This is my 2010 World Cup post!

These are the teams of my heart, in order:


ENG | ESP | KOR | USA

But I also sort of support other teams along the way depending on how pretty their players are and how pretty their jerseys are. Caveat: FUCK YOU SWITZERLAND AND YOUR GORGEOUS TYPEFONT ON YOUR JERSEYS. Seriously, ao aesthetically lovely but I will grudge hate you foreverrrr after today's game.

This was going to be a happy flaily WC post! I will endeavor to keep it so. But I do have to say this:

SPAIN WHY DID YOU HAVE TO BREAK MY HEART TODAY. YOU ARE THE ONLY TEAM (OF MINE) SO FAR THAT HAS DONE SO. The world is crumbling around us. :~;!!!




Stuff to know about how Mei fangirls this WC
#1) Everything I know about football I've learned in the past week, since the WC started. My more knowledgeable friends, wikipedia, and random commentary informs most of what I know.

#2) I will use "football" because that is what it is, dammit, and anyway - all the people flailing with me about it are non-USA friends and they all use that term.

#3) An offshoot of above, I don't feel bad at all that the USA is not my first team because why should I have national loyalty in this sport to a country that can't even use the proper term for it and also refuses to understand what the hell the "pitch" is. /JUDGES FOREVER ): But I do still support USMNT because Capt. America is hot, unf.

#4) I am totally, ridiculously, shamelessly shallow about hot footballers. I linked you to the hot football players post before, but here it is again. I am all about the shirtlessness and the jersey-swapping, oh yeah. Maybe weirdly, the four teams I whole-heartedly support are not chosen on the basis of good looks alone (otherwise I would be pulling for France or Switzerland, fuck you both!!).

#5) Mocking Cristiano Ronaldo is one of my joys in life.

#6) Steven Gerrard is my ONE TRUE LOVE. Even though England is consistently overrated in the WC and did not impress me with their game against the USA and I am saddened that they do not live up to expectations of awesomeness. Still, my bias is strong.

#7) I tweet like mad during the games. I have basically watched all the games (granted, the super early ones like the one this morning between Chile & Honduras I only catch the last few minutes of because I don't care that much, but I will unfortunately be up at the asscrack of dawn tomorrow to catch South Korea against Argentina). I find myself hilarious.

Unless my high school Spanish has failed me? Have I forgotten that much? I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be Oo-ru-guay... :[


KOR v. GRE

I did lol a bit to see that all the #kor players have their first names on their jerseys - BECAUSE THEY ALL HAVE 3 LAST NAMES BETWEEN THEM.

#kor looks a lot more structured on the field than Greece to my admittedly untrained and clueless eyes. Hope they win!

I like that Korea's coach is in a suit! /random observations indicative of her awesome football knowledge

THIS MORNING NEW ZEALAND PLAYED SLOVAKIA AND SLOVAKIA SCORED FIRST BUT THEN NZL CAME OUT WITH A GOAL AND EQUALIZED THIRTY SECONDS BEFORE THE END OF THE GAME. IT WAS NZL'S FIRST WC CUP IN 28 YEARS?? AMAZING. SO THAT WAS A 1-1 DRAW.

I MEAN IT WAS NZL'S FIRST WORLD CUP GOAL IN 28 YEARS SO IT WAS AMAZING. YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF THEM FOR PULLING OFF THAT DRAW. :DDD one draw I didn't hate.

Ronaldo is such a diva though. Tbh I find the #civ team attractive too. :D They look better in orange than #ned did.

So Ronaldo took a fall earlier in the match and I think it was a legitimate foul but he's known for diving (pretending to fall to get the other team in trouble) so the CIV player sort of got in his face after he got up and there was a mini confrontation that got them pulled apart by teammates and the ref yellow carded the CIV player but Ronaldo could be very clearly seen to say "FUCK YOU" on tv lololol. /football pitch drama~

NORTH KOREA IS DOING SHOCKINGLY WELL ON DEFENSE but they have like 26 men there (lies, they only have 8 maybe). But brazil is also being lazy/pacing themselves bc they're not pushing hard like they would if they were playing Portugal.

6) I CANNOT TELL MORE UNTIL I SEE ENGLAND PLAY MORE but basically what everyone has told me is that while all the players on the Eng team are individually phenomenal, they seem to have trouble pulling together to do well in World Cups. So they are consistently ranked high but consistently fall short of making semi/finals and so on. It makes me sad because they are my team and I want them to do well this year!!! I WILL LOVE THEM REGARDLESS. But even ignoring Green's awful flub during the USA match, I was not super impressed with England's play. :(

I feel terrible for him too since he is going to be ripped into about it forever, but it still was a horrible mistake. I really do hope he gets other chances to do some spectacular goalkeeping (or maybe England will just replace him with James, who knows). What an awful stigma to have attached to you for the rest of your career. I'm sure he feels horrible enough as it is.
