turns away quite leisurely from the disaster

HI HI! I'm back from Pittsburgh and New Jersey and it was fun and there shall be pictures! Eventually. I'm glad to be home because alkdjlfs my bed--I have this bond with it--but I miss my wifey. And I'm not so much looking forward to all the stuff I have to do (hello there, LSATs).

But! I kind of wanna faff around on LJ some before getting productive (this is not new news). So let's meme! :D

I got this from [livejournal.com profile] higherskies eons ago (oh procrastination):

Reply to this post, and I will tell you my favorite icon of yours. Then post this to your own journal using your own favorite icon. (Ya rly, this is my favorite icon of my 6.)

And also, I was reading [livejournal.com profile] hackthis' Heroes fic, and I was staring at her titles, which are so awesome and appropriate. [livejournal.com profile] mistful also has a way with titles, as do some other HP authors. Published authors are good with it too. Who says you can't judge a book by its cover title?

So this other meme: name some titles of fic, books, or poems that you really liked and/or made you want to read the work, regardless of whether the work was any good or not.

Off the top of my head, some of my favorites are below:

-Loved Those of Great Ambition (HP)
-We're Made Out of Blood & Rust (Heroes)
-Even Atlas Fails (Heroes)
-The Internet is the Most Fun You Can Have Without Taking Your Clothes Off (PoT)
-A Consummation Devoutly to be Wished (HP)
-Precision and Other Overlooked Pastimes (HP)
-Probably Everyone in Cell Block E (Ocean's 11)
-Neither French nor Actually Canadian (Bruno & Boots)
-An Incomplete and Cursory List of Hobbies Shindou Hikaru Has Attempted (Hikago)
-Somebody Else's Hand (PoT)
-Blowjobs and Other Cheap Birthday Presents (Supernatural)

-Swordspoint: A Melodrama of Manners (by Ellen Kushner)
-The Lies of Locke Lamora (by Scott Lynch)
-A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (Mark Twain)
-Sorcery and Cecilia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot (by Patricia C. Wrede & Caroline Stevermer)
-A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (by James Joyce)
-A Hat Full of Sky (by Terry Pratchett)
-Something Wicked This Way Comes (Shakespeare, Ray Bradbury)

There are so many more. ::keymash:: I need to do lunch.

Bonus points if you tell me what my subject quote is from. (Here's a hint: it has nothing whatsoever to do with Fascist America, wtf Google.)

And does anyone have an mp3 of Ne-Yo's "So Sick"? 'Cause I can't get it out of my head.

I KNEW I recognized it!!

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. Oh god yes. It's probably my favorite poem evar. :D Did you want something sparkly?

As for the icon meme: I really wanna pick your chibi Ryoma one (hee!), but it's probably this: Image

It's just so sunny and bright and Jiroh-full. :D

[identity profile] nightengale.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
And, consider this one the icon-answering meme (ie, *my* favorite, cause I'm not gonna make a post about it). Though... there's a *lot* of runners-up, including Patration, Bulldogs, Holy crap, Freedom, Cudacuda....*sigh* I hearts them. :3 Downgrading to a free account in the fall is gonna HURT.

Also now I wanna reread Probably Everyone In Cell Block E, but fuck if I can find it on my own....I *will* try, right after I post this, but unless it's in your memories or mine I'm screwed.

Wait, what am I saying. Of course it's in your memories. :D

Also I find myself wanting to read Supernatural fic because of you (and because its title is so intriguing. Goddamnit, wifey.

Plus!! Some good news! Three people came by at the same time to fix the toilet. O_o I get results at least?? ^^;; They're gonna replace it next week and they loaned me a plunger for now. How joyful. ♥

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably Everyone in Cell Block E (http://www.yuletidetreasure.org/archive/13/probablyeveryone.html). :D Not in my memories, I don't think, because I couldn't find it again on LJ. Or I was too lazy to try.

Hee, there are a couple of other good Supernatural fic titles I didn't include, such as "There's gotta be a punch line in here somewhere" and "Chocolate (or the Things You Gotta Do to Get Laid)". Probably more but I haven't been keeping up with Supernatural fic.

As for the icon meme, as tempted as I am to pick the Taito icon, it's probably either of these two:

Image or Image

The first is Mayaquote! Hee. :D

[identity profile] satora-chan.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually have A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court; I just haven't read it yet.

Choose one of my icons! (... out of, like, the fifteen I have)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I don't think I've ever read that either. I know a film was made of it though... There are lots of books/fic with awesome titles that don't interest me besides their titles...

Favorite! Image

Because Mulan is awesome and so re-watchable.

[identity profile] peachpastiche.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought I downloaded So Sick but it wasn't on the album I got -_-;;

(This is my fave icon :3)

pretend i don't fail at html

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas and woe. :(

I like this one: Image

Re: pretend i don't fail at html

[identity profile] peachpastiche.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, it is a wonderful one too <3 I used this one for a long time too.

