Star Trek Into Darkness: 8 thoughts

ALSKDFJSLKDJF THIS TRAILER (THAT LJ WON'T LET ME EMBED because it won't accept the new embed codes, which is fucking stupid because the old ones are massive security holes) ANYWAY.

A SHOT BY SHOT ANALYSIS.

Thoughts:

1. aslkdjflskghlkfjdf
2. Lille: LOLOL WHAT IS WITH THE BANE-ESQUE VOICE OVER?! / me: lol the entire trailer is TDKR-esque
3. skdgjsg feelings
4. WHERE IS CHEKOV??
5. Gary Mitchell, Gary Mitchell! It fits in with his backstory and also the synopsis on IMDB (also I will be pissed if Cumberbatch is Khan)
6. Wrath of Khan tribute - I love that they do these nods to the existing franchise but still get to do new things.

7. IS IT DEC 17, HOBBIT IMAX PREVIEW, OR MAY 17 YET?
8. And most importantly: When do we get our Pinto rivalry over the mastery of the English language interviews again?!

♥♥♥!

I'm really hoping we get Gary Mitchell. Alice Eve looks so much like Elizabeth Dehner.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! That is what many people including me are thinking and I hope that's the case. Obviously they may have changed his story a bit since it's AU, and it's always interesting to see where they decide to go a different route.

the "BRAUUUUUUGH BRAAAAUUUUUUUUGH" bits made me think of inception :3

Same. It is a movie soundtrack thing we can never get away from now...

also this one doesn't seem as fun as the last one ... ):

(still amazingly glaring lack of diversity in the future tho. /pours cold water)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-06 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's still Hollywood.

but thanks for that. should I ask about the diversity in the Hobbit?

have you (I'm sure I ask this every year) read the Dark is Rising? CHRISTMAS IS THE PERFECT TIME FOR IT :D

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-07 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I have not! Why is Christmas the perfect time for it?

[identity profile] 2naonh3-cl2.livejournal.com 2012-12-07 01:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The Dark is Rising takes place during the Christmas holidays, so throughout the entire story arc, you have it entirely drenched in Christmas celebrations and traditions.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-08 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
tangential to holiday-esque traditions, wow i really want apple cider.

YAY A PERSON WHO HAS READ IT TOO :D

I really want to do a day-by-day read through but I'm afraid I won't have the self-discipline to stop. ;___;

The Dark is Rising is set during winter, around Christmastime. Possibly during the twelve days of Christmas? Haha it's been quite a while since I last read it. Anyway, it's lovely and based in English folklore.

Oh My Goooooooood God! I love it. I love it all. I refuse to watch the trailer though. These days the trailer is practically the movie and they did such a spectacular job with the first one.... you have no idea how rare such words are, remakes tend to fall very flat. But as we all know this was wonder-full so I will trust -fingers very much crossed- and wait and watch.
Wait did you say Cumberbatch as Khan? No,no. No.
Haha, isn't Cumberbatch in The Hobbit too?

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-07 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
aw this is only a minute long and honestly gives very little of the plot away, lol. More will probably be given away in the longer "actual" trailer supposed to come out in a week. Regardless, it is awesome to see the cast again and shiny exploding things and aslkfjkd. News in general! I hope it is an awesome a movie as the last one was.

Rumors have Cumberbatch as Khan but it's never been confirmed what villain he was; bets are also on Gary Mitchell though I suppose since it's an alternate timeline he could be someone different altogether, or an amalgamation of two.

He is! As Smaug I think?

[identity profile] intomorning.livejournal.com 2012-12-07 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
- YAY, STAR TREK POST! Party post!
- Haha, I didn't recognize Simon Pegg or Karl Urban the first time I watched the trailer. Agreed re: where's Anton Yelchin?
- Lots of gray and blue... To signify grittiness? /cobbsquint Jk.
- I really hope Cumberbatch isn't Khan. :|
- Pinto had the best interviews! :D (Whoops, my last two basically parrot what you said. xD;)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-07 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
IT SHOULD BE A PARTY POST. FULL OF CONFETTI AND EXCITEMENT. I know there's still 5 months til the movie's out but alskdfj it's been 4.5 freaking years, I think we get to celebrate a little bit now that we're so close. I hope it's an awesome movie.

John Chooooo. And hopefully more Anton Yelchin in the actual film! I am a ball of feelings about this cast of which Cumberbatch probably has my fewest. /o\ And I enjoy Sherlock! He's just not associated with STXI excitement for me, I guess. Well, I guess also because while I enjoyed Sherlock as a series, I never got super fannish about it or the cast.

Time to rewatch a bunch of Pinto interviews, heh.

I want this movie like WOAH! I can't believe they are tantalising me with this and it is still MONTHS away.

(Then again I have been hanging out for the Hobbit for a year now.)

The trailer is suggesting some amazing action and drama I'm just hoping it will also be light on plot-holes.

I'm sating my need with Star Trek cast movies like Unstoppable (for the 4th time) and Bruce Greenwood's Batman voice.

Actually I saw Rise of the Guardians last week and was absolutely in love with Chris Pine's performance as Jack Frost.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-19 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW! Still 5 months away. ;__; But all you Hobbit fans have the new movie and resurrected fandom to distract you, right? :D

I've been having fun exchanging theories with my friends about who the villain is supposed to be and various plot points. The awesome news is the main cast is signed on for three movies, so we know there will be one more after this at least!

Eee yes Rise of the Guardians was adorable and Jack Frost was essentially Jim Kirk to me, but animated - still full of the same sort of brash confidence, secret insecurity, love of fun, etc. So it makes sense that Chris Pine did such an awesome job. ;)

[identity profile] arccie.livejournal.com 2012-12-23 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
5 months of (probably) ever more tantalising trailers.

(I am also waiting around for Iron Man 3 with probably just as much dread as anticipation.)

You're not a Hobbit fan? I probably won't fall into the Hobbit fandom - I never did with Lord of The Rings really. Mostly I'm hoping for decent entertainment and a nice dose of Ian McKellan and Martin Freeman.

There are a few theories about the villain circling the internet. I'm not sure if I want to know beforehand or be surprised. Three movies is good news. I hope they continue to write entertaining movies so that we might continue to enjoy them for that long (and maybe even longer).

I'm really hoping they're going to be creative and while they might tip their hats at TOS that they're going to think of original adventures and villains as well.

Rise of the Guardians was such a cute movie and Jack Frost the epitome of this. Chris Pine did an amazing job and so did the rest of the cast. I have ridiculous amounyts of adoration for Hugh Jackman and Bunny (and the over the top Australia/Crocodile Dundee references).

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-12-31 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Alas, I never read LotR or the Hobbit growing up and so they were not fandoms I was very invested in. I did see all the LotR films but I saw them in reverse order, haha. Did you go see The Hobbit? My friends who were into it seemed thrilled over it. :D

I have indulged in much speculation over Star Trek but agreeing with you that they tribute TOS and its villains but maybe gives it an original spin. Mostly I am excited about new interviews and really just want the movie. Still so far off, sob. But the interviews have been great, of the ones I've seen. :D Pinto still being awesome together.

RotG was so so cute! The characters were great. I have a particular fondness for Bunny too, heh. Especially his prickly personality as compared to how carefully and delicately he treated spring and Easter eggs (also when he became the tiny fluffy bunny!).
