what if I now need a Qmi TSN AU?

So there's a weird moment when you realize a ton of the TSN fics you're reading have a Mark/Eduardo dynamic that is essentially the same as Qmi: Happy sunshine tall and attractive dude usually presumed gay plus the socially awkward blunt and kind of trolly computer geek that he loves and adores and takes care of.

Also weird: seeing Mark Zuckerburg on TV after you've started reading TSN fic. I don't know why it's weirder to me than kpop RPF or even hockey RPF. The lack of language barrier? The prominence in mainstream news? The daily use of Facebook? I mean, honestly, TSN fic is more like fic of fic, but even with that added degree of separation from reality, it throws me a lot more frequently.

Anyway! My entire body aches like I've been hit repeatedly with sticks. D: This is what happens when my body hates me, i.e., I don't sleep well. (Or I'm a terrible hockey player in another universe except all the pain echos through universes. Yes, I have been reading too many universe swap fics, why do you ask?) Hopefully I recover enough for Thursday night (Caps fan appreciation event!!) and Saturday (NHL GAMES YESSS also brunch with mimosas, yum).

celerywench and I got our tickets to the 2/02 Canes @ Flyers game in Philly! We'll get back dead tired on Sunday in time to watch - or fall asleep through - the Pens @ Caps game at noon and then the Super Bowl! Oh Pens @ Caps, congrats on scheduling your game right before the Super Bowl to better increase the chances of anyone caring. On the bright (?) side, the Redskins didn't get anywhere near the Super Bowl, so maybe there is incrementally less competition for attention.

I'm holding off on other games for now. We'll see how I feel about Caps games in a few weeks.

Why are all the recent Teen Wolf fics terrible? Why does SJM love brushing their teeth so much? What's the difference between 'partly' and 'partially'?

I don't even know how to write anymore. ;__; Also the TSN story is a tragic story! Qmi would be better with a TSN AU, so it's like double AU, so I might as well just take a TSN AU fic and find & replace Qmi's names into it, lol.

Mark showed up on SNL the night Jesse Eisenberg hosted. Tres awkward. Though that distinction, that the Social Network was what people were basing their fics on so it wasn't really RPF, was established fairly early on in the fandom. Didn't stop people from using stuff from their real lives though.

I get why some people are uncomfortable with RPF, though I've been sort of shipping it since, what, BSB days? That was before I discovered slash, so I think it was Justin/Britney or Nick/Britney or something like that. I'm thinking TSN fic ("RPF" or not) weirds me out a little this time because FB is so mainstream and sort of the epitome of "where not to be overtly fannish" to me, so combining that with the heart of my fannish activities is just...a bit disconcerting.

Yes it is a bit weird to finish a TSN and then have the urge to check FB. I suppose the difference between TSN and other RPF is that a lot of the time it is based on musicians and actors who definitely put a manufactured version of themselves out there. MZ does so to an extent, but more puts forward a product than himself as a person.

Celebrity! Not as overtly manufactured as the heyday of the studio system, but it certainly still exists! The rise of One Direction is interesting from that perspective. /nerd

It was one of the fun parts :D there's some lovely R+ stuff in the fandom as well. Eduardo does ansgt so well too.

I don't know that much about 1D (except their stupid catchy songs and the occasional AU fic...) but I wonder how manufactured their celebrity is compared to kpop/jpop industry celebrity...

Also I was just on IMDB and LOL I totally forgot Justin Timberlake was in that movie. That casts Sean Parker in a whole new light in my head.

Hmm, probably not as manufactured? They're one band in the scheme of things and while the Western music industry certainly controls artists/bands the kpop/jpop industry seems more well established in creating bands and artists. The Western music industry kind of stopped that for a decade. Though reality TV (Idol, X Factor etc) did sort of replace that to an extent. And reality TV grows more and more manufactured and controlled by the producers. But on the other hand, those sort of shows do exist in Japan and Korea. Though I am reminded that Taylor Swift is dating Harry Styles and I can't help but wonder how real that is... She (or her team) has put a strongly crafted image out there.

Ha, true. Justin was bringing sexy back when FB was being created.

My theory on the terribleness of TW fanfic is that no one, absolutely no one, uses a beta. I think ninety percent of them could use a good edit before they're posted.

Oh, for sure; not just the basic mechanical fails but also in terms of pacing and characterization. All that aside, though, I feel like 90% of the stories are exactly the same story. :( But how much can I complain when I don't write anymore?? Oh well.
