I remember watching the MV for the first time and going, holy shit, Daesung. Sexy, grown-up image! They've really branched out from the original hiphop concept both musically and fashion-wise. I love Daesung pwning the vocals in all the lives; hell, I love how they pretty much always pwn their lives because they have strong singers and strong rappers both. Plus with GD involved in basically all of their songs, they get songs that cater to and showcase their individual and combined strengths. Really liking GD & TOP's little intro rap here. So catchy!

I love this song A LOT. I also really, really dig this performance because everyone looks so good, unf. All black with black leather jackets in different colored piping? I'm all over that. For all that BB can have these crazy pscyhadelic outfits, sometimes they really know how to work it simply. Loving that GD's color is pink and the pink hat askdjflk so good, honey, so good. The bit where the back-up dancers hold the mics is a little awkward but kind of a cool concept; I really like audience-interaction bit that is so BB: When I say somebody, you say to love. Hell yeah.

It's pretty much impossible to go wrong with a black-and-red color scheme; smoking hot goodbye stage. I love the little showcases of the member solos at the beginning - part of what's so great about BB is that they all have individual activities and promos which are all successful, but they can still come together and produce awesome shit. I love this song, love it love it; my brother sings it in the shower a lot, lol.

★ Stupid Liar

THIS SONG IS SO CATCHY. And the lyrics are cute too; it's basically a guy who's hurt by his girlfriend and is now sulking about it. I HATE GIRLS, THEY'RE ALL LIARS. I feel like we've kind of all been there, with the positions flipped. Boys are stupid! But these boys, at least, perform a really catchy song and aslkdf mmm this performance of them in all black is so nice, so nice. Look at how hot TOP looks. Hell, when does he not look hot?

★ 집에 가지마 (Don't Go Home)
MV | 2011.01.30 @ SBS Inkigayo

So this song's been banned repeatedly in Korea because of the lyrics, which basically tell a girl (the fiancée!) not to go home, to stay over, and that first-time sex is imminent. Oh, saucy indeed. The performances are always super cute; look at the set! The clothes! The whole little storyline! I'm so unused to seeing GD with dark hair but he looks like a cutie-pie, doesn't he? Super young though, haha. And call me a shipper, but it pretty much looks like TOP is there to interfere with GD's courtship. :D

★ Baby Good Night
MV | 2011.01.16 @ KEJ Chocalate

The MV is a direct follow-up to Don't Go Home - GD takes his girl home, hoho, and roommate TOP is there with his. alksdjf I find this MV so sexy, okay; ridiculously ostentatious luxury, implication of sex more than outright stripping or making out (lookin' at you, Seungri and Strong Baby), and the whole idea of GD & TOP being tender and intense at their girl. Yes, yes, sometimes that is just way hotter than actually groping her. It helps that I already find them hot, this is true.

During Haru Haru promos, wherein there is a lot of awesome Daesung love and a lot of good-natured ribbing at Seungri, who is hilarious and cocky in the way all magnaes should be. Daesungie looks so gooooood, I just want to cuddle him a lot. Member rankings on random topics: Taeyang is serious and kind; GD apparently can't keep secrets at all; and TOP is hot funny and apparently doesn't really pull his hyung-status on GD and Taeyang but considers them friends. Daesung and Seungri are another matter, however... There is GDYB! GRi! And GD falling all over TOP as he laughs. Leader gets along with everyone.

★ Intimate Note (2009.02.13 & 2009.02.20)
Taeyang throws Daesung & Seungri to the wolves, i.e., this show, because they are adorably awkward. Daesung tries so hard and means so well! Seungri does too! The best part are the games, of course, after all the touching bonding bits are over with: "The Rose of Sharon Blooms" (what I think we know as Red Light, Green Light), fighting for food, partner limbo, other ridiculous things, and to round it up with some dance performances. :D There are also revelations of what each member was like back in school and some touching 'graduation' speeches. (TOP's was ;~; omg. That badass thing really is all an act; he is the biggest marshmallow inside, always so serious and thoughtful and glad that they can spend time together as a group.) Really, really, really funny. (Also, Jiyong, you really do just get along with everyone, don't you?)

★ 1 Night 2 Days (early 2010)
This is not the actual 1N2D show but Big Bang's version of it - the five of them go on a trip to bond! There are games and there is barbecue and of course, the open-your-heart honesty confessions wherein everyone gangs up on GD for making the news too much in 2009. But of course TOP has to go ruin it all by making everyone tear up by treating the topic seriously and talking about how much respect he has for GD to make it through. ;~~~~~; HE DOES THIS EVERY TIME. ALSO: BB dances to Kara's Mister a bit, Daesung sucks at foot-volleyball (a lot), and sleepyhead bedhair BB makes an appearance early in the morning. Really, really, really cute.

