a more sedate WC update for a change

ITA 2-3 SVK
I'll be honest, I had no feelings for or against Italy coming into this WC and didn't develop any. I was sort of hoping they'd lose and that New Zealand would score just because I wanted New Zealand to advance, but it was nothing personal against Italy.

The drama whore in me is thinking: Holy shit, world champions eliminated in group stages! Holy shit, both finalists in the 2006 World Cup (Italy & France) came in bottom of their groups this year. Insane.

But it was incredibly heartbreaking to see this:

That's the Italian captain consoling a teammate after their loss and elimination. Setting an example for the last time, because it's his last World Cup. NGL, I totally teared up. ;____; God, it hurts to just watch. /clings to [livejournal.com profile] thundersquall

PAR 0-0 NZL
Props to Paraguay for doing well this WC but my heart is all for NZL. They scored the country's first ever points in the WC and were never beaten and made their entire country proud. Plus, their GK Paston rocked. I'm really sad they didn't get to move on.

(Also, they are hot. This is just a bonus though.)

Their appreciation post is here with some really heartbreaking pics and some smiling ones that made me wibble at how classy they've been.

CMR 1-2 NED
No one is surprised that NED advances. I really have nothing to say here because I have no feelings about NED either, except that they were one of the few (the only?) European favorites who actually carried their weight and did well the entire group stages. Can't say the same for, uh, France, Italy, Spain, England, or even Germany (with the upset by Serbia).

JPN 3-1 DEN
Commentators say, "Superb Japan performance" and that pretty much sums it up. Go Asia representation! Really nicely done and Japan's best performance in any World Cup. Obligatory "yatta!" here. \o/ They'll be playing Paraguay next... Well, they might surprise us!

ARASHI CELEBRATION!

And Mishy, I sort of figured it out! Daniel Agger plays for Denmark! I did not pay enough attention to see whether or not he was cute, though. I still refuse to ship him with Nando on principle, of course.

Not going to spam much today, just one video and some links under the cut. I'm saving up my energy for tomorrow.

Here is Stevie G with James Gordon, who is funny and an outrageous flirt. I cannot squee enough over this video, where Stevie plays golf, fanboys the X-Factor (and Leona Lewis), talks about "the missus and the kids", talks about how no one understands his Scouser accent, and is generally madly adorable.

James Gordon talks about Stevie's hair and calls him "a beautiful man" and there is just all sorts of lulz and happiness in this video.

STEVIE, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, IT IS RIDICULOUS.

[livejournal.com profile] meiface: him being silly about the xfactor makes me fangirly okay :(
[livejournal.com profile] meiface: i like him laughing :D :D
[livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2: i don't think you can really use the word cute on someone nine feet taller and like 100 lbs heavier
[livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2: just doesn't work, i think
[livejournal.com profile] meiface: SHUSH
[livejournal.com profile] meiface: HE IS ADORABLE AND I LOVE HIM
[livejournal.com profile] meiface: if i ever meet him irl i will tell him so
[livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2: another word that shouldn't be used for him
[livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2: if you meet him irl, i hope that there is a crowbar in the general vacinity
[livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2: both of them
[livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2: also, lots of sedatives
[livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2: for you and for the people you traumatize.
[livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2: :P
[livejournal.com profile] meiface: HEY
[livejournal.com profile] meiface: i'm tiny i won't be able to knock him over
[livejournal.com profile] 2naonh3_cl2: what?
[livejournal.com profile] meiface: the best i can do is latch onto him and shout I THINK YOU'RE ADORABLE at him
[livejournal.com profile] meiface: it will go very well, i imagine

I have also given in to the fact that find Ronaldo/Kaká stupidly, insanely adorable. In addition to the video I posted about them yesterday, there is also this video where they are wishing viewers a Merry Christmas. Too much cute packed into 23 seconds, fml.

So I predict sometime in the future I will be attempting to write Gerrard/Torres and possibly Ronaldo/Kaká. Oh god. Y'all have permission to lol and mock when that day (inevitably) occurs.

Oh my god I am going to be so stressed out tomorrow. BIG GAMES. CIV v. PRK and BRA v. POR in the morning. Then ESP v. CHI (dlsgkhsdjf nervous) and SUI v. HON in the afternoon. As ever, viva España! Though if they advance, they're most likely going to be facing either Brazil or Portugal. Ugh, why does this world cup hate me? To cheer up, have some beautiful photos of the Spanish NT training. ♥

In non-football news, full-length leak of SJ's new single (ty [livejournal.com profile] catskilt). First impression: I like it. And the more I listen to it, the more I like it. Don't think it's the next Neorago (which remains one of my top 3 favorite SJ songs) but really growing on me. Excited to see the style concept and choreo!

