defending against the dark arts

Friday afternoons are the worst at work. Plus, it's so disgustingly hot that all the thoughts I had in my brain about the NHL Awards and NHL draft day and various trades and JORDAN STAAL and Euro 2012 have melted out of my brain.

Most of my thoughts about the NHL Awards are succinctly summarized here. For a less succinct summary, trawl through the "nhl+awards" tag on tumblr for gif sets and videos.

I will always wish for the Penguins to lose, but OMFG GENO. ♥

As expected, Claude Giroux wore a plaid suit. I knew he would. Why am I even attracted to that? God, I don't know why. Someone put me out of my misery.

Bonus:

Anyway, I totally went and rewatched clips from last year's awards, so what? Don't judge me. Just because Jeff Skinner's speech is the cutest fucking thing. (Jeff, ugh, don't talk to me about Jeff. He's a magical fucking unicorn and I love him.) Aside from that, though, last year was sort of an embarrassment. Apparently they had celebrity presenters who didn't know fuck-all about hockey, apparently, so we got things like "Nicholas Lindstrom" and "Martin Saint Lewis" and "Steve Whyzerman". Um.

Re: the draft and trades and all the rumors, all I have to say is: Dumbest Staal, come to the Caaaaaaaaaaanes. EVERYONE COME TO THE CANES. I want to collect you all! Bobby Ryan, Rick Nash, Jags! Dude. None of this even makes sense, in terms of what we need or what we could get but, shh, but everyone should come to my team. I want to be spoiled for choice. I am going to go to so many games next season - provided we have a season - regardless.

With the 2012-13 NHL season finally out, I can start scheduling my fall/winter life around hockey games and the Big Bang concert and my mom's birthday. Some or all of which will require me to barter away my soul to get the necessary days off work. I don't think I have enough soul, frankly. (I'm not starting off withmuch, okay?)

Still. Hockey fandom lately, I feel, can be summed up a little tongue-in-cheek as follows:

[livejournal.com profile] celerywench: lmao "Tanya and Eric met at the bar she used to work at"
[livejournal.com profile] meiface: brb hanging out in bars?
oh wait
still not blonde

Blah blah blah deeper thoughts on being an female Asian hockey fan, plus the larger context of society and the women's rights movement. Blah blah blah fucking men and the people who forever victim-blame women in favor of them.

Don't mind me; work's made me grumpy. Well, work and the state of the world. Germany's win made me happy briefly though - Lahmy! Khedira! Klose! Reus! :D

Oh. And Mesut Özil and his terrible clothing choices make me happy:

You'll get your goal soon, bb!

ETA: JORDAN STAAL TO CAROLINA. JORDAN STAAL IS IN CAROLINA. ALL THE STAAAAAAAAAAAAAALS. Or we could have Best and Lesser Staal win another Cup together while Ginger Staal weeps gently from New York. TWO FOR US. NONE FOR YOU.

The Puck Daddy comment threads are so frustrating in that sense. I should know better, but I can't stay away.

I made the mistake of scrolling down, reading five comments, and then I wanted to set the world on fire, so I had to vent at a friend, go do something else, and calm down.

Just. Incoherent frustration sometimes. Or maybe all the time!

I KNOW. FUCKING FUCK. How are these people even our fellow human beings? Why the vitrol?

Worst were the PKane May 5 shenanigans. *shudders* I logged in just so I could give thumbs-downs and report the worst offenders to the moderators. (One being: "It's impossible to rape a sororistitute.")

Oh my god, I still retain so much bitterness and cynicism from that incident. I posted about how it brought home the divide between RPS and reality, but god, all the other associated issues I word vomited at [livejournal.com profile] celerywench in person.

OH GOD. Like. Fuck me, I was in a sorority and it didn't come close to the sisterhood~ it's touted to be, but nor was it anywhere close to the way mainstream media (AND PORN - maybe you should rethink your view on something when it is the same demeaning view that is presented IN PORN) presents it. It's definitely one of my rage buttons.

omg, away from my computer most of the day so I just found out about JStaal!! I'm totally going to try to see the Canes when they play the Flyers in December.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
YES YES. I will also be aiming to go to that game and will probably wail no matter who wins. So exciting.

I need a Skinner icon (not that it's hard finding pics of him looking dimply and adorable).

What's your take on preseason games? [livejournal.com profile] sometimesalways told me that the big players often don't play in them, that they're more used for trying rookies out. I wanted so much to see the Hawks at Flyers on 9/25. Have you ever been?

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds about right - preseason games don't count and so are good places to try out rookies and new lines, but [livejournal.com profile] celerywench and I already have plans to see that Hawks-Flyers game. Time will be taken off work for it! And it'll probably be our first live hockey game, actually! We both only got into it the last few months but we, uh, fell really hard and deep.

I forget if you have any interest in the Caps but they're playing a preseason game with the Columbus Blue Jackets outdoors in Baltimore on 9/26!

..I still need Flyers icons. So many Flyers icons.

[identity profile] altri-uccelli.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it'll be my first live hockey game, too. There are so many players I like on both teams I probably won't cry too much if Toews, Seabrook, Kane et al. aren't on ice. (Though I hope that Q will play Kane since his role hasn't been clear, and of course what happens with Hossa is going to affect that too).

Ugh, so disappointed about the Balt. game. It's very unfortunate that I kind of can't stand the Caps because my life as a hockey fan would be much easier. And the poor CBJs, I just can't muster up even a twinge of interest in them even though I do like Jack Johnson, former Wolverine, Go Blue.

It's only because our taste has been forever compromised!

I had things to say about how miserable the world is to women but then I saw this (http://thedannyeffect.tumblr.com/post/25696416690) and now I'm beaming instead. Danny/Claaaaaaaaaude.

lmao I think you mean Rick Nash bb, Steve Nash may be Canadian but he's better known for basketball. That being said, I also love Steve Nash! HE IS GREAT AND DESERVES A CHAMPIONSHIP /o\

I found the NHL awards so painful oh my god, I missed it live so I watched the whole thing on cbc.ca thinking why am I doing this to myself ugh someone please laugh, matthew perry you're so awkward, this is so awkward whyyyyy

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-06-23 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
oh lord, how did i write Steve Nash when I've been spending the past week reading about Rick Nash and how Bobby Ryan on the trade market affects him? My brain. @__@ This is what happens when you have too many sports in your brain??

haha the NHL awards were painful but at least it had some funny and endearing moments. Apparently the previous years' awards were worse, so... Can you imagine?
