So on Saturday, I went to the Sci-Fi Spectacular concert put on by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra featuring George Takei! It was a lot of fun; they encouraged people to come dressed in costumes if they wanted, but most of the audience was in slightly dressed-down symphony outfits (nicer side of casual, I suppose). The music was lots of fun - Star Wars theme to open up, a medley of Jetsons/X-Files/SG-1/Twilight Zone themes, music from E.T., Encounters of the Third Kind, and my favorite (being the one I was most emotionally connected to), music from the ST 2009 movie (To Boldly Go).

Also! George Takei came on stage and rambled drunkenly at us a few times. It was hilarious, because I'm not sure he was supposed to be quite that longwinded or quite that drunk, lol. There was also a couple in front of us who kept groping each other the whole time, asked me to take a picture of them during intermission, were unhappy with the picture I took during intermission, and also left ten minutes before the end of the show to, I don't know, avoid traffic? What are we at, a sporting event? (And even then I resent people who leave a game early.)

Anyhow, it was overall an excellent time! And I was also tipsy throughout, because our group had sushi for dinner beforehand, and I ordered a Peach Long Island Iced Tea which was 1) enormous and 2) very strong. I only managed to finish half (I had to save room for all that sushi!) and was still pleasantly buzzed throughout the two hour concert.

I am sad about the hockey results, but as I said elsewhere, I look forward to the US winning gold one day and I can be one of those bitter long-time fans complaining about these bandwagoning kids on my lawn, and how hard I had it back when the US didn't medal... And also burst into tears when the US women's finally win gold.

Now back to the travails and tears of the NHL regular season! I am ready to weep over the Canes.

This is the first time in forever (ever?) that I've rooted for the USA in a major international sporting event. I'm accustomed to rooting for China, or for whatever individual/team I happen to like. But I happen to like the USA team this time around! Hockey is to blame (or thank), of course.

It's been exciting times. Go Team USA in the women's gold medal match tomorrow versus Canada! And go Team USA in the men's semis on Friday versus Canada!

And go Queen Yuna in the free skate tomorrow!

Also, this Giroux pining for Danny in Montreal post-breakup fic is fantastic.

All the new events added are so cool. Basically I am just *____* at everything because every event makes me go "OH GOD HOW ARE YOU DOING THAT?" because it all looks terrifying and ridiculously rough on your body. And yet -- what amazing athletes. So cool.

Super, super excited for hockey, both women's and men's USA teams. (There is so much more ice!) Always enjoy figure skating, including this new team competition. Watched slopestyle and long-track speed skating and luge and everything on TV, basically, because everything is impressive.

In real life news, I fought with a dying car for two weeks (poor baby, it was ten years old with nearly 200,000 miles on it though) before I bought a new car yesterday. Further steps into adulthood! Quite an experience. I fully recommend internet shopping for cars over in-person haggling at the dealership. Man.
