A fandom meme to wrap up 2014.


Your main fandom of the year?
Based off my Pinboard, because I have no memory, I entered the year on a hockey kick, meandered briefly back to football RPS to realize there was none, and then got really into the Winter Olympics. I dipped toes back into Merlin, FMA, Teen Wolf, DCU, Free!, 1D, and Harry Potter for fic, but mostly I think I spent a lot of time rereading TSN and drowning in feelings. And having a lot of feelings about sports (hockey, figure skating, World Cup, football, handegg).

Your favourite film you watched this year?
Because Big Hero 6 and The Book of Life are the only things I remember watching this year, a tie between the two of them. Big Hero 6 for its humor and feelings and amazing first half, and TBOL for its gorgeous visuals.

Look, I suck at movies. I only ever appreciate kids' movies!

Your favourite book read this year?
I think Graceling was this year. I enjoyed that a lot. (Boy, was it weird to get back into reading first person POV YA.)

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year
SJM's Swing was initially meh to me, but I think it stockholmed me into adoring it, especially after I started paying attention to the lyrics of 一分后 (After A Minute). Probably my favorite song of the year. I was thrilled, of course, about Zhou Mi's solo (AT LAST!!!). I also enjoyed Fall Out Boy (inescapable in sports apparently) and TSwift's 1989.

Your favourite TV show of the year?
Elementary S3 has been entirely happy-making. MasterChef Junior was a delight. But this hands down goes to Abnormal Summit. ♥

Your favorite DW/LJ community of the year?
Oh FFA. (What else remains?)

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
ABNORMAL SUMMIT.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
All of sports? Well, the World Cup was a pretty bright spot and we did get rid of Suarez (and lost our scoring ability with him), so aside from that. All of sports, particularly hockey. Oh Canes...

Your fandom boyfriend of the year?
Yuzuru Hanyu during the Olympics, Thomas Müller during the World Cup, and right now Alberto is rocking it up there right now. Gerniel, bless him and his piano too.

Your fandom girlfriend of the year?
Oh gosh, I don't know. Always fond of Victoria but extra fond of Jihyo from Running Man whenever I watch.

Your biggest squee moment of the year?
One moment: ZHOU MI'S SOLO ALBUM AHH OMG.
Bonus moments: TJ Oshie in the shootout. All of the World Cup. All of Abnormal Summit? :D

The most missed of your old fandoms?
SJM always and forever, but I got to watch some of their great variety shows this summer! Missing ouran a bit as I'm in the middle of a slow rewatch of the anime, which is glorious. And I'm going to reread Slam Dunk, yes.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?
New Big Bang album! SOMEDAY? I pray. Let's see, NYSM2 isn't out until 2016, so next year is that terrible Batman versus Superman movie I don't care about excpet for its inclusion of Jesse Eisenberg. So...maybe I pray for the rest of Abnormal Summit to get subbed?

When Makoto takes up modeling for the university magazine, Haru learns a few things, among them that he should listen more carefully when Makoto talks and that Rin is too distracted by meeting swimming legends to give much advice. Somehow, he muddles through.

I'm not sure, but I think that was the first Free! fic I've read. I absolutely loved it. It felt believable that they'd get together that way. I especially enjoyed Haru's internal debating on what to do, and the fact that Rin encouraged him to be honest with Makoto. It was nice seeing the friendships as well as my favorite romantic pairing in this story. Now if only those photos could be real. I'd buy a copy of that magazine ASAP. :-)

So late, but thank you so much for the comment! I'm really glad you enjoyed that fic. It was almost strange to be writing again (and then not!), but it was fun and I'm glad Free! brought the characters and dynamics that made me want to write again. :D

I remember you posting about Free! and TSN mostly. Harry Potter is one of those fandoms you can just slide back into, grateful that there are people always writing it ^^

I may never escape the TSN feels. orz Free! has come and gone except for occasional cute fanart that comes across my Tumblr dash. HP is great for fic, always. There's just so much! And so much of it long!

TSN is coming back for everything! lol. HP remains a stand out on that front. I have so much to read! It is the sort of fandom that you can never catch up on. I will never tire of Wizarding politics fics though and there are never enough of those (for me ^^).

AAAAH some time you & I need to have a conversation about Graceling, because that book (along with Fire and Bitterblue) has been the root of SO MANY FEELS for me, and is possibly one of my actual favorite YA reads.

Also, I think your Jesse Eisenberg obsession may be subconsciously rubbing off on me, because my mom called him ugly the other day, and I felt IMMEDIATELY DEFENSIVE, and was like, NOOO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, HE'S PLAIN AT FIRST GLANCE, BUT REALLY HE HAS LOVELY CHEEKBONES AND WONDERFUL CURLY HAIR )))))):

JESSE EISENBERG HAS A FACE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL BAD FOR HURTING HIS FEELINGS but then he talks and while he sometimes comes off awkward, he's also so earnest and expressive AND MAYBE I AM OVERWHELMED WITH FEELINGS, IT'S TRUE. To quote Andrew Garfield, his face (and innocence and vulnerability~) just kind of "engenders this well of joy". Apparently.
