A collection of cool, fun, interesting things I've collected over the past few weeks as I deal with the struggle of world news every day at work:

• A cool artistic rendering of feathered dinosaurs, based on what we now know of them versus the images I grew up with as a kid. Still badass.


• A great AMA by a very enthusiastic toxinologist (guy who works with venomous animals), a paleontologist with opinions about dinosaurs, a survivor of the Utoya massacre, three years later, and a girl from a tiny village on the Solomon Islands now in Australia for school. Fascinating, enlightening, sometimes funny and sometimes thought-provoking.


• Tiffany looking hot as hell. You work that, girl. I'm envious.


• Hilarious/creepy failed panoramic photos. This killed me and all my co-workers when we saw it. SO GREAT.


• Gorgeous pinao duet of River Runs In You by Yiruma and Henry ♥♥♥


• Sun versus moon work ethic. (I can't help but seeing Kane and Toews...)


• Breathtaking MakoHaru fanart. (It makes me crave good, long, plotty/angsty/porny MakoHaru, but does anything exist out there that I haven't read?)


• Sakura Kiss - strings version


• A piece of advice from Allen Ginsberg.

• Don't look at me; I still get these feelings.

End of August is nearing! We're getting there slowly.

"Dead Reckoning" is an excellent long MakoHaru fic! And there are a couple others back from the start of season one, but nothing really stands out for season two yet, since obviously it's still ongoing and I guess people are still writing. Ahh, I almost want to write stuff myself, but I'm so creatively blocked these days. :(

NP, I hope you enjoy it! I'm also reading this (http://archiveofourown.org/works/1906233/chapters/4111341) which is unfortunately a WIP but it's a super fun AU. So AU though, haha. But the author has some other good completed things.

I'm excited for the new episode: I hear it features grumpy!jealous!Haru which sounds hilarious.

Ahahaha, I've only rarely written fanfic, but NGL, I've been weirdly in the mood to write pseudo-plotless, stream-of-consciousness Makoto getting with various other Free! characters. Haru! Rin! Gou! Whatever! Like, just because. (This is probably like, the opposite of what you want, oops??)

I also had a truly bizarre plot bunny for a grown-up!Gou POV on grown-up!Makoto re-encountering (& possibly shacking up with) Gou, in the context of a ~complicated~ Mako/Haru history. There is potentially a weird menage a trois vibe to this one.

IDEK, APPARENTLY MY WRITERBRAIN IS JUST REALLY WEIRDLY FIXATED ON THE THOUGHT OF WRITING POOR SOFT-SPOKEN, EMBARRASSED MAKOTO AS SECRETLY KIND OF SLUTTY. I AM SO SORRY.

Oh, and I'd totally kind of itch to write AUs for these kids, too. Just because I'm always itching to write AUs -- that is possibly my inner originalfic!writer clamoring. ;)

MAKO/GOU. MAKO/EVERYONE. (Seriously, I ship Mako/Sousuke even because...why not. WHY NOT, I say. Everyone can be swayed by Makoto's charm, idek. And speaking of the MakoRin feels you mentioned, one of my friends solved the MakoHaru v. RinHaru fandom wars in her head by shipping MakoRin instead, because yes, cuteness! And they were friends too! And maybe it's actually a healthier relationship to develop when you're not overly invested the way they both are in Haru...)

SOFT-SPOKEN, EMBARRASSED MAKOTO AS SECRETLY KIND OF SLUTTY.

Oh god, this statement reeks of (fandom!)Eduardo to me, which pings me in particular because I have, as previously mentioned, unending feelings for TSN apparently. Slutty!Eduardo was a really, really popular thing. Of course, it turns so easily into angst. Which, you know, I'M FOR IT. The sweet-faced good friend who is a total (vigorous and healthy) slut and maybe that's great for everyone.

Oh god, I actually did just randomly sit down & write like the first half of a weird/angsty/filthy Gou/Mako/(Haru) futurefic (http://chaos-harmony.livejournal.com/384519.html) instead of working on my novel proper; WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME. I APOLOGIZE FOR ALL THE THINGS. /facepalms

Yes, I had this thought too! Mako's general sweet-natured laid-back-ness could probably help temper Rin's more competitive/temperamental edge & Rin's ambition might be able to spark Mako up some, and in the mean time, they have common ground in the form of caretaking their respective teams (albeit in different ways). Yay captainshipping!

... Speaking of the Mako/Haru/Rin triumvirate, when my friends & I went to see the Free! photoshoot at Otakon, there was this one tiny girl who kept shrieking "THREEWAY FREEWAY!" at the cosplayers. Ah, Threeway Freeway Girl, so much cray in one small person (though she might not be wrong).
