So, um, I'm in Beijing and FOR SOME REASON UNKNOWN TO MAN, LJ IS ACCESSIBLE IN CHINA. I'm shocked and happy and confused, but there you go. It may be a temporary thing and access may go away as magically as it appeared, and with just as little warning, so I'm not actually going to stick around and post (sticking with the travel blog) but just a head's up. And a "HI!" from Beijing.

While I'm here, anyone want to send SJM my way? I can wait two months. Let's go, SM!

Whoa, could it be that the coverage of the infamous Great Firewall's is decreasing?? I never really understood why they blocked lj in the first place, or when it first started since when I was in China in summer 2005 it was still accessible, but I'd be overjoyed if they can unblock it so my relatives inside China can read my blog =__= and we need some more China lovers and Russia/China shippers on the Hetalia comm XDD

Possibly! I never understood why they blocked LJ (or blogs in general), either, and I have no idea why only LJ is unblocked now (Blogger & others still blocked). Bizarre.

Well I guess some people might dedicate their personal blogs to certain political issues that are deemed sensitive by the Chinese government, but lj itself is such a broad...blogging base, I mean there's blogs and communities for all sorts of things. I mean there's politics communities to be sure, but I think the majority of communities and blogs on lj have little to do with politics. What puzzled me even more was that something like facebook wasn't censored since it's about as widely used, if not more so, thank lj. Actually it was a good thing they didn't censor facebook because last year during the pre-Olympics controversies on a lot of the facebook groups discussing those issues there was a flood of Chinese users that were all defending China...it makes me think if the government would just de-censor lj I'd get more support from Chinese users on the politics communities when I try to defend China ;A;

Keep us updated though, it'd be awesome if this un-censorship is permanent and not just a glitch in their system.

(Btw, I am totally jealous that you're in Beijing D: I so wish I can be there, haven't seen my dad or his entire side of the family since I visited in 2005 ;__;)

I guess this is why China tries to block all non-Chinese blogging sites, since they can at least check and exert influence on those who blog on Chinese sites. But, yeah, I'm with you - I'm surprised that FB is totally accessible.

If LJ gets blocked again, I'll make a note of it on my travel blog (since obviously I wouldn't be able to make it here). It'd be cool of China had just let it through permanently though!

(I'm here on an internship and none of my family's here...will try to see them if I find time though! :( and I'm sorry it's been so long for you!)

I thought I was gone for a long time and then I realized it was only for a couple of months. =__=; Don't be wary of IMing me on MSN! If I'm doing work, I generally stay offline, so if I am online, then it's fair game. That's actually sort of funny b/c I was a bit ~wary of IMing you, too (I didn't want to bother you or whatnot). :o Hopefully, we will get to talk, even if it's only for a little bit.
