millennials: making my life better
Millennials get a lot of generalized shit in the media, though no one seems able to clearly define what a millennial actually is (where's the cutoff date)? We get told we're not buying houses early, not getting married early, not saving as much, prefer spending money on experiences versus material goods, are drowning in debt, are too into social media, and so on.
But I think millennials are fucking awesome, especially as this shift in generational thinking is sparking the "disruption" in the established market, sparking the start-up companies. They are not without their issues, many of them legal because the law never keeps up with innovation, but still: look at companies like Uber, AirBnB, BlueApron. We're repackaging the established practices and reshaping it in ways that are easier, cheaper, more convenient.
This post brought to you by the fact that I'm planning a trip to Singapore in early August and AirBnB is making me super happy (I've used it before in Portland and Taipei too!), and also the discovery of an online mattress company: Casper.
It comes delivered to you vacuum-sealed in a box and expands to full size! The king size mattress is less than $1000. You have a free 100-day trial period and you can return for a full refund, no hassle, if you decide it's not for you. They come pick it up from you. It's a memory-foam/latex combination mattress, and apparently comfortably firm. Great reviews!
And I am super excited about this because that is so, so much cheaper than going to a mattress store and dealing with salesmen as persistent as car salesmen. It is so much more convenient than trying to get a giant mattress delivered to you and hauled up the stairs. And it is no commitment if it doesn't work out for you. Moving to Houston, the boy and I were going to need a new mattress and this looks like the perfect alternative to try over going into a national chain mattress store and trying to find a mattress we can then ask to be shipped/delivered cross-country to Houston. This is my jam.
Know what else? Luxury Egyptian cotton sheet sets sold online at Brooklinen and Parachute. Good deals, hassle-free. I am here for this.
I also spent a lot of hours online yesterday learning about men's watches, with some directional aid from
nicola_sechs. So that was educational and enlightening! Better idea of what I'm going to be shopping for in the future.

I love disrupters to our crap systems; it really is so refreshing and its fun to watch the fuddie dudes complain and scramble to keep up.
