A collection of unconnected thoughts from the past week:

1. It's been two years since I've had borsch but it's still fucking delicious.

2. I...finally fell in love with beautiful hardcovers. Yes, years behind everyone else, probably. I've grown up always appreciating mass market paperbacks the most because they're cheap and light and made for easy reading and carrying around and, importantly for the anal retentive part of me, the same size when lined up on my bookshelf.

I hated annoying hardcovers for being heavy and bulky with dust covers that just constantly get in the way, but I guess I just never spent enough time at secondhand bookshops browsing the way they used to make hardcovers - like art pieces rather than for mass consumption with ugly dust jackets. Basically, I stared inappropriately and touched reverently in a way that would be creepy with people but is totally acceptable with books. Thankfully.

One day I will grow up and own a real house with a real library!

3. I watched the All Star Weekend 2012 and have developed a ginormous crush on Carey Price's snark. I have just decided that it's easier to assume that everyone is a terrible person and refuse to care about anyone off the ice, but if they entertain me on ice, I'm a fan. I've rewatched ASW 2011 many, many times, thanks to my Staal/Skinner/Canes love (as well as the Danny/Claude and Kaner/Tazer moments), but 2012 gave me new appreciation of so many players. In retrospect, it was a probably better that I didn't watch it until I knew enough hockey to know and care about almost all of the players because it was more fun this way. So many feelings. So many player crushes!

4. What the fuck. PARK JISUNG IS GOING TO BE ON RUNNING MAN. PARK JISUNG AND RIO FERDINAND. What the fuck. Also, obligatory "fuck Man United".

5. While I'm on the topic of Korean fandom, I only managed to catch about 10 minutes of the livestreaming Google Kpop concert last week because I forgot and also was too lazy to stay up for, but in those 10 minutes I saw f(x) (Victoriaaaaaaaaaa) and Seohyun do a solo. My thought process:

MEI: Wow, this song is really upbeat!
MEI: Wow, you're playing guitar all by yourself, Seohyun!
MEI: Aww, I bet Yonghwa is so proud stupid in love.

Apparently I tinhat them more than I knew. :D

6. I have come to the tragic conclusion that Claude Giroux and I are terribly unsuited for each other despite our shared love of grilled cheese sandwiches and chai lattes - and not just because he's, cough, already married and basic things like, you know, reality. I mean, he fucking loves bread. And I? I think bread is a fucking nuisance of empty carbs taking up space in my stomach. (Yet I love rice. BLAME THE ASIAN IN ME.) I just stopped myself from making a dirty joke here.

G is another golden delicious thing. I would keep him locked in my room if it weren't for the fact that I need him to be amazing on the ice. Can I at least have a puck bunny moment and FIND him? God. I would probably faint if I were to meet him in real life. Girl can dream I guess. In other words, Dannnnnnnny! <333333333

[identity profile] 2naonh3-cl2.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
And I told you that he 2012 all star game was good. Carey was awesome.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Wow apparently my brain is in a dirty place because it keeps making horrible innuendo filled statements to me like SEE, G IS JUST ANOTHER DELICIOUS THING THAT BREAD WOULD BE TAKING UP POINTLESS SPACE FOR.

I DON'T EVEN FEEL THAT WAY ABOUT HIM.

Okay, that's obviously a lie.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
It was excellent! Goalies are freaks! I still hate Tim Thomas!

Alfredsson was kind of wonderful though. And so many people, really. Why is it in Columbus, OH next year? :(((( WHY NOT IN DC.

[identity profile] 2naonh3-cl2.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I suspect that Carey is the weirdest of them all. Adore him but fear of home greatly. Carey was had some of the best color commentary. ESP. When he was trying. NOt to actually save any goals. Adores his craycray freak ass.

[identity profile] 2naonh3-cl2.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Well you know I do feel that way Nd my brain went there too. G!!!!!!!!!!! I don't even care that he's like 10 years out of my range of people I generally find attractive. I'd eat bread with him all day. Clearly I fail s an asian.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, yeah. Eat bread.

He was definitely the most entertaining mic'd up. ♥ Though Lundqvist chirping his fellow Rangers was pretty adorable too.

Aww player crushes on SO MANY PEOPLE.

I actually LOVE BREAD, but I now eat gluten free, which makes bread more of a pain than it's worth. I hate mushrooms, though. (I'm not just a vegan, I'm a picky vegan.)

I WATCHED RUNNING MAN WITH PARK JISUNG AND IT WAS GREAT. Srsly, I may have swooned. ;P What, Rio Ferdinand is coming on, too?? :OO I wonder why not Evra because I think he and Park are good friends (?).

Bread is delicious! I want to make some! (Haha, I want to make everything from scratch...)

[identity profile] transitorial.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I have nothing to say about hockey, sadly (except that, okay, EStall and his kid are the most adorable things to ever adorable,) so I am mostly here to make sad faces at you because HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE BREAD, SERIOUSLY, BREAD IS FUCKING AMAZING.

