All right. I'm guessing most people seen the post on Mississippi's proposed Personhood Amendment that's being passed around, given that it's shown up on my flist roughly ten times now. The Amendment to the state constitution would define "personhood" to begin at fertilization (of an egg, personhood to a fertilized egg), which not only makes abortion illegal but effectively criminalizes women who have miscarriages and outlaws birth control. Once this law passes, the fertilized egg would be more protected by law than the woman carrying it. And any number of terrible laws could follow, if this law came into effect. It is also unconstitutional, given Roe v. Wade, but the law is basically being passed in order to challenge that decision. That is, once the law is in effect, it is up to those who suffer under it to bring a case against the law and to fight it in court, where the people backing the Amendment will have an opportunity to overturn the current (binding Supreme Court) decision that allows legal abortions.

So I'm going to talk about what you can do - in particular, how you can write to the Democratic National Committee. )

In other news: I baked cookies. Pinboard improvements continue to make me happy. And I finally saw the SNSD English teaser for the song Boys - which is awful. I'm sorry, it sounds terrible. (Like someone elsewhere on the internet said: Who who WHO LET THE BOYS OUT?) But holy smokes, do I see a short-haired blonde Sunny looking like absolute sex? DO WANT. Also, 2/3 of SNSD on Running Man Eps 63 and 64 are out and subbed now. I know what I'm doing tomorrow!

Real life rears its ugly head once again! Not excited about graduation, actually, because the Future is always a terrifying thing for me. I am not a great long-term planner. I wish I knew my path. But for now, some pressing short-term things need to be dealt with, so I am off to do those.

On the bright side, in late April I still have two trips awaiting me: Thailand & Taiwan. ♥ Taiwan! I am so excited. Yes, SJM will still be there. My friend asked if I'd stalk them, to which I replied emphatically, "LOLOL no. I love them but I will not trade my shopping/eating time to stalk them." I may just wish very hard they might randomly appear in front of me, but that is about as much effort as I'm going to put into it. That said, Zhou Mi, feel free to stumble into my life at any moment~

Anyway, hiatus commencing now. Not sure how that will affect my Twitter use yet as I always need an outlet, but fandom activities will cease temporarily. With the exception, of course, of [livejournal.com profile] help_japan: biddings open until March 31st! I will work something out with the winner of my thread / people I end up winning.

I will leave you with two things that make me happy! )

Hit me up if you know where to find me. As always, be good and be happy x I'll be back xx

Yahoo is shutting down Delicious bookmarking service.

(insert Mei freaking out - this icon has never been more appropriate!)

You can export all of your bookmarks. (Delicious → Settings → Export/Backup Bookmarks)

+ One existing alternative is Pinboard.in, though it requires a small fee (that increases with the number of users, so if you want to hop on this bandwagon, hop on it ASAP). It operates exactly as Delicious does (for bookmarking; I don't think it has the same subscription capabilities, which makes me sad). Pinboard allows for importing or mirroring of your Delicious bookmarks.

+ For free bookmarking sites, check out this list and this list. (Most popular fannish alternatives right now are Pinboard and Diigo, potentially Licorize, Google Bookmarks, or Evernote).

+ More up to date (free) alternatives to Delicious in this post.

Freak out or leave helpful links in the comments!

I registered with Pinboard because, whatever, I already pay for LJ, what's $6 for a bookmarking site when I'm already thousands of dollars in debt (thank you, law school). And also because I am stressed out enough right now; I can't deal with fandom bringing more stress. Of course everyone has different priorities, so do some more digging for free alternatives if you'd like.

Now I will return to freaking out about packing/cleaning/moving IRL. I think I need another coffee, oh god.

ETA: For the record, I am meitachi on Pinboard.

Minor LJ hiatus to focus on some RL things. Come talk to me on Twitter or Formspring or (where you will most frequently find me) MSN or Gtalk (email in profile)!

I will leave you with some Tom Hardy and some lulz.

RL called but I'm back now - or the journal is, at least. My presence on LJ will probably still be fairly limited. Things are not perfect but they never are; they are at least making slow progress and that is better than no progress at all, right? Making plans for August, hanging out with friends for food and movies, doing work, cooking a lot, listening to a lot of English songs where I actually care about the lyrics for a change, and reading for J2/SPN, AI RPS (Kradam, of course), and Merlin in my spare time. Hope y'all are doing all right. Take care of yourselves, lovelies. Congratulations, mi España, for winning the World Cup. (¡Viva la Furia Roja!) ♥

champagne apocalypse: in-fucking-credible
champagne apocalypse: in response to my fb status*, some white boy just msgs me and goes: i agree it might seem racist but just casting white people is not inherently racist itself, blah blah something about lotr, but i admit my facts are probably incomplete
champagne apocalypse: me: ...........why the fuck is your first instinct to argue with me instead of to look up the rest of the facts about maybe why i & so many other people are hurt & offended by this movie?

