today we talk about food

Today for breakfast I made an egg in a basket! It was delicious. I may have to break out the toaster in the future for toast to go with my amazing peanut butter w/ honey. Or I could just save that PB&H for my apple, hmm. I like fruit. Yesterday during my grocery trip, I bought plums and cherries. I am very excited about them!

For lunch, I made a quick and dirty noodle meal (okay, not dirty, but very basic-staple-of-Chinese food, with stir-fried tomato and egg) with a cucumber salad on the side. I always feel so immensely accomplished when I cook for myself, probably because I feel like it's healthier and oh infinitely cheaper.

Though I had a delicious 10 oz ribeye steak last night (medium, with side of sweet potato and green beans) paired with sweet tea. Unnnnnghh so good, okay. My inner carnivore was craving steak for the longest time, and it was well worth how heavy the meal was. It was also a belated birthday dinner (apparently, as I discovered when the bill came) because my two guy friends refused my money and treated me. Mmmm free steak. I could get used to this.

Now for dinner I am contemplating doing a stir-fry of tomato, eggplant, and pork to go with rice or mapo tofu with ground beef, also which would go with rice (I adhere to my heritage & upbringing, what can I say). I will I ponder this some more, sleepily. Hello, unexpected afternoon nap.

Here are 2 random non-food thoughts for you for the day:

(1) whenever I see "Duke Ellington" I always end up thinking of the Duke of Wellington and his defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo. Perhaps I have, um, read too many regency romances in my past. Do not judge me!

(2) [livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2 is trying to coax or con me into writing her an Arthur/Eames AU based off this music video, wherein Arthur would be a bank teller and Eames the armed robber. And then they dance. How does this even work? :| We will see how long I can resist her wiles.

Also, hello, people who have friended me recently! I have decided just now to sign up for formspring, so you can ask me any assortment of random questions here (and link me to yours!). In return, I have a question. What is going on in this picture, Tom Hardy???

[identity profile] starflower135.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
yay for cooking for yourself :D glad it turned out successfully :)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not going to be the next Top Chef, but I am less annoying hahaha and at least I kept myself fed. :3

[identity profile] starflower135.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
and that's all it matters :D you should make seaweed soup, with egg and tofu, really easy to make and if you add misu it gives the soup a really nice taste

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
sadly I currently lack both seaweed and miso. I will eventually need to make a trip to the Asian market!

[identity profile] starflower135.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
yes you should :) will you be on gchat later tonight?

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
can be! not right now, must eat and wake up fully, but later.

[identity profile] starflower135.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
ah, I see :) take your time, talk to you soon ^^

[identity profile] svz-insanity.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I DO THE SAME THING WITH DUKE ELLINGTON. *high-fives you*

Ohh, egg in a basket sounds lovely! And don't you love it when friends surprise you by treating? :)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha nice. Go us indeed! 8D

Probably it should be my birthday more often. ;) I could get used to free stuff! mmmm but I am jealous of all the amazing food you will be having in HK!

[identity profile] 2naonh3-cl2.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I repeat, I will write my genderfuck AU if you will write the dancing bank teller AU. And, I kid you not, I spent the entirety of my walk today contemplating how Eames would go about obsessing over Arthur's stockings...I might have already picked out pretty dresses/dress suits and fuck me heels for Arthur to wear for each scene. There was also a significant amount of time debating full length stockings versus thigh-highs with a garter belt and the logistics of how a thigh holster would work with either. Research on the type of gun that could fit seamlessly under a fitted skirt has, also, begun.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I take it back; I've read genderfuck in this fandom but it's usually been Eames as a woman because, well, he can forge. And I totally have this thing for Arthur being good with women alskdghjf. Unf.

But hmmmmmmm girl!Arthur & Eames, hmmm. :3

[identity profile] 2naonh3-cl2.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
JFC, I'm actually writing it. Writing the AU. PLEASE!

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
OKAY I WILL WORK ON IT DURING THE WEEKEND I GUESS.

[identity profile] 2naonh3-cl2.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
YAY! Also, 500 words...and I haven't even gotten to the stockings. EAMES YOU MOTHER FUCKER! FOCUS!