[identity profile] darkunicorna.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
YES HARDCOVERED BOOKS I BUY THEM ALL THE TIME EVEN THOUGH I'M SO POOR I JUST LOVE THEM OKAY I think have heart attacks then the spines of my paperbacks are cracked so I prefer hardcover but also because they are beautiful and sturdy and idk screw dust jackets they can be burned

Also omg Carey Price.

CAREY PRICE.

WHY CAN YOU TAKE A PICTURE OF THE HORSE YOUR RIDING AND TEXT IT BUT NOT CALL SOMEONE I DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND.

But yeah dude recently joined twitter and there's this one time he was tweeting his sister and I was just like WOW HE SOUNDS JUST LIKE MY SISTER RIGHT HERE??

Image

Ugh I just love sibling relationships and hockey players' twitters

Also whenever I think of Carey Price Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy) automatically starts playing in my head

SOB TRUST ME I HAVE BEEN LURKING HIS TWITTER LIKE A LURKER alskdjfd part-time goalie, full-time redneck GOD WHY DOES HE EXIST. HE'S SO WEIRD. GOALIES ARE SO WEIRD.

YOU'VE SEEN BRYZ'S TWITTER TOO, RIGHT?

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
ahaha your Yotsuba icon is so appropriate

BUT SADLY I DON'T LOVE BREAD. Well, I don't hate it and I actually do enjoy freshly baked warm bread but basically most of the time I'm like I'M EATING THIS BECAUSE I'M STARVING AND IT'S FREE (at restaurants) or I'm like NO GIVE ME RICE.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I will acknowledge that homemade/freshly made bread is pretty fucking great, but I feel about it much the same way I do about desserts - good for about three bites or the equivalent thereof and then I'm done. Food blasphemy? Perhaps. Or perhaps I only ever encounter bread when I'm hungry for other things so I'm like WHY ARE YOU TAKING UP SPACE? >:(

I haven't watched that ep yet but Park Jisung and Rio Ferdinand will be together in an ep coming up! It's kind of amazing how big Running Man's gotten.

[identity profile] transitorial.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I am down to very few of my Yotsuba icons and refuse to pay LJ any more money ever, so I make do with what I have.

I love rice, and I prefer it to noodles hands-down (I totally just ate a bowl of rice with sriracha, lol,) but fresh-baked bread is just omnomdelucious

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
YES, WE CAN HATE ON MUSHROOMS TOGETHER. VILE THINGS.

It is a good thing I have friends who eat mushrooms though, so I just pile mine onto their plate while they judge me. Whatever, as long as I don't have to eat them!

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Sriracha is made of magic and goes on everything *___*

lol cock sauce. /mature

[identity profile] transitorial.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yesssss, it is the best ever, I love it. It also makes it impossible for my fiance to steal my food. Yay for (unintentionally) napalming the jungle?

MUSHROOM-HATING HIGH-FIVE. The texture is SO WEIRD AND UNPLEASANT. (I will admit to being a-okay with mushroom-based sauces where they're all cooked down so you don't actually have to chew them.)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I also just don't like the taste so alas no mushroom sauces or soups for me. :(

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I am so sad for people who cannot eat spicy food. :'( MISSING OUT ON SO MUCH DELICIOUSNESS. But like you said - more for us, I guess!

[personal profile] rsadelle 2012-05-29 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
That is also an acceptable hatred.

[identity profile] intomorning.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't eat a lot of bread, so I guess my love is kind of exaggerated. -__-; Sadly my attempts at making bread at home have ended with very small loaves.

I was surprised b/c there seems to be a lot of elaborate planning and manpower for the missions. Plus, there are sometimes vfx for ~powers. How fancy~

[identity profile] altri-uccelli.livejournal.com 2012-05-29 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I fail at finding stuff on the internets...is there somewhere the whole ASW can be found? I've gotten bits and pieces of the skills competition off YT but I feel there's like 92% of it that I haven't seen.

Also LA LA LA NOT LISTENING TO ANY BLASPHEMY ABOUT G AND HIS ACTUAL REALLIFE SEPARATE FROM 1) ON ICE, 2) BEING INTERVIEWED IN FRENCH, 3) DOING DORKY PR PIECES WHERE HE LIKE TAKES A TV LADY TO HIS FAVORITE TEA SHOP (TEA SHOP!!!) IN OTTAWA, OR 4) PLAYING SHIRTLESS CORNHOLE. Not listening to any of it.

Bread's better in Canada, trufax.

Hardcovers: I love 'em, too. I just got a first edition of a Rosemary Sutcliff book I love for like $10, shipped, from the UK, which is probably only $2 more than a trade paperback of the recent reprint. it's not that it's a first edition, as such, that I care about; it's that it'll feel sturdy, and the pages are sewn not glued to the binding, and the paper will be thicker and soft, and the typeface will be nice.

In conclusion,