*My current FB status: When you choose to pay to see The Last Airbender, you are paying to support institutionalized racism. If you don't get why, ask me. If you're going to see it anyway, knowing why it's problematic, you are effectively telling me that my experiences - my feelings and stories and LIFE - as a minority are secondary to your 2 hours of whitewashed entertainment.

- This post does an amazing job explaining the history of Facepainting & why TLA is so problematic.
- The Last Airbender primer from Racebending.com
- FAQ on Racebending.com
- Roger Ebert's critical review of TLA, as a film
- Answers to Dumb Questions about why people are upset about TLA

And a personal, emotional reaction. )

This post is not a post for debate. Please take that elsewhere. I have already been emotionally put through the wringer today, the full spectrum of rage to depression to hurt and frustration along the way. Tears have been shed. I'm out to eat dinner with a friend, get tipsy, and go see Eclipse to mock it in an effort to salvage the day.

It makes me sick.

It makes me sick when people are confronted with blatant racism and try to "go back under their rock" or stick their head in the sand. It makes me sick when people close their eyes and plug their ears and try to pretend it doesn't exist. It must be nice to have that luxury, to not think about racism or how it affects you or the people around you. I envy you. I resent you. I judge you.

It makes me sick when people are willfully ignorant.

It makes me sick when people of color are willfully ignorant, or hateful, or turn their backs on issues that will always affect them, whether they want to deal with those issues or not. It makes me sick when a person of color, a minority, will speak out and say, "I am this minority, but X Y and Z discriminatory behaviors don't bother me." How dare you self-aggrandize to the point of erasing the experiences of millions of other people? How dare you say you don't care? How dare you buy into the racism that is perpetuated against you?

How dare you silence others?

How dare you silence yourself?

It makes me sick when people try to ignore the problems obvious in the Hollywood live-action movie Avatar: The Last Airbender. It makes me sick when people acknowledge the problems, but dismiss them. It makes me sick when people acknowledge the problems, find them racist, and still choose to support that racism by paying to see the movie. In no world does two hours of cinematic entertainment justify support of racism. And racism is everyone's problem.

It makes me sick. I was going to post about the World Cup matches today and link to pictures of hot men and cute babies but - I saw this on my flist and it reminded me that some things are more important. This is more important.

Please do not pay money to see the Airbender movie.

If you really want to see it, pirate it. Don't support it.

Dear my flist and people of the world:

Rape is always, always a bad thing. Joking about rape is a bad thing. It undermines its seriousness and tells rapists that you don't think what they did was a big deal.

The overwhelming majority of rape occurs against women, part of the larger, longstanding, and systematic social oppression and exploitation of women. However, both women and men can be raped. Neither should be treated lightly because both are serious crimes and tragedies.

I swear there's something in the water.

Comments are off because a lot of shit happened that has tired me out, including being sick over the weekend. I have a ton of meta stuff I want to post and talk about soon though, so please come talk with me on that post!

Because it's been three years since I've unlocked this journal, I figure June 1st can continue to be the day of Big Changes around here. So here's a little summary:

1. Revamped intro post.
2. Revamped icons and keywords. (My SPN ones make me glee - go take a look!)
3. Kpop moratorium officially lifted! We can talk kpop here again but, not gonna lie, the past two weeks without it were pretty damned nice.

In light of the above, I'd also like to say:

x. DID YOU GUYS HEAR THAT DONGHAE IS A SUNYE-FAN? I knew my boy had good taste. Dude, Sunye was my favorite before I could even recognize Jessica or Sunny. /BEAMS. Someone convince me to write some kpop het in celebration!
x. I have continued reading bucketloads of SPN/J2 fic and I have two recs to make. They're under the cut. )
x. I've officially started writing some Akame. [livejournal.com profile] sapphynashi, be proud of me! I have no idea where it's going and eventually I have to double-back and check out characterization and details, but I am just excited that I've managed to write at all! Snippet under cut. )
x. Caught up with Bakuman and Kimi ni Todoke and am very happy. I love manga - it feels a little like coming home to return to it sometimes. /soppy
x. Now I will find time to read my books, I swear!
x. LOL FEDERER. ¡Vamos Rafa!

ETA: CIN-MOTHERFUCKING-HAE, OKAY? [livejournal.com profile] thundersquall loves me, yes she does. /macks on. Also some Siwon/Minho/Donghae love, fuck yeah. I love it when my biases love each other.
