DOUSHITE?! (wailed Miaka to Tamahome tearfully)

Happy December! Apparently CLAMP is returning with a new xxxHOLiC series. What the actual fuck, CLAMP. After you pissed off all your remaining fans with the ending of original HOLic (The Professor's Wife will forever remain my HOLiC canon), you still choose not to finish X/1999 and instead troll us harder. I swear they like to see their fans suffer as much as their characters. And yet they are still among my favorite manga-ka with some of my favorite series...

I remember enjoying the first volume of Gate 7 that I read, though I also remember thinking I would get so much more out of it if I were better familiar with Japanese history. I haven't managed to read through the new Legal Drug/Drug & Drop because the change in art style threw me so much (same issue with the new FAKE sequel). I did enjoy Kobato, though I suppose it makes sense since I loved WISH too. But really, I do miss their older stuff. It is hard to top CCS in terms of ~my feels~, because I am really just a twelve-year-old girl at heart, without the magical sparkly powers.

But this is maybe a good nudge back towards manga. Teen Wolf fic is feeling very samey-samey these days, on top of the fandom imploding with wank. I am avoiding all of that except for Tyler Hoechlin's face. Anyway, this month there will be H/D to read! But I definitely think some manga will be a nice fannish distraction too.

My fannish life is so scintillating these days, lol. I had some excitement over MAMA 2012, mostly in boggling at Adam Lambert performing (Amber singing along wtaf alskdfjslkfh), screeching with glee over Wang Lee Hom performing, and sort of just...completely uncomprehending of GD and Yesung sitting next to each other. That said, aw, congrats Suju, even though I feel kind of bad for Kangin to be back in a group where his two best friends/troublemakers are gone. BUT MOSTLY I HAD A LOT OF BIG BANG LOVE. And I will never not love Epik High - their performance and how much they rocked out to BB. ♥ YG family love.

Re the post title: Fushigi Yuugi will forever be my go-to series for the most anguished romantic wailing (both towards the respective true love and also to the fates)

Oh god, what's Teen Wolf fandom wanking over now?

WANG LEEHOOOOOOOM, I LOVE HIM. :D

As far as I can glean from the outskirts before running away, S3 casting mostly - potential love interests (idek for whom), racial issues (particularly for a character named after a Hindu goddess), Jeff deleting/locking down his Twitter because he can't handle criticism/trolling (not sure which, or both), Sterek (always) aaaand possibly also whether or not Stiles is going to keep Dylan's hair or get a buzzcut. And whose fault in fandom everything is, of course. There is a lot of shouting and finger-pointing and general clusterfuckedness. SO. FUN.

Wang Leehom and his voice is excellent! I love good cpop, although it was a bit weird to see that collide with kpop - not that weird since SJM, of course, and not nearly as weird as Glambert and kpop but. Mostly this all brings me back to wanting SJM lol.

I'm curious, too (about TW...I just drop in AO3 and read derek/stiles periodically and have otherwise no contact with the fandom).

Thanks for the Adam link. I haven't been following him since the end of Glam Nation Tour, but I'm glad to see Tommy Joe looking as doe-eyed and waiflike as ever. Also glad to see him playing guitar! He only played bass on GNT because Monte was already in the band, as I recall.

That's the way to do it! I am pretty much only doing that now. I was on the fringe of the tumblr fandom mostly because I like pretty pics, but it has gotten to be too much of a clusterfuck. C/p-ed from above:

Best to avoid, I think.

But yes, Tommy looked great! Adam threw me by having facial hair, hah. But he also tweeted that kpop stars dressed FIERCE and I know kpop fans had a field day with that.

THERE IS NEW LEGAL DRUG?? WHERE HAVE I BEEN? (ALSO WHERE IS THE REST OF X FSJFSL CLAMP WAE)

My 60 year aunt is an Adam Lambert stan and she's been spamming me about MAMA and kpop and it's so weird.

I bought the first volume of Gate 7 but I wasn't hooked like I have been with their previous series. Maybe I'll check it out a few more volumes before giving up.

lol Fushigi Yuugi, the pride and embarrassment of my middle school years. Nuriko stan 4 lyfe

Yes! After something like 8 years, CLAMP is finally releasing new Legal Drug! Now packaged as Drug & Drop (http://mangafox.me/manga/drug_drop/). I still have to adjust to the new art style before I catch up. /o\ I hate reading WIPs, though, sob. I am so awful at keeping up regularly. Damn you, manga!!

