Bahamas pics + 2010 Fic Meme
Back from my sunny holiday vacation! The Bahamas were warm and beautiful and unreal. The boat was less exciting, especially when rough weather made me seasick. But fruity drinks were drunk and pictures were taken and overall a good time was had. :) Hope everyone else had a lovely Christmas too!
Now I come bearing a few pictures and a fic meme!
These are random selections, all out of order. D:

(3) Nassau, Bahamas (yes the water is that seriously unreal teal color even in real life)
(4) me & my brother for the formal dinner on the cruise ship
(5) Some mango-peach drink with an umbrella!

(7) Early morning in Freeport, Bahamas
In conclusion: good lord the weather and beaches and everything in the Bahamas were absolutely beautiful. But if you want to visit? Get on a plane and spend the time on the islands, rather than waste time on a ship, because you run out of things to do on the ship... And when you hit rough weather? Ugh. I never get carsick or airsick, but hi, Sunday was spent in misery while watching movies and popping seasickness pills. Fly, I say, fly! And hit up some non-touristy places too, because they are less picturesque but just as fascinating. (And a hell of a lot cheaper.)
This year I basically quit writing, as my word count should more or less reflect. I guess I was still writing during the first half the year (see all the kpop), but oh man did the fall semester do a number on me.

Let's not even joke - for something so short in a year where I did not write all that much, I love it a lot. A large part of that is just how much I love Hikaru no Go as a whole and how many nostalgic happy feelings are tied to this pairing (my writing of it in the past and so on). I don't think this is the besst thing I've written, no, but it makes me happy. I will always love these two and this series. (They're not even my OTP - Shindou/Touya has that honor, of course - but the canon treats them so well that I expend a little extra fondness for fandom putting together Kaga and Tsutsui. Yes, extra-canonical exploration of possibilities. ♥)
Best Fic: Dream a Little Dream of Me (Inception, Arthur/Eames, PG, 2135w)
Technically, this fic by far, because of having actually put effort and research into it, with betaing and reworking and everything! Thank you,![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
delocalised and intomorning. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, hazy and dreamy and surprising. Not my favorite fic because of an assortment of emotional hooks and needs and qualifiers and things, but definitely one I'm pretty pleased with.
Most Popular Fic: The Truth Behind the Bonamana MV (SJ, bandfic, PG, 2335w)
Always the cracky bandfic, you guys, always. No way to go wrong. ;) Silly and short but fun, which I guess goes a long way. Runner ups were Cuddleslut and Comfort and Joy in Inception fandom, but that has more to do with the fact that Inception fandom is huge (and fond of cuddling). I was actually pretty surprised SJ fic managed to beat it out.
Most Underappreciated Fic: Want You Right Now, Darling (Inception, Arthur/Eames, PG, 3310w)
I don't know. It's a ridiculous premise, but one that totally amuses me and, I thought, most of fandom. I don't know! What's not to like about people inexplicably finding themselves in love/lust with Eames and Arthur being left puzzled at the strange phenomenon? Whatever, it was fun to write. It got much longer than I initially planned, but the fun ones tend to, don't they?
Most Fun Fic: Vanilla is the World's Most Popular Flavor (SJ, KiHae, others, R, 5085w)
Speaking of fun fics that grow out of control, this one. Did not a tall expect it to break 5k! But KiHae and Donghae being silly and gratuitous Jessica and Minho - man, I love writing KiHae sometimes. When it's not too deep and I'm not taking things too serious, OTP fic that is fun to write is basically the best thing ever. Indulgent fic for the win!
Sexiest Fic: The Power Games We Play (SJ, CinHae, Heechul/everyone, NC-17, 1620w)
Yeah, no competition because I pretty much quit writing smut this year. D: This was pretty porny though, before I gave it up. CinHae! Not quite in love, but loving each other and making out = my favorite. :D
Fic that Shifted My Own Perceptions of the Characters: All in the Family (SME, Onew/Jessica, Minho/Donghae, Han Geng/Victoria, PG, 3080w)