[identity profile] overshine.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
comment for the meme ♥

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh you have such pretty icons. :D I really like the twins icon for the color and symmetry and heart, but this is my favorite:

Image

It's such a lovely picture of Hikaru. ♥

[identity profile] aka-anonymous.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, I thought he was wearing Gryffindor Quidditch robes.

Maybe I should take a break in rereading the books...hmmm...

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
BUT HP7 IS OUT IN 22 DAYS! *\o/*

I snickered when I read this comment. He does kind of look like he's Gryffindor, doesn't he?

[identity profile] aka-anonymous.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
He totally would be. Stupidly brave and always stumbling into trouble. That sounds like a Gryffindor to me.

Would that make Touya a Slytherin? That would make them rivals...but he's so much more a Hufflepuff, I think. Not quite studious to be a Ravenclaw.

But then, I've just had a couple o' drinks. This is all way too amusing for just a mistaken wardrobe. ^_^ Maybe better to leave this for more sober days...or less.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-06-29 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, thanks! And Pterry is wonderful and I wish he'd release another Discworld book. Or maybe I should just go reread some of his stuff.

Icon! Image! I really like the mudkips one because it is loud and bright, even though I don't get it, but I can't resist me a Hikaru icon. X3

[identity profile] meritjubet.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
*tries to think of titles* *mind blank* Um...

A Study of Motion and Public Indecency [HnG]

And icon? :)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, that is indeed a wonderful title! Do you have a link to the fic? :D

As for icon, it's a tie between the one you're using (oh pretty Hikago) and this:
Image

You have so many pretty icons! I also like the GW Heroes and Ayame+umbrella and Kanda icons. :">

[identity profile] meritjubet.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I have spent many an hour icon hunting ;) I am obsessed, mayhap.

Here (http://community.livejournal.com/zoesqueities/1310.html) it is! :)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
YAY Hikago smut! Thank you. :D

name some titles of fic, books, or poems that you really liked and/or made you want to read the work, regardless of whether the work was any good or not.

A book that I really like and is completely amazing? The Kite Runner (http://www.amazon.com/Kite-Runner-Riverhead-Essential-Editions/dp/1594481776/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/104-5124050-3643938?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1183174970&sr=8-2). I'm reading it right now because my friend e-mailed and said her brother really wants the book back, but it is brilliant and moving and sad and so real I have to remind myself it's not a memoir. <333333333333

I'm also reading (because I'm incapable of reading one thing at a time -_-) Melusine (http://www.amazon.com/Melusine-Sarah-Monette/dp/0441014178/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-5124050-3643938?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1183175258&sr=1-1) by Sarah Monette. I'm reading it because I've heard good things about it, and I believe it's living up to expectations pretty well. :D

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, I've heard good things about "The Kite Runner"--should read it then. :D

What's "Melusine" about?

[identity profile] hametsuenorondo.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Melusine is about a magician, Felix Harrogate, who works at the court of Lord Teverius and lives more or less contentedly until his past as a prostitute is discovered by a rival wizard, forcing him to run away to the man who originally trained him to act as a noble. Mildmay is a thief who has been trained to be an assassin, and, after he undertakes what appeared to be a simple burglary, he is forced into a partnership with Felix.

Oh, and it's got quite a bit of violence and homoerotica. It's actually a pretty dark fantasy. But it's good. :D

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh it sounds so interesting! Also going to put it on my list of things to read. :">

For the past few days, I've been trying to get my hands on "Brethren: Raised by the Wolves" by W.A. Hoffman because I've heard really good things about it. 17th century Caribbean with English lords and French exiles and buccaneers. Yay! Libraries and bookstores fail me, though, so I might just buy it online...

[identity profile] hametsuenorondo.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
... Omg. I want to read it too. 17th century Caribbean with English lords and French exiles and buccaneers? <33333333333 Am going to put that after Mansfield Park on my book list.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It is also gay. :Db

Can't go wrong! I just need to get my hands on it alksdj.

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Me, me! I have greatly uninteresting icons, though. ):

All those titles look terribly interesting. Excepting A Hat Full of Sky; Mishy can't stand Tiffany Aching.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
My god that is so hard to choose. I like KuroFai spazzing! I like Swisshy! I like hearts!

But I picked this: Image

>: Oh FMA.

And I don't really like Pterry's YA books--too moral for my tastes. But I really do like the title of the book. (And tell me if you want links to any of those fics, hee.)
ext_9946: (Default)

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
xD ♥ I like that icon too. It's so appropriate for using in awkward situations. Nice and neutral and sort of nostalgia-inducing. Hmmmm.

I don't know if they're moral or not, seeing as I've never read any of them (violent prejudices, ahoy!) but the tone just annoys the heck out of me. Eats, Shoots, Leaves is a book of brilliant title-age. (which ones are the fics?)

