sica, our reigning ice princess

So the news on Jessica leaving/being forced out from Soshi:

I find this fascinating from a contracts law perspective because she's definitely one of the most popular members and SM knows it. They'd hate for her to leave. So she must have pushed hard during negotiations with them -- possibly for more time off, marriage (pregnancy?) -- for SM to decide that they just couldn't give her what they wanted while maintaining what they wanted, i.e., GG as a whole group of attractively single and marketable girls who do a hell of a LOT of activities.

I can see SM's side in this, as a business -- and let's be honest, they've been extremely successful at what they do -- but on the other hand it's also kind of a terrible business to be in and particularly to women. I'm all for Jessica owning her own business and getting married if that's what she wants and making more out of her life; she gave a good chunk to SM and GG; I think it's perfectly valid to want to move on. Of course, the whole legal process and battle is never the prettiest way to go about it, but SM's had some precedent with this...

I mean, it sounds like they just terminated the part that had her in GG but SM is still managing her, which seems like a weird change in contract terms/possible violation by someone, which is why it's fascinating! But bizarre.

All this aside, I'll miss her in Soshi and fully support her getting the rest of her life on. Damn, girl.

Oh yeah, I totally agree. The timing was bizarre -- I guess in a sense Jessica forced their hand with her weibo post, but that they decided to tell her right then that they were kicking her out was strange. Or, more diplomatically, not be part of future Soshi activities. But that's where I think the behind the scenes negotiations must be super interesting, about what led up to this because I am sure both sides had lawyers who knew what they were doing. And this seems like the least ideal outcome for SM; maybe Jessica's lawyers are just really shrewd PR people too. Orrr.... maybe she was just genuinely surprised/hurt and lawyers can't control everything their clients do when upset. So. :\

All that aside, ahhh I never expected SNSD to go out this way!

So new this morning, the "insider" scoop on what went down with SM and SNSD and Jessica: http://t.co/HwFFceWaIJ

It actually sounds like good intentions and misaligned priorities on both sides, but again the timing of everything is questionable. Emotions boil over, I guess. In the end, I guess it's all moot point since what's done is done and everyone's been hurt. Soshi's OT9 seemed so strong, especially in the years around SJ and TVXQ having their crises! It's a pity. It would be easy to pin it all on SM (and at least some of it has to be how they run their business), but the industry in general probably contributes as well.

Yeah, it's a mess -- and all this stuff about her getting married, but Tyler now denying any marriage to take place. Safe to say we don't have the whole story and maybe never will, though I support the idea of the tell-all book at some point!

I feel like my brain has gone pbbblt. Only because I wasn't even aware that this was going on. I wake up today and see this and all I can think really is ... it is hard watching your babies grow up and become independent. They make choices you wouldn't necessarily make or agree with and then you find that the choices they made are the right ones for them. It is their life to live.
This is like watching your baby grow up and live her own life. It's kind of wild watching all of the kpop groups I started out with grow up! And this is just another example

Yeah, the only reason I hear this stuff is because social media keeps me up to date -- usually I see a reaction or a headline and go, "What?" and hunt down more info. This really seemed to come out of nowhere though. And, yeah, it's strange that all the kpop groups we started out with so many years ago have all undergone so much drama and changes...

I feel bad for the other members :( The media will definitely play up the drama and ugh there are going to be bad emotions and feelings of betrayal with the suddenness and conflicting info.

but....good on jessica if this what she wants. I mean, she's 25 o_O (jesus we really grew up at the same time/along side them). i get it. the restlessness. wanting to figure your shit out; unsatisfied by the status quo. ...no longer being able to play cute without feeling awks about it lol.
also that tyler fellow. get it girl. power couple in the making~

but also i will die laughing (...and then of envy) if she ends up moving to nyc. going to nyu/fit/etc. and having some super swank apt/life/blog/show >[