★ Night After Night | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 (2011.01.10)
SO FUNNY. MY FAVORITE. OMG. MY TOP 3: GD, TOP, DAESUNG. On a show with Jung Yonghwaaaaaa. /cuddles all of them. The point of this show is to actively disprove their public images: i.e., that GD is a cold and unapproachable kind of guy and that TOP is one of those posers always constantly aware of his image. lakdjf SO MUCH DEADPAN TOP HUMOR. So much giggly GD!! Hilarious, hliarious, hilarious Daesung who is just too good at variety programs iluuuuuuuu. In which TOP admits that fans call him & GD's performances "an uncle and his nephew" lololol. And also both of them are stupid hot. And adorable.

★ Come to Play (2011.04.04)
Sans Daesung, who had a scheduling conflict, which makes me :( a lot, but they did get him on the phone! Hilarious Seungri here, who tells stories of his own cockiness and you get to see GD constantly almost fall out of his chair in laughter. I love how easily GD laughs all the time. :D A lot of deadpan humor from TOP and the members are asked to rank themselves on their looks. Guess the easy #1? Hello, gorgeous. Then they move to the backrooms and joke around some more, and then the MCs read out letters each member's mother wrote to him, and there are tears, tears all around. (I've noticed GD and TOP tend to cry the most alkdjfdk babies, ilu. They're also the magnae in their families, which is probably at least partly responsible, whereas Seungri is the oldest in his.)

★ PKL Starry Night Radio (2011.04.20)
This is just a clip because I don't think the entire show was subbed, but this is a great clip: PKL (the MC), spontaneously asks Big Bang to sing a little medley of all their hit songs. She names one of their hits and they have to adlib a bit of it, live. Their expressions are the best, and when they forget the lyrics. "It's been a long time!" They are so cute ahaha so cute. (But oh god the comments: Haru Haru, the song that got me into kpop! Etc. I'm just like, Haru Haru? Dirty Cash was the song that got me into kpop, before BB's big break with Lies, and that was four and a half fucking years ago oh god I'm so old. /hobbles)

bonus! And if anyone still remembers or cares about the Wonder Girls (Ye-eeeuun, Sunye~!), Wonder Bang was a huge thing in 2007 and 2008*: they performed together to Tell Me & Lies and did a Grease performance in 2007 and got together for a Wonder Bang medley at the 2008 Gayo Daejun (Holy shit Sunmi in TOP's lap is alskdjflkds hot even if everyone shipped Yoobin/TOP back then). Still loving BB's version of So Hot.

Also, Big Bang & Epik High doing Shake It & Fan, Big Bang with adorable mini-Big Bang doing Sunset Glow, and Big Bang with Lee Moon Sae, the singer of the original Sunset Glow before Big Bang remixed it. (And he loves what they've done to it. My glee, let me show you it. G-Dragon, you are a musical genius, okay.)

* Mei's tl;dr thoughts about the whole thing: Probably BB and WG got thrown together back then because YG didn't have a frontlining girl group and JYP didn't have a guy group, while most of SM Town could just do things together (i.e., SuJu & SNSD, CSJH feat. SJ or TVXQ). Seems as though recently there has been a bigger push towards intra-group special stages (BB and 2NE1, WG and 2PM/AM) which makes sense; still, it makes me sad, because I got into them in the so-called "good ol' days" and I love me some Wonder Bang, always.



♛ Parodies

★ Coffee Prince

Big Bang is actually pretty well known for their excellent parodies, because they put a hell of a lot of effort into them - clothes, sets, character, ridiculousness, and all. They might be incrementally funnier if you've seen the drama but they are still fucking funny if you haven't. Though Coffee Prince might need a little context: a girl pretends to be a guy (for various reasons) and gets hired at a coffee shop. The owner, thinking she's a guy, starts to fall for her and eventually discovers she's a girl. HELLO, GTOP FOREVER. :D GD makes an awkwardly endearing guy pretending to be a girl pretending to be a guy. If you can parse that.

★ Beethoven Virus

TOP/RI. I don't even know if that's what it's called. :D I've never seen this drama. I don't really care.

★ Hana Yori Dango (j-drama)

They did the J-drama version, hence the Japanese names. And I'm going: LOLOLOL OMG TOP YOU ARE PARODYING MATSUJUN LOLOL. ♥ And GD is Oguri Shun/Rui! /dies. I think HanaDan is pretty famous but even if you don't know the backstory, it's not hard to follow, and yes, the main dude is a douchebag the entire time basically. Still. Daesung makes a surprisingly lovely pigtailed schoolgirl, haha.

