This is all I will say for now on the Israeli-Palestine conflict:

Just a thought on the killing of civilians that Israel is "forced" to carry out. If Hamas in its entirety were gathered together in a building, but that building was surrounded by Jewish settlers likely to be killed or injured, would Israel strike it? The obvious answer to that question is no, they wouldn't. They'd find another way. Guilt by proximity wouldn't apply to those Jewish settlers and neither should it apply to the civilians of Gaza. Israel kills them because it does not consider them worthy of consideration. That aside from any other consideration of Israel's contribution to the conflict deserves condemnation.

On a completely different topic, here is a really well-written and enlightening look into the politics and turf wars of non-profit organizations/advocacy groups around LGBT athletes and coming out:

How One Gay Athlete's Coming Out Led To An Activists' War
by Barry Petchesky
Great writing and reporting; a behind the scenes look that's as frustrating as it is thought provoking. I can see how Taylor and Athlete Ally mean well, but meaning well doesn't excuse actual harm done and oftentimes misses the bigger picture as well. Comments are surprisingly not terrible.

In news that doesn't make me angry/sad: [livejournal.com profile] celerywench is in Portland for work and SHE IS STAYING IN THE SAME HOTEL AS BAYERN MUNICH, who are there to play against MLS All Stars on Wednesday. I am writhing in jealousy. I told her to stalk Müller for me (or at least holler "Thomas!" into the ether and see if he appeared), but she can't tell the team from Adam and approached a group of hot Frenchmen to ask if they were German, perhaps.

BUT LOOK AT THOMAS.

Oh man, I hope she has a great trip though. I am here, back from a long weekend in Vermont (which was gorgeous), and still so antsy about going somewhere and doing something, because DC in August is not my favorite. Nothing in August is my favorite. August is my least favorite month and it's only started. (insert heavy sigh)

the whole situation in Gaza is so fucked up.. I wished they would just start to be responsible people. All of them. v__v
And I'm pretty sure there are other ways... as long as they stop with the "I want everything and will not compromise"... *sigh*

Watching the news makes me so sad...

It's absolutely horrific. And it's frustrating and awful that so many people continue making decisions that end up with thousands of dead civilians. Ugh, and not just in Gaza - world news really hasn't been great lately. You're right, the news recently is just sad.