Gate 7 still strikes me as very later-arc TRC/HOLiC-esque (mysterious spirits, a wide organization of people in the background who haven't all been introduced, endless secrets, an "ordinary" protagonist who gets dragged in over his head, epic fighting, an excuse to draw gorgeous outfits) but also relies very heavily on Japanese history. It's a bit heavy and I know I tend to enjoy the feel-good adorable fluff and funny interactions that was much of their earlier works (and Kobato, kind of), but I think that's partly because I no longer trust CLAMP not to mindfuck us over with their convoluted plots lol.

Ahaha surreal fandom moments when Western glam meets kpop.

NURIKO WAS MY FAVORITE TOO.

random question: what's your favorite song of his?

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2012-12-03 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
omg hard question ;A; well I haven't heard any of the albums after xintiao, so I suppose my most recently released favourite is chunyu li xiguo de taiyang.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-04 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh I don't think I've heard that. Time to go look it up! (So bad with keeping up with cpop augh)

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2012-12-11 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
it's really pretty! :) I don't keep up with cpop AT ALL. or any ... kind ... of music >______< I just generally wait for people to recommend me stuff or randomly discover things in youtube links. The latter is how I end up listening to >1hr long tracks with titles like "super mega chill ~silk roads~ mix" ... and the former is how I discovered THE GREATNESS that is WARDRUNA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-6JJvfJAIY).

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-17 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
oh let's be honest, i usually get into my cpop via kpop - or sjm, really. SJM NEED TO COME BACK AND COVER CPOP SONGS SO I HAVE NEW SONGS. and also practice my mandarin more, lol.

Teen Wolf fic is feeling samey-samey for me as well. I suppose it could be partly because the fandom overwhelmingly trends Sterek and a lot of people accept the same fanon.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-05 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you're right. I mean, I ship Sterek and I love a lot of fandom clichés, but even I'm getting tired by the same plot over and over. I'm sure there are still creative plots out there being written, they are just more spread out and maybe easily overwhelmed by the flood of fics every day that are the same.

Gales of laughter on my end... I have yet to see MAMA all the way through but it is on my list. You intrigue me with the idea of GD and Yesung sitting together! Though I did see the complete and total YG Lovefest! Epik High... what else can I say? Sighhhhh.

Fushigi Yuuggi! Second all time favorite! Geez, I haven't read manga in ages. That was one of the last ones before I gave up that ghost.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-05 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I ended up skipping some awards and announcements involving people I didn't know (it was 4 hours long! jeez) but there was a lot of good stuff from SM and YG. So thrilled to see Epik High rocking out to Big Bang; it's kind of the cutest how much they all get along. :D Makes me happy.

Oh Fushigi Yuugi, the first anime I was fannish about, lol. It seems like ages ago. Which is your first all time favorite?

[identity profile] acornmama.livejournal.com 2012-12-05 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
A friend hipped me to the after party videos which are a blast. They were taken down on youtube but are still up on youkou.com.

My all time favorite ever is Sanctuary though I didn't watch the anime. I read the books and fell in love.
All time favorite anime? Hakkenden: Legend of the Dog Warriors!

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa, I don't think I've heard of it so I searched it on Wiki and it sounds fascinating. Political thrillers! Yakuza! And then the immature part of me chuckled because the name "Asami" to me calls to mind the filthiest smut from yakuza BL by Yamane Ayano.

And only 12 volumes - maybe I should give it a go. It's nice and meaty without being ridiculously long like, uh, One Piece, which is on something like its 68th volume. (Worth it though. LOVE One Piece. Though my favorite manga of all time is probably Hikaru no Go.)

[identity profile] acornmama.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Go for it! I remember devouring every volume in the comic book store then bringing each one home and doing it all over again.

And now I need to go find the filthy smut. Thank you:)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
haha it's the Viewfinder/Finder series by Yamane Ayano. Enjoy!

I am so distracted right now by Star Trek and H/D but I'll see if I can't carve out some manga appreciation time. :D

[identity profile] acornmama.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

I laugh only because you always seem knee deep in whatever has your attention!
