US OPEN CHAMPION 2010: RAFAEL NADAL

Oh my god oh my god, you guys. Watching sports is the bane of my fucking life - it has made me so unproductive tonight. I only scheduled out my late afternoon to watch the US Open men's final but because of the rain delay...turns out my entire night is gone to staring at my TV and feeling at turns happy and conflicted about Nadal and Djokovic. I love them both. So much. But Rafa is my number one. But Nole fought so hard and did so well against break points and set points and pulling himself up from behind. His forehand is amazing. He pulled off some amazing shots. But-- Rafa. Rafa. He has pushed himelf to improve so much since just last year. His serve! Do you guys see his serve? This man is incredible; he definitely deserves being number one in the world.

I cannot lie: I've wanted Rafa to win since the beginning. I'm almost sorry it was a Nadal vs. Djokovic final because if Nadal had been playing Federer, I could have whole-heartedly cheered for total destruction. But I am not really sorry because NOLE. ♥ And Nole defeating Federer?

Means after this tournament, he moves to number two in the world. I am filled with joy, okay. JOY. MY TWO FAVORITES WHO HAVE FOUGHT BITTERLY TO IMPROVE THEIR GAME AND PUSHED THEMSELVES TO TOP IN THE WORLD.

The final: Nadal wins, 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-2. His first US Open. The first time since 1969 a man has won 3 grand slams in one year. Rafa's career grand slam, collecting wins at all four major tournaments! At 24. God. ♥♥♥ Felicidades, Rafa! So so happy for you. (Summer of Spain, seriously; they have won so many major sporting events this year.)

OKAY, SORRY, BEST MOMENT IS DEFINTIELY THE UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL HUG BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM AFTER. STANDING OVATION FOR BOTH, OKAY? THEIR SPEECHES WERE BOTH RIDICULOUS HUMBLE AND SWEET AND THEY ARE SO RESPECTFUL OF EACH OTHER AND OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU, HUG MORE, ALL THE TIME. /BEAMING

Now for less happy sports news: I miss the Birmingham v. Liverpool match on Sunday to go apple-picking and I find out they drew 0-0? What is this. LIVERPOOL, SUCK LESS, HOW WILL YOU EVEN QUALIFY FOR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LIKE THIS?

Ugh, sports make me so fucking unproductive. I am going to go spend money I shouldn't on dresses (because I have no willpower, none at all - and you will get pics, maybe, when they arrive) and then...eat my late dinner...and then do work. Yes. It will happpen, I swear to god Tom Hardy.

I hope this shit gets uploaded to Youtube eventually because oh my god you have to hear their speeches. ;____; OH NOLE, SO CLASSY, SO NICE. OH RAFA, OH RFA!! They respect each other so much and askdhfdjg Rafa is totally all grinning and crying ahhhhhhhhhhhh--

Rafa is a sweetheart to the bone, I don't doubt it! (But I'm sorry if I really get off on the thought of Nole being bitter, bitter, bitter somewhere deep down inside when he is alone, as he clutches his ailing heart and slouches down in his chair and tilts his head back and looks up at the sky, why is the sky so high, and how high does it go anyway, when it seems like all he has to do is reach out if he wants to touch it-- why am I writing tennis RPF on your journal.)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
haha omg Nole is totally bitter but who can blame him! He has come really far in the past few years, but it's just never quite far enough, and I'm sure it grates - but I think that's what makes me respect how classy he can be during the post-game interview/ceremony speech even more. (Though hahaha it must burn in his soul when Rafa compliments him.)

(write tennis RPF in my journal as long as it is not Federer/Nadal RPF OH GOD)

Hahaha, I won't, I love Nole too much (and resent Federer too much) to let anything like that happen! Oh, my god, we are such angry Federer haters, haha.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Whatever, I can respect him while resenting him at the same time!

...maybe. WHATEVER LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT HIM, LET'S TALK ABOUT HOW AWESOME RAFA AND NOLE ARE. And how deserving of cuddles!

Most of my friends irl support Rafa! One or two respect him but adore Federer. We do not watch tennis matches together. There is too much trashtalking, hahaha.

I adore Djokovic, I do, he has always been my favorite after Nadal, so the match-up both thrilled me (YAY THEY ARE BOTH IN THE FINAL) and made me sad (AHH I CAN'T CHEER WHEN NOLE SCREWS UP, I CAN'T CHEER WHEN RAFA SCREWS UP). Really though, I am just super happy that they both played so well and are now #1 and #2 in the world. :D

UGH YES, LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT THEIR AGES. Rafa is barely older than I am too, ugh.

At least you are in the Champions League. /bitter oh so bitter

OH LIVERPOOL, WHY DO I LOVE YOU?? It is a conflicted relationship, to be sure.

A number of reasons, I guess: It's a little more complicated when you're not born into it, haha. The friend who introduced me to football is a Liverpool fan and so I just got exposed to more of the team. I adore Torres and Gerrard and since watching the team play, I've discovered fondness for Carra and Skrtl and Agger and Kuyt. Plus I love how dedicated the Liverpool fans are. Really, the team ended up picking me? With some outside influencing factors haha. ♥

So I was totally lurking like a lurking lurker looking at Inception stuff, but I could not NOT comment on this because I FEEL YOU, MAN. I love them both so much, and THAT HUG. Rafa in general is a great post-match hugger, and especially when he plays European players I notice a lot of back-of-the-neck touching during the hug and it makes me SO HAPPY. He is incredibly humble and sweet toward everyone he plays.

They are both just SO GREAT. And Nole is like the only tennis player who fucking smiles during matches and it makes me want to be his best friend.

I AM SO HAPPY YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY. ♥ I love them both and they both played so well and I LOVE WHEN THEY OBVIOUSLY RESPECT EACH OTHER. Oh tennis, it is exciting and fun, unlike following club football which just causes me stress and despair...
