saturday: my new sunday
Some life changes! At work, I've moved from a Mon-Fri schedule to a Sun-Thu schedule, to help handle/manage Sunday talk shows (political talking heads for the rest of my life, as 2016 election talk gears up already). Originally the plan was to move to that schedule after moving to Texas, but we've pushed it up since I can handle it now.
A really good discussion on the phenomenon of "rude Chinese tourists". As always with general discussions, some comments veer toward racism or overgeneralization, but the top-voted comments are pretty insightful.
In happier news, here is the continuing saga of a gay Buzzfeed writer and Brother Orange, and their fated transcontinental relationship. It's super cute! It's so easy to get emotionally invested in their crazy story but also in the very real friendship they built with each other and each other's families, and it's cool to see how much they learn about themselves and other cultures! Also: yay bonding over food!
Watching Big Bang's No. 1 stages over the past couple weeks has reminded me of the fact that they have no idol friends, as they've said. Aside from people they work with at YG, they don't really cross company borders and have other idol friends -- but they sure do have idol fanboys, especially from this crop of young, new gen idols. They're so eager to meet Big Bang and bow low and excitedly tell them how much they admire/respect them and their ~artistry~. It's hilarious.
Going down the YouTube spiral, I also watched some random eps of JTBC's Hidden Singer and the like. At the end of it all, I concluded that, while I love Sung Si Kyung's voice, Kyuhyun's is still my favorite. ♥
Have met the new permanent members on Abnormal Summit now and they're sweet (well, prickly in Ilya's case and less fun than Enes was), but my faves are still my faves. You can tell the older group are closer too just because they've had longer to get to know each other and each others' quirks. I still don't get why so many fans love Zhang Yu An when I cringe every time he speaks. Means well, good hearted, absolutely, but oh god sometimes I wish he'd get off my side. And those are on the rare occasions we're on the same side. All in all, I've discovered I'm pretty left/liberal-leaning and...yeah, I guess I knew that. And I'm happy here.
Excited for the next set of eps of Where is My Friend's Home? where they visit Julian's family in Belgium! :D I may start those today.

I've seen a few articles about that, one of the comments I found interesting was someone saying people used to complain about the Japanese in the 1980's so. We'll see who they're complaining about next.
Cultural expectations are different after all.

Cultural expectations and culture shock are so interesting to me, but unfortunately they often bring up opinions that overlap with xenophobia or racism. :\