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha too easily distracted, yes?

ughh no writing tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

[identity profile] 2naonh3-cl2.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, not so much that, as he wanted to prove that he wasn't just interested in the stockings. :p Apparently, he doesn't want just the smut. :/ Not sure how I feel about it.

haha gosh I have no idea how Chinese cookbooks work 8D Everything I know how to cook has been learned from my parents or from experimenting, adjusting to taste, etc.

but oh yes, eggs in soup is one of the most common things we do. 8D you should try it sometime! It definitely cooks.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohh that make sense. Well, if it helps, the most basic ingredients I must always have on hand when cooking at school (this is not even comparing to how much stuff my parents have at home haha): soy sauce, black vinegar, wine, salt, pepper, sugar, seasame oil, garlic, ginger. And of course: RICE. And I like spicy food so I try to keep some chili sauce on hand.

[identity profile] weatherfront.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, you have a Formspring! Aren't those fun!

This entry... is porn, isn't it. It kept building up and building up, and when you said "mapo tofu", I came.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
ahaha I thought I'd give it a shot. I babble about my life at random but now I can direct that babble a little more?

I make a mean mapo tofu, negl. ;) You may need a room.

[identity profile] weatherfront.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Are you... are you serious... are you the significant other of my dreams? Mei, we could just... live like this for the rest of our lives, talk about clothes and food and hot guys doing it with each other. Marry me.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh Ifrit, it sounds like domestic bliss. *___*

I am taking forever to answer this comment, I don't even know. I am watching Say Yes to the Dress and it is strangely addicting. I have so many opinions about weddings/dress selection/etc now but I'm not sure what the point when I'm still, oh, years and years from a wedding. Not even my friends are getting married yet!

So I'm sitting here reading all about your delicious foods while I'm eating a Snickers bar for dinner at 10:30 at night. Your dinner >>>>> my dinner.

Arthur would be a bank teller and Eames the armed robber. And then they dance.

I DON'T CARE HOW IT WORKS I THINK IT SOUNDS AMAZING.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
OH NO, ONLY A SNICKERS BAR? )): I want to feed you; if only they invent a way to teleport food through the internet. Or just teleport in general. It would make moving so much easier.

I AM GOING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE IT WORK, SORT OF, THIS WEEKEND.
ext_58945: (inception arthur)

[identity profile] cherrybina.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I also had one frosted cherry poptart and a handful of goldfish crackers D: IT IS SO HORRIBLE I KNOW.

And dude, CALL ME when you get that teleportation (wtf Firefox, teleportation is a real word) thing figured out. My life will be fantastic.

I AM GOING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE IT WORK

YESSS \o/

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Wow my coherency goes down even more when I'm watching TV and trying to reply to comments, haha. Apologies.

I may be drunk while I figure it out. Clearly that is the way to write. But don't worry, however I make it work, it will end in making out! :D

[identity profile] jibrailis.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
*whimpers at this entire post*

I haven't had good mapo tofu in what, it must be years. And stir fry eggs with tomatoes is my ultimate comfort food. It's the one dish I can be counted upon to make reliably without burning the house down, and I can eat it until the end of the universe. *melts into a puddle at the very thought*

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, what do you eat? D: I make egg and tomato so frequently just because it is so easy and fast haha. I would feed you if someone invented teleportation via internet!

I LIKE THIS FOOD-ORIENTED POST.

^________^V

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I LIKE HOW EXTREMELY EXCITED YOU ARE BY THIS. Have you eaten them? You should make them! They are very easy to make. :D

[identity profile] papered.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
LOLOL. NO I HAVEN'T! SO DO YOU JUST. MAKE A HOLE IN YOUR WAFFLE/BREAD/THING AND THEN MAKE AN EGG IN THE HOLE? IS THAT HOW IT WORKS? ALSO DO YOU FLAVOUR THE EGG? OR THE BREAD? OR BOTH??? YOU SHOULD EDUCATE ME ON THESE IMPORTANT MATTERS.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Take a piece of bread, butter both sides! Make a hole in your bread, and fry it on low to medium heat. When one side is lightly browned, flip it over and then crack the egg in the whole. Let that cook for a bit. Then you can season w/ salt & pepper or whatever else, flip it again to make sure the egg is cooked on the other side too. AND THEN YOU ARE DONE.

[identity profile] papered.livejournal.com 2010-08-28 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
wails that sounds so good. WE ARE BREADLESS THOUGH, hm. AND BUTTERLESS, I THINK. I WILL TAKE A LOOK NEXT TIME I AM AT THE SUPERMARKET HEHEHE.