★ Secret Garden

THE BEST ONE OF THEM ALL. I haven't watched the drama so when the bodyswap occured, I'm like, what, is this for real? Did this actually happen in the drama? Does it matter? Keep in mind that pretty much all of the scenes up 'til the bodyswap where girl!GD is not in the dance studio is actually a figment of TOP's imagination: he can't get her out of his head and he doesn't know why! Then bodyswap alksdjfldskj omg TOP, sexy lead man TOP, acting the stereotypical cute pouty Korean girl? /DIES A MILLION TIMES. Seungri is AMAZING in his OTT diva role. Daesung Daesung Daesung - should not be spoiled, but let's just say he's priceless. Also. There are two liplocks in here, TOP/Seungri and TOP/GD and they weren't faked. Oh! You get to watch the boys' reactions to the parody at the same time, which is extra hilarious. GD's so embarrassed; TOP's just kind of like, heh, yeah. It's a job. And I'm awesome. (He is.) Also: GD is unfairly, unfairly pretty as a girl.



♛ GTOP

I have a lot of ~*~FEELINGS~*~ about GTOP; you should't get me started. Suffice to say I totally believe GDYB and GRi are closer friends, but hot damn that doesn't stop me shipping GTOP like a pro.

♥ GTOP Star Date | Part 2
Do I love how many guys are in the crowd straining for a glimpse of GTOP? I so do. And the little girl, eeee. Everyone's a GTOP fan, okay? They bow so much and so low to all their fans and the staff so much, so much. GTOP are stupidly polite and sincere despite their badass attitude; I love them so much.

♥ GTOP on FM Inkigayo
I have no idea why they're being ostentatiously sickly sweet with each other like that but it's hilarious to me, to them, and to everyone. \o/

♥ Haru Haru Parody
I linked this a post or two back, but this is always A++ excellent humor. And hot besides. The actual song and MV is very sad but you will pretty much never be able to watch the MV (or hear the song, if you're like me) again without thinking about GTOP. Daesung & Seungri get the most excellent lines of all. :D

I considered adding the RM episodes but I thought I'd restrict it for the moment to group appearances showing off group dynamics; Night After Night being a minor exception in that it had my top 3 biases, haha. Plus, a majority! And they talk about Seungri and Taeyang...

Honestly. RM should get its own post, though I don't know if I'm up to that task. Someone on my flist has been talking of making one though. :D

omg GTOP, GTOP IS SO HOT SO HOT. Wait, I have thoughts beyond this too, I swear. I pretty much love that they're more friends than hyung-dongsaeng; even though I think GDYB are closer (9, 10 years now they've known each other?), GTOP have apparently been friends since middle school too! And GRi is adorable where GD really watches out for him/teases him and Seungri looks up to him/is comfortable enough to tease back. But I still really ship GTOP because oftentimes someone you're super BFF with is not someone you end up interested in That Way. I'm pretty much going to fixate forever on GD's admission (in above video!) that if he were a girl, he'd totally have fallen for TOP, who has that kind of charisma.

(But everyone says TOP because he's the easy answer.)

So then you get into how they both seem to really respect/admire each other (see: TOP's open-heart confession during 1N2D and Intimate Note 'graduation speech') and how they are the oldest and how they both are the babies of their families and also how they have so many ~feelings~ and CRY A LOT. And also TOP's hidden sense of humor that apparently really comes out not in front in cameras but with the group---

I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS. But probably it can be summed up that 1) GD and TOP are my favorites and I tend to ship my favorites, and 2) SO HOT. SO HOT.

Considering the fact that I ate lived, breathed and slept the 2011 promotions I can basically comment on those, the rest of the lovely candy that you provided I will have to go over like Halloween night. A little bit at a time so I can savor it all. I remember a lot of it but I have not seen it in awhile, so I will wallow in it at leisure.

Tonight- loved the whole thing - except the guitar smashing, but other than that I just sat and drank it up.

Somebody to Love - Korean version, I liked the Japanese version but this blew me away. Easily my favorite from the whole new album.

Love Song/Stupid Liar/ and I will add Baby Don't Cry were all awesome.
Mostly Love Song because of its very simplicity and they rocked that ^&*(
Daesung's voice has simply grown beautifully as he has, if not for the accident I think he could be blowing them away on Immortal Song 2.

Don't Go Home was cute, and Baby Good Night was dangerous. It was the highly suggestive answer to Don't Go Home. If she had any sense she didn't go home and well, when it was all over what was left after that spectacular seduction but the very tender Baby Good Night. The video blew me away, all the ripe fruit pulled apart and stuffed in their mouths and wet delicate long-stemmed champagne bottles that were handled with such care and snakes in bed, and the exhaustion/contentment at the end of the night while the women slept upstairs. Oh and the spiky do after he got rid of the afro made GD just that much more..and TOP's voice... Unf sexy.

