilarious Cronaldo/Kaká & darling papered wrote me super adorable paparazzi!Donghae stalking celeb!Kibum. And intomorning sent me The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. (And I finally got thyme_hawthorne on the phone asdklh jumps on her and eats her up.) Oh you guys, why are you like this? ♥♥♥

I think I'm officialy all settled in to my new place now because I went shopping for miscellaneous things and also groceries, so now I can feed myself and not die! And stop spending so much eating out all the time. (My ex would insert a dirty joke here, which is partly why he's an ex.)


And as for Inception, I am still flailing all over the place. (Can I just say that in the month or so I've been in this fandom, my Inception bookmarks on Delicious have now exceeded my SPN/J2 bookmarks that were accumulated over the course of five months. So. Yeah.) Also, WRITING IS SO HARD. I have three paragraphs of an angsty A/E and another three paragraphs on a plotty one, but everything except ridiculous schoompy cuddling fic is apparently uninspiring and really, really difficult to write. :( My reading to writing ratio in this fandom is honestly something like 5000:1. Sigh.

But! jibrailis is writing an amazing regency AU. *_______* It is glorious (but WIP, woe) and you can find it here. (Hers is the 2nd fill but the first one is fun too!). She also inspired me to go read some Georgette Heyer because, you know, masters of a craft, originator of an entire subgenre of novels, etc. I also have Conan Doyle & Christie in my to read queue because Sherlock re-sparked my love of mysteries. Mmm, reading.

Gosh, everyone has such smart thinky thoughts about Inception & all I've got is "OH MY GOD TOM HARDY" and "mm guns" and "mmmmmmm suits". Well, that plus nodding along vigorously at all the smart thinky thoughts other people have. And cheerleading at basically, um, everything. Here are some thinky thoughts about Eames and here are some stupidly pretty pictures of Eames & Arthur to gaze avidly at. And these are just stunning compositions, using Inception pictures a la A Softer World.

But oh HEY can I say (I just stumbled across this), that I agree so very much with deepsix's interpretation of Arthur:

I really don't think Arthur is all that uptight, straitlaced, or repressed. I mean. The first thing he does on waking up is call Nash an asshole, which doesn't really strike me as typical of a person who's reserved about what they're thinking or feeling. He's actually quite ill-mannered and rude, too: he talks with his mouth full, interrupts Cobb and Saito's conversation, talks to both Saito and Eames like they're complete morons, and I'm pretty sure the only time he even speaks to Yusuf is to yell at him. The only person he isn't a dick to is Ariadne.

As for being repressed, he is pretty clearly a complete dude when it comes to real emotions (see: total ignorance of/lack of interest in Cobb's mangled mental state), but he does attempt (however awkwardly) to comfort Ariadne after Mal stabs her, so he can't be entirely oblivious to or uncaring about the emotional welfare of those around him. Also, notice how he's the only one who sees any mouth-to-mouth action? Even Cobb doesn't get to make out with his lady, and they're married.

My conclusion: Arthur = not so much uptight as he is actually just an asshole. A really controlling one.

SO MUCH YES, YOU GUYS. I got it - I no longer need to meta in this fandom when I can just point and link other people's. :D


Another fandom that leaves me feeling dumb and shallow? Football. But slightly less so! Because now I do care about Liverpool beyond just my gigantic crushes on Torres & Gerrard. Neither of them played today's game against Trabzonspor, but I still watched and was far too invested. JFC Liverpool, learn to keep possession. Though they manageed a much better second half and came back from trailing 1-0 the entire game to score 2 goals in the last ten minutes for a final score of 1-2. \o/ So hurrah, they qualify for the Europa League. (Shush, United fans; do not harsh my squee.)

Lastly, randomly, I did my nails!

They are dark purple with tiny glitter and random flowers. I don't know. This whole nail thing is new to me, and the dark colors are even newer. Usually I stick with pale pinks and corals and, you know, the Spanish flag.



Idk, doing my nails is hard. ;-; I will keep experimenting!

That is pretty much everything germane to Arthur's character, in those six words, I think, hahaha. The picking. The salad. The angry. It makes me laugh so much, I mean, Arthur, why are you like this! I am now imagining an Arthur who takes his moods out on his food or someone who is horribly picky with his food. Eames tries to take him out on a date and Arthur doesn't eat this, that, or the other! (People who are picky about a lot of food make me so sad because there is so much deliciousness they are missing out on! ;__;)

askdghf I don't know what I want from fandom, Ifrit: I want everything. I want lots of AUs and clichéd romantic plot devices and lots and lots and LOTS OF HOT UST/PORN.

Hahaha, to be fair to him, though, that was right after Cobb was like, Saito I will take this job, I love my children! and Arthur was like INCEPTION IS IMPOSSSSSIBLE FFFFFU----- so he was in a bad mood! ...worse mood than usual! Anyway, I agree so much about food, like people who avoid fish because they don't like the way it looks...!

Oh, Mei, me too, me too. But we are getting so much of it, and at a much faster pace than in other fandoms, we are blessed. ♥ (Don't look at me!)

you don't actually need to watch 500 days of summer to follow this, though there are some hints of it there. as long as you understand that the story doesn't go in order, it's a very inception (though slightly au) fic

OH GOD THIS IS ME EXACTLY. I am sort of flailing around in capslocky glee all like OMG BOYS IN SUITS and YAY PORN, then I stop to breathe and see all of this really smart meta that people are coming up with. I agree that Arthur isn't as uptight or as repressed as fandom makes him out to be, though I will confess to a personal fondness for writing uptight characters who come undone, ahaha, so my fics probably skew that way. Also, I don't mind Arthur being an asshole to Eames. I enjoy it even. But I don't think I would really enjoy a fic where he's an asshole to the other members of the team, especially someone like Yusuf who doesn't seem to have a reason to ever offend Arthur.

I don't think Arthur is really an asshole to most people; just the ones he thinks are incompetent. Thus: Nash and Eames. Though why he genuinely thinks Eames is stupid (as discussed in that meta post) is beyond me. I really want fic where his opinion of Eames changed after the Fischer job and he owns up to it (AND THERE IS MAKING OUT, of course).

I mean, this dude sprawls like a sirius black in his deck chairs. he randomly (okay, pretty assholishly) kisses ariadne and tosses off completely cliched lines while she's like o____O? and smirking in an insufferably smug and self-satisfied way. he looks great in a suit, yeah, but he was also in that really ugly outfit in the first level. /end rant.