Also, mad props to both Isner and Mahut for their amazingly epic, 11+hrs Wimbledon game that made history. 70-68 for the fifth set, in favor of Isner, but both were astounding and broke almost every record in the book. And yay for Rafa for pulling through. Stop trying to distract me, Wimbledon, I must focus my attention on football for now!

Other observations: the word "queueing" is the only word in the English language with five vowels in a row. I like this word! I do not get to use this world irl, however, because we don't "queue" in America, we "get in line".

I will leave you with this: it is a car!porn song. (As in, porn in a car, not porn between cars, just to clarify...) It is very distinctly SAM/DEAN OMG in my head (ignoring the pronouns) but it can be enjoyed regardless for the lulz. Hey Nickelback, one of the few songs you have that doesn't sound like every other song you have! Sample lyrics: You're beside me on the seat / Got your hand between my knees / And you control how fast we go by just how hard you wanna squeeze. /shibrows

Oh...I did not really watch the games today. Mostly I had it on in the background and swiveled around to watch only when the announcers got super excited over something. And idk, I cry over everything so I am still ;~; when other people cry. But I really don't know much about Italy's team except for the D&G ad they did in their underwear. /knowledgeable

I DO LIKE THAT PICTURE. Glasses, verrry nice. :D

I heard the last 20 minutes picked up and Italy was actually scoring; I didn't realize they'd turned violent. D:

...ADORABLE. He has such a temper though. ): From what I've seen on the pitch anyway. How is Silva? I know less about him.

Oh he's only 5'7"! Omg cuddles. :( Even though that means he's still much taller than me.

awww precious so precious alskdghfj it kills me how basically all of these footballers are married with kids. >:

...I will go fanggirl Yoann Gourcuff, he is currently unattached.

OH GOD I FORGET HOW YOUNG THEY ARE. fml

Oh Italy ;__; That .gif makes me so sad :( Watching sports are always double edge swords to me. On one hand, I'll cheer for the team I'm rooting for, and when they win I'll be jumping up and down. Then the TV shows the losing team crying/hugging and I just die a little inside ;___;
Yay Japan! I was hoping they won. Too bad I didn't watch any of the games today.

That Stevie video is adorable *flails*
So I predict sometime in the future I will be attempting to write Gerrard/Torres and possibly Ronaldo/Kaká.
I LOVE YOU. PLEASE DO. I LACK FUTBOL FIC!

(Want to add in Shweinski? 8D)

I second being stressed for tomorrow's game. God sdkjfoasjf.
I sometimes use queueing actually o_o

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
THERE IS NOTHING CUTER THAN A HAPPY, SMILY STEVIE. I MAY BE SOMEWHAT BIASED. Seriously, this crush is getting out of hand. I lol to think just a few months ago I was feeling this way towards Donghae. Can we compare the differences between Lee Donghae & Stevie Gerrard?

alksdgjfdk OMG SCHWEINSKI GIF OMG THEY MADE A MOMENT EVEN THOUGH SCHWEINSTEIGER WAS SUBBED OUT EEEEEEEEEEE Lukas is half-clothed aldkghfj cute cute cute. I ship them so hard too. They exist cutely in my head but with less filthy porn than Kaká/Ronaldo. Idek.

Are you in the US? /cannot keep track of people. I know it's sometimes used in Canada but I have basically never heard an American use it casually, informally, or familiarly. Or, basically at all when they're not trying to mimic British English.

[identity profile] x-amadare.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
LOL Boy am I going to be torn for the England vs. Germany game djfoaisdfm.

I can't wait till that fic takes form! I need /good/ football fic, seriously. I searched and no luck :'(

I'm in Canada. I guess it's another one of those differences. I was looking at a list of all the terms used in UK/USA/Canada and it was just so interesting /nerding out for fun. 8D

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-26 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I am already torn and heartbroken over the England v. Germany game. I've basically resigned myself to be a little depressed no matter who wins. ;__; I think I will have to pull for England, though, thank you Stevie G. They were my first team in this WC so... ♥

I am one of those geeks who finds grammar and language use really interesting too so I understand! XD

[identity profile] konnistique.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh Gods, that Isner v Mahut match was crazy. I don't get how they went 11+ hours without someone winning (heck, the scoreboard had a meltdown at 50-50 games!) and they're still in Round 1 LOL. It reminded me of that epic long Tezuka/Atobe or Ryoma/Kentarou, but they fail in comparison!

