Rule #32: enjoy the little things
I pretty much never post substantive entries here anymore because life drains me! Or because it's all inconsequential whining I do over on my RL journal which y'all probably don't want to be privy to anyway. It's not exactly scintillating stuff.
Anyway, here are a few wrap-up comments from April:
1. Jason Collin's SI.com piece is incredibly well-written and moving. I found it interesting how many qualifiers need to be applied in order to give him the title "first" - first active, male pro athlete in one of the four major American sports to come out openly as gay. Meaning women have done it; meaning that retired guys have done it; meaning non-pro athletes have done it; meaning pro athletes in one of the non-major sports has done it. And yet it's undeniable how monumental of an announcement this still remains, and I think that says a lot about how much value our culture places on people like him - male pro athletes in the four major sports. And it matters that he's active and not retired because he'll potentially deal with backlash in the locker room.
2. This reddit thread about couples in love is both really sweet and SUPER DEPRESSING. Accurate gif. I mean, seriously though, HOW DO RELATIONSHIPS WORK? I am evidently in one, but I am still wandering around in neurotic confusion.
3. Oh hockey. I love you, Bryz. And I think he has a fair point, and also if they fire Lavy I'll be pissed. I'm more dismayed at the imminent off-season though, because what am I going to do without hockey? Last year I at least had the Olympics. But I'm looking too far ahead. First, let's get to the playoffs.
Speaking of which, here are things I am looking forward to in May:
1. HATEFUL HOCKEY PLAYOFFS, YESSS. Since Columbus didn't make it in, I guess I'm vaguely rooting for the Blues. St. Louis ties and all. (Also, DAVID BACKES ILU. And uhhh Broshie.)
2. STAR TREK. NOW YOU SEE ME. My body is ready. Pinto interviews are at their most glorious, once again. Jesse Eisenberg remains my top crush of the moment. (As an aside, I watched Zombieland and it was really cute except for all the zombies. Man, I hate zombies. But it seems like the fad has peaked. What's the next big supernatural monster of the week? Werewolves, I guess.)

A QUESTION FOR THE AGES. I can't actually tell if I'm in one or not (iunno, do you really count as "seeing each other" when you never actually see each other in person, like ever, because you're always haring off to conferences or refugee centers or the DMZ or whatever, and he's always like, busy shooting rifles or ruck marching or something, and neither of you actually remembers that the other exists most of the time), or something in between, because I generally never notice when I'm dating someone until they suddenly become an ex-person-I-was-dating, which probably tells you a great deal about my love life management skills, or lack thereof.
And now that I've managed to run-on-sentence!muse about my own life for an entire paragraph of your journal, I would honestly love to hear about yours. SHARING IS CARING. How's your relationship? :D
... Also, Chris Pine in a vocabulary-off is maybe the sexiest thing I've ever seen that man do. Bless.

Mine is far less exciting! I was bored, I decided I'd make an online dating profile, I met some guys who were nice enough but with whom I had no chemistry, and then I met this guy and there was a ~spark~ to my complete bafflement (I didn't believe it was a thing that could happen to me), and things have been good since then! Despite my neuroses and general "WHAT AM I DOING? WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING?" mental state most of the time.
Pinto's $10 word competitions are basically the best thing about Star Trek promos. Fan theories and trailers, eh, they're okay. VOCABULARY WORD-OFF, YESSS.
