you're a hot mess and i'm fallin' for you

So, meh, my netbook totally died on me and I need a new one - may be holding off 'til Black Friday/Cyber Monday for that. Computer-I-never-named-because-I-suck-at-naming-electronics, I miss you! ;__;

In happier news:

★ This is an article on female friendships and the myth of BFFs that I've been reccing everywhere the past two days.

F#!@ing Female Friendships, How Do They Work?
The mythology of the BFF, sometimes Best Friends Forever, but in this context, Best Female Friend, is almost as deeply ingrained for me as the mythology of the soul mate, or the one and only romantic partner for you forever and ever until death do you part, Amen. Honestly, I don’t believe in either, but that doesn’t stop me from occasionally feeling as if I am somehow failing at Being a Lady Person 101 because I don’t have a single lady friend, or a single lady friend group, who will loan me clothes, nurse me back to health, tell me my ass looks fat in the sequined skirt I really really really am desperately in love with but maybe only because it’s marked down to ten dollars at T. J. Maxx and it’s shiny, and whose approval I require on my romantic partnerings.

★ I made a rec post! 28 fic recs for assorted fandoms. There is a lot of Puck/Kurt. It's my new thing. Shh, don't ask me questions. I have a dynamic that speaks to my id an it doesn't like questions. (Or Klaine.)

To the recs: American Idol RPS, DCU, FMA, Glee, Good Omens, HP, H50, Hikago, One Piece, QaF, Saiyuki

★ Glee cast is adorable and hilarious in interviews. Guess who's my favorite character? Because I don't actually like the characters/show... SHH, SERIOUSLY, DON'T ASK ME WHY I'M READING FIC/FANGIRLING THE CAST. Because canon is so rarely necessary to enjoy fandom, okay? (That said, I totally impressed [livejournal.com profile] thyme_hawthorne with my knowledge of canon as gleaned through reading a gazillion fics. Fandom can be awesome and educational that way, who knew?)

★ I love watching my girl groups on variety shows but man my biases are obvious. In particular (and surprising no one), Sunny and Victoriaaaaaa. No one is more flexible than she is, damn it. ♥ (Sunny, on the other hand, is queen of aegyo and...catching chickens.)

★ No Revenge or Modern Family this week. :( On the other hand, can I just have a HELL YES moment to this week's HIMYM? :')

★ I finally got my hands on some hot apple cider, mm. Food continues to make my life bearable.

I have got my eye on you and this food thing. Ever since you mentioned the sweet potato casserole, which of course has been making me think of cooking. Darnit.

hehe, last night I made apple crisp (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/apple-crisp-ii/detail.aspx) too. I tell myself I'm trying out recipes so I know what I want to do for Thanksgiving.

Good reasoning... I love anything apple related. I was bored with cooking though and it is nice to see you all excited.

Oh what a lovely recipe. That looks good. I might have to try that.

Who is the cutie in the icon?

You should! It's delicious and super easy. :')

Haha it's a random Korean baby from these photos (https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/photos-ak-ash1/v76/0/0/2718708/n2718708_33646724_3894.jpg), but seriously the cutest chubbiest-cheeked baby, ever. ♥

That is a seriously cute baby photo.

The baking will begin this weekend with a vegan banana pumpkin cake. And then maybe the apple crisp. Maybe We'll see where it goes from there.

Ooh I that sounds delicious. I am always a fan of using pumpkin in things - cookies, cakes, breads, pancakes, lattes, etc. I hope it turned out well!

That Mythology of the BFF is a good article. I actually do have a BFF, but our relationship is nothing like most portrayals of female friendships I've seen.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2011-11-12 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the media generally lacks good portrayals of female friendships that differ from the Sex and the City norm. :( It was pretty cool to see an article talk about (and celebrate) the different kinds of friendships we can have irl though!
