This is a Very Important Decision

[Poll #1866233]

I read pretty much every book in all three series as a kid and there are no options for Holmes (within my budget) or Agatha Christie, alas. But I am particularly nostalgic for my childhood mysteries anyway. Too bad I haven't seen The Boxcar Children, Encyclopedia Brown, or the The Three Investigators - I don't think they existed in hardcover anyway.

Sudden desire to reread all Roald Dahl books!

SHE IS GREAT, THOUGH. Although all I really remember from those books is Honey Wheeler?? My memory is a sieve.

She definitely wasn't as big or well-known as the Nancy Drew series but it was much in the same vein of plucky girl detective solving mysteries in a series of books. If you enjoyed Nancy Drew, you'd probably enjoy her!

I think I maybe have all his works since they're all in the public domain but link me anyway!

This reminds me I was going to upload some Sir Pterry for you too. Off I go!

Nancy Drew all the way. I wanted to grow up and rock her flying blue convertible.

DID YOU KNOW there is filthy BDSM Nancy/Ned on the internet? I mean, we shouldn't be surprised, right? But I still did a double take when I stumbled across it.

I... don't think I read any of the series when I was a kid. D: The only kid detective I remember is Encyclopedia Brown (haha, sometimes I would get impatient and go to the back to read how he solved the case).

Are you going to eat scones today? :P

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-09-15 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
NOO HOW DARE YOU BRING IT UP I'D JUST FORGOTTEN. Oh god, where am I going to get scones? D: Must find a good cafe in Silver Spring/Wheaton...

Also, you didn't even read Nancy Drew or The Hardy Boys? Huh. Maybe you didn't go through the mystery phase? What were your childhood series books?

[identity profile] intomorning.livejournal.com 2012-09-15 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh, I don't think I read either of those; I didn't have much of a mystery phase. Now I'm trying to remember what series/books I read when I was a kid... A Wrinkle In Time? I really loved Ella Enchanted and Bloomability.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-09-15 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOVE ELLA ENCHANTED. Forever and always. I reread it fairly recently and was actually angry it wasn't, like, 200 pages longer. The incredible world-building! I wanted more of Ella & Char's adventures in it. ;__;

First off, I didn't think anyone else knew about Trixie Belden. And as much as I loved Nacy and the Hardy Boys. Trixie was my absolute favorite.
I think my mom might still have my collection!

She's not as famous as Nancy or the Hardy Boys, for sure, but I read her! I loved her! :D I now need to get my hands on my childhood mysteries; these days I've mostly been (re)reading Agatha Christie & Sherlock Holmes.

[identity profile] papered.livejournal.com 2012-09-19 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
What is Trixie Belden??? I inhaled Nancy Drew mysteries are a kid, and I read the Hardy Boys although I wasn't as enamored with them.

(Wait, do you have/are you getting an ereader, Mei? Which one??)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-09-19 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
If you liked Nancy Drew you should look up some Trixie Belden! She's the same type of thing, plucky girl detective solving mysteries.

I have a Nook. :D