Love them. Love this. Will be back to it much later after much wallowing.

keke I worked on this post for days, because BB deserves it. SONGS, PERFORMANCES, VARIETY SHOWS -- everything is fantastic and I love them so much. I'm glad there are other people to flail with!

I cringe every time GD smashes a guitar even though I get the ~artistic~ performance value in it. Part of me is always hoping it's a not-very-good one or an incredibly sturdy one he 'destroys' repeatedly. Oh well, there are sacrifices to art.

I have to admit, the two years I dropped out of paying attention to Big Bang was due mostly to their focus on Japanese promotions - my interest wanes almost completely whenever a group leaves for a different country. I pay no attention to any of the k-groups' activities in Japan and similarly I pay no attention to SJM's activities in Korea... Not that there are any, but even their promo of the Japanese version of Perfection, for instance, I just don't follow. I think I have a tough time dealing w/ covers and changing my headspace to a new language for the group, idk.

I did hear and like some of BB's Japanese songs though! Gara Gara Go, Koe wo Kikasete, etc. I just tend to love their Korean songs more, since that is how I really know them, I guess.

Stupid Liar is my song of choice at the moment. SO CATCHY. SO STUCK IN MY HEAD.

So many of GD/TOP's songs have been banned alksljfkd I went and read the lyrics and they're not that bad at all. Honestly, Korea has the strangest censors sometimes. It's kind of a pain in the ass, especially considering art is often risqué and meant to be pushing boundaries. Man, I respect GD so so so so much for his involvement in pretty much all of BB's songs. ♥♥ He's so my favorite forever.

I have maybe three, maybe four songs of theirs in Japanese. And only them, because it's them. My son describes it as them singing Japanese with a Korean accent, so it sounds off.

I...do not think I can express in words how I reacted to that fan account. the short version is: ALSKDFJDLKS EXPLODES!!! ♥♥♥!!

The long version is: Hi, holy shit, my GTOP bias has exploded off the radar. That they're so close? That they're both total mama's boys? That TOP is friendly w/ Heechul? I can't even.

And it's strange, because the club scene is not really my scene (though it's fun on occasion), but the idea of them going out to party and drink really, really, really makes me gleeful. Because fuck I hate when idols have to deal w/ ridiculous shit like contractual limits on their life - they're still young; they should go live it up while they can! Definitely not surprised about the smoking and drinking (which is, like, 90% of all Korean guys, I swear) but alksdjfkd eeeee yes, dance with girls, have sex, have a life.

Awww GD's "cold" personality. Does nothing to dispel my belief he's still an amazing person, just more cautious and reserved now. God, my favorite. TOP TOP TOP.

Actually really coming to appreciate the way BB stands out in Korean culture and how everyone can be a fan, regardless of age or social status, and how YG doesn't really try to organize an official fandom and how VIP don't really move en masse. (Could do with less stalking, obviously, but that's sort of part and parcel of being a celeb, I guess. Which makes me appreciate more that BB still seem to get the "normal" aspects like clubbing/hanging out.)

haha I don't really read kpop fic anymore! /o\ I have some old SJ stuff bookmarked but mostly my Delicious is dominated by all my other fandoms. I think for kpop I mostly consume visual instead of written media.

I kind of dream of the perfect GTOP fic in my head though. It would be hot. I dunno if anything can live up to that.

eek. i had no idea you were such a BB fan, srsly! maybe because i primarily know you as an SJ(/M) fan? oh well, shows how quick i am to judge!

oh BB :D i had a short while last year that i was in between the promoting groups and in came taeyang. i got hooked onto their old stuff- so a lot of the old shows/parodies and songs i know pretty well and love. boys are so talented!

nowadays i do listen to their new(2011) stuff but i'm not very into them, so your post is totes helpful.

i liked GDYB as a pairing because of their squishy friendship but they can be a little boring XD GTOP i have no idea how to ship; they scare me a little despite making really good team- i ♥ jibe gajima, super catchy.

BB was actually the group that got me into kpop in early 2007, so they never leave my heart. :D But I totally do talk about SJ/M more, so it's not surprisingly that's what most people associate with me with regards to kpop fandom. (Though these days it's really only SJM I care about.)

Oh BB, I kind of quit paying attention for the 2 years of solo activities/Japanese promos, but it's so easy to get back into group stuff that they've done in 2011. They are always best to me as a group, biased as I may be towards GD&TOP. It's just that they're my favorites and I really like their dynamic. :D :D :D Big Bang. ♥

Because Taeyang would not look good in drag? I dunno, I can't remember him ever being in drag, whereas everyone else has done it. (GD more frequently than the rest of them put together, I swear.)