...you really don't use 'queue'? (And you mean 5 vowels, not syllables, right?) Even in professional interactions? :O

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
LOLOL I so meant vowels. See how football ruins my life and destroys my brain cells? I fixed that, thank you. And no we never use queue, not even formally. It's always, "please form a line".

YES THE GAME WAS EPIC AND RIDICULOUS alkdghfj PoT oh the vaguely fond memories of the insanity that was PoT, lol.

[identity profile] catskilt.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Football fic.

Just.

Dies.

Never thought I that I would see the day of football slash fic.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
IT HAS ALWAYS EXISTED! You just...never read it in your time. 8D Though right now mine exist solely in my head. There is not a lot of fantastic football slash fic out there, at least none I've stumbled upon. Woe!

[identity profile] catskilt.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
What would you write about them? I'm genuinely curious lol

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Well Kaká/Ronaldo would be filthy porn to begin with, ngl. Maybe eventually I would branch out into more gen-friendly BFFery turned deeper. :) As for everything else, oh god. CRACKFIC. Gerrard/Torres phone calls being silly and idk, I would have to learn more to write more serious fic. If I ever contemplated more serious fic it would be about the attraction Gerrard & Torres have for each other (on top of already being good friends) and how Gerrard is all DNW ALREADY WENT THROUGH THIS SHIT WITH XABI and also I'd probably have to throw in angst about wives or just make it an open marriage, not really sure yet.

And for German buddies Schweinski, I can't write anything for them because I really know nothing about them besides their names and the picspams of their cuteness hahaha. I'd really have to learn more to even write them fluffy fic.

[identity profile] catskilt.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god, lol. That would be interesting to read XD

There would be a WHOLE lot of angst if you threw in Xabi + wives LOL.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
sobbing, filthy porn with poorly translated Portuguese alskdghf god it is much more amazing in my head than I'm sure it would be in type. But the Gerrando crackfic would be silly and fluffy. /smushes them together. I cannot deal with the LOADS and LOADS of angst just yet. The WC games themselves are stressful enough!

[identity profile] nightflight.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Augh, I know everyone is in love with all of the really good, talented teams, but I am predictable and am SO IN LOVE WITH THE JAPAN TEAM IT HURTS. They're so... cute. Like puppies. I stayed up til 5am to watch their damn game yesterday because they are like ADORABLE LITTLE SOCCER PUPPIES. Being here for so long has really made me so sensitive to any open shows of affection between adult men, so watching all of them jump on Honda and rustle his hair and squeeze him after he kicked that glorious free kick into the goal after his sloppy play vs. Holland made me squeal so much. ToT

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
hey as much as my heart is biased for my teams, I'm also really really excited for the Japanese team. I watched their game today and they really did an incredible job! Plus I agree, I think they are adorable. :D My attention lately has veered away from Asian guys back to more of a Western ideal, which is sort of a weird change, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate attractiveness in both Western & Asian viewpoints. Honda was so cute, I think. \:D/ They deserved that amazing 3-1 win over Denmark. AND NOW TO THE LAST 16, FIRST TIME ON FOREIGN-SOIL. They face Paraguay and I hope they do well!

[identity profile] intomorning.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That gif of the Italian team crying is so sad. :( I read an article this morning, and it was like, "Italy, you dropped the ball. The European teams have not been stepping up. Thank goodness there are OTHER teams from North America and South America, who are ready to play with PASSION. Thank goodness for Lionel Messi. Thank goodness for even the US b/c they have been the hardest-working athletes in Round 1." It just rubbed me the wrong way. :[

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I cannot deal with USA coverage on the WC. It just smacks of too much patronizing of European teams and smugness over (lucky) USA victories. Yes, the USA's done well, but they are not the only fucking team who has worked hard omg shut up. Did you see what I posted in fishingfor about the ESPN ad before the USA-Algeria and England-Slovenia games? It made me so furious that I'm not sure I want to cheer for the USA now. >:| At least not with other USA fans.

[identity profile] intomorning.livejournal.com 2010-06-25 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I mean, I don't mind cheering for the US, but sometimes support/coverage for the US can get obnoxious. :|