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
The fics are the top half (with fandom names in parantheses and not authors)! :D
ext_9946: (Default)

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2007-07-01 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
I see. Mmmm, maybe The Internet is the Most Fun You Can Have Without Taking Your Clothes Off (PoT), Probably Everyone in Cell Block E (Ocean's 11), and An Incomplete and Cursory List of Hobbies Shindou Hikaru Has Attempted (Hikago)?

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)

THIS IS TEZURYO. IT WAS THE FIRST TEZURYO I READ. INADVERTENTLY. :((( Also the original source of all my and Jaz's mocking of Federer.

[identity profile] forochel.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU COULD HAVE SAID IN YOUR POST THAT IT WAS TEZURYO BECAUSE THEN I WOULDN'T HAVE TO NOW LIVE WITH THE MORTIFICATION OF ASKING FOR A TEZURYO FIC EVEN THOUGH THE NAME TOTALLY RULES ANDANDAND---

I am clearly still violently biased against Tezuka. >: Except for when he's toast. Ahahahah. toast.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-09 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
IT IS OKAY TO BE BIASED. But you should read the fic anyway. You'll come out of with a slightly icky feeling because it's so cute but it's still TezuRyo and --yes, clearly I want to share my trauma.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-14 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
B-but--even Jaz read them! You cannot miss it just because of Fuji. Ignore the rest! Fuji is AMAZING. aNd TaLkS lIkE tHiS ^_^

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-02 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Totally awesome are titles that suddenly make even more sense after you've read the fic/book. I wish I could think of some off the top of my head (I can't 'cause I fail) but they are so shiny. Now I must get my hands on Locke Lamora & also my gay pirates book. D:

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
P.S. (several days later)

THIS IS MY FAVORITE ICON OF YOURS:
Image

...are you surprised? :D If we discount that on principle, because I will always be biased towards Thrill Pair, I like this:

Image

Though the DN/PotC one makes me giggle, and so does the 99% icon. ♥

[identity profile] pastel-colours.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I uploaded "So Sick" here (http://www.mediafire.com/?5jwtm9kmxxm) if you still need it.

... Also, randomly, have you ever been to an anime con or anything like it?

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
;_____; ::clings:: THANK YOU FOR THE SONG.

Also, no. I keep meaning to but--not. I want to go to YaoiCon someday though!

[identity profile] pastel-colours.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
I just got back from Anime Expo in LA today. It was my first con ever, and it was quite overwhelming, haha. I get the feeling that I didn't enjoy it as much as I should have because the entire thing was so MASSIVE. I got lost more than a few times D: At least I got to see the S.K.I.N. debut, though xD

And the people that cosplayed! Some of their outfits were amazing. I can't imagine putting so much time and effort into one single thing.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, AX the largest con in the U.S. or something like that. D: I can see how it'd be overwhelming, especially for a first con. (Some of my friends went last year for the CLAMP panel. ::so jealous::)

But hee, S.K.I.N. That makes me giggle. Were they exciting? :D

And cosplay indeed! I wasted a couple of hours last night staring at cosplay. You know Advent Children right? 'Cause I have some cosplay pics I want to share and drool over.

[identity profile] pastel-colours.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
ADVENT CHILDREN *DROOL*. I've never played FFVII (blasphemy?), but I've watched the movie at least 4 times, and I've read over lots of plot synopses. I saw a lot of AC Cloud cosplayers, but only one FFVII game Cloud. Share, please? :D :D

The S.K.I.N. concert was... loud. It was supposed to start at 3:30 pm, but because of the huge line up and a bunch of delays, it ended up not starting til 5:30. Pictures and videos weren't allowed, but if you look up "SKIN concert" on youtube, I'm sure you'd be able to find various videos, haha. But yeah, the concert was extremely exciting xD They were all camera whores, but that's to be expected :)

P.S. The artist's alley at Cons eats your soul. And your money. Same with the dealer's room. D:

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
LOOK LOOK. I flailed so hard over these. They look unreal but they're actual people. :O (I've seen a couple of other pretty good Tifa and Kadaj cosplays, but these are, like, the epitome of the characers brought to life. alkjsdflkd omg.)

Image (http://img182.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ff7actifato8.jpg) Image (http://img182.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ffyackadajmp3.jpg)

I really like Misa (from DN) cosplays too. She is so cute! I kinda wanna cosplay her.

I'm terrified of cons because I will stare at all the shiny things I cannot afford. It will be tragic.

[identity profile] pastel-colours.livejournal.com 2007-07-03 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
THOSE COSPLAYERS ARE MADE OF SHINY AWESOME. If there were ever a Final Fantasy 7 live action, this is how I'd hope the actors would look like *___*

Misa IS cute. Wearing blond wigs is fun! :D
