it has been A Week!
What a week it has been! The first session of our summer policy camp for high schoolers took place this week, on U.S.-China Relations. It was a little nerve-wracking and we had to deal with a few last minute curveballs, but overall it went well! I feel good about it, I think the students got a lot out of it, our speakers were happy, the consulate visit was nice, etc. I'm pleased and my supervisor said I did well, which is always encouraging to hear. I feel a lot better going into the next two sessions, which will have their own unique challenges -- Middle East because I'll be missing two helpers (my supervisor and our summer intern, though in her stead I'll have a weeklong volunteer), and Energy & Security because it is the week directly following Middle East, meaning I have less prep time to transition.
Nevertheless, looking forward to those. Will be debriefing and reflecting on Monday about what went well and where we can improve. Didn't get to rest much because immediately following the Friday final presentations, reception, and student interviews (I left "early" at 3:30 that day, but only after a full 8 hour workday, having come in at 7:30...), it was all-day AsiaFest time on Saturday.
Yesterday was crazy! Packed with volunteers, vendors, performers, and guests. It was overwhelming in the middle of trying to pull off this seven-hour festival, but upon reflection really fun. I'm glad I get to do things like that for work and get to bring enjoyment to people in the community together.
Kevin going to St. Louis to visit family/friends for a week while I hang out with the cat and recover from this week and enjoy the holiday/a long weekend. I'm determined to take this Sunday to read two books and not cook or anything that isn't relaxing.