I wrote an intra-SME het pairing that wasn't HaeSica! In fact, I wrote two, ohoho. I have basically been in love with the idea of HaeSica for such a long time that it was strange to write them apart, buthoyah mentioned offhandedly that she wanted to see some Onew/Jessica so I thought I'd give something new a shot. It was pretty interesting to write a Jessica who'd been in love with Donghae in the past but had moved on. I guess it helped me stop cling so hard to the HaeSica OTP too. People grow and change, other sage wisdoms, etc.
Fic I'm Most Proud of: all bets are off (it's a sure thing) (SJ, ShiHan, HanChul, PG, 2860w)
Why? Because I got HanChul OTPers being on ShiHan's side for a change! Poor Siwon, I do not mean to treat him so badly. I do not mean to write such angsty ShiHan either, since it's a pairing I like, even though I am, er, somewhat biased towards HanChul. ShiHanChul is always the answer! Also, I'm always impressed with myself whenever I manage to write anything that isn't ridiculous crack or fluff or gratuitous making out. Hints of angst and deep thoughts? I am so impressed with myself. (All right, is it obvious that I am being a bit facetious about the whole writing process since I haven't written anything in ages?)
Biggest Disappointment: Never Knew Anything But Loving You (SHINee/SJ, Minho/Donghae, PG-13, 6335 w, WIP)
I love this pairing and this fic and this premise and I am so disappointed that I've lost all momentum to finish this. :( I'm sorry, you guys. Every year this spot will go to my unfinished fics. I have got to learn that I suck at multi-part things and never post anything unless it's 100% complete.
Biggest Surprise: Beyond the Door (There's Peace) (SJ, KiHae, Donghae/OFC, PG-13, 2030w)
I knew I wanted to write Donghae birthday fic, even after momstly dropping out of SJ fandom, but I didn't expect it to take on this nostalgic, bittersweet tone. I did not expect it to be futurefic quite like this! I like it though. It felt fitting for where I was emotionally with kpop.
Hardest Fic to Write: Dream a Little Dream of Me (Inception, Arthur/Eames, PG, 2135w)
I struggled with this premise (Arthur/Eames version of the Zoe/JGL dancing-in-the-bank MV) so hard. I had a paragraph or two that refused to become more for the longest time. Finally, it occured to me that I didn't have to tell this story in a linear fashion. And that was evidently the spark I needed to sort out the rest of the story, which fell into place structurally (though I still needed hand-holding and betaing on the content). I guess this is why I'm pretty proud of this fic - because it was awful and hard before I finally managed to work through it and produce something I'm actually happy with.
Fic I Want Remembered: unraveling with every word (SJ, QMi, PG-13, 10,845w)
Longfic. Qmi. AU. Yeah, I love them and I would love other people who love them to also remember this one. ♥
Goals for Next Year:
Um. I have very few writing goals for the next year because I feel so utterly disinclined to write. I lost the passion this year - and the saddest thing about it is that I don't feel sad. I don't feel the panicky pressure to change that, to push myself to write something. I guess it would be nice if I wrote at all next year. Low standards are the way to go for now.

Dream a Little Dream of me is amazing, Mei. I don't think I have ever expressed properly my deep and abiding love for that fic. It is one of my very favourites in the fandom and I go back to it again and again when I need to be reminded of how to write well.

And hit up some non-touristy places too, because they are less picturesque but just as fascinating. (And a hell of a lot cheaper.)
This is, coincidentally, the same conclusion I came to while on the Carnival Legend last week! Except I was mostly okay with being on the ship the whole time, because I had eight cousins with me and we spent all our time playing card games anyway. (We would have been fine staying in the hotel for a week, I think.)
This year I basically quit writing, as my word count should more or less reflect.
I look at your list of fic and think wow, that is like eight times how much I've written this year.

Ahhhhhh well, I suppose I did write earlier, but I quit writing in the fall, so...yes... It just feels like I haven't written in forever? Idk, last year my word count was something like 177K so this year is quite a dramatic fall. Oh well, we shall see what 2011 brings for both of us!

Sad as it is that you are not feeling so great about writing lately, of course it is most important that you do what makes you happy! It shouldn't feel like an obligation, ever, and maybe you'll drift back to it someday but I think it's good that you don't push yourself to. Fics or fandom or otherwise, I am glad that I got to know you in 2010 ♥
