2011 fic meme (this post ended up unnervingly kpop heavy oops)
Year-end fic meme! I'm leaving off the fic I wrote for exchange because it won't be posted until 2012, so even though it was written this year, it won't go towards this year's fic and word count. That said, damn, this is the least I've written for years. The past few months have really been silent. I've been consuming and reading so much instead of producing and writing, which is not a bad thing, obviously, but writing is something I don't want to give up, so I'll work on that next year!

I miss when writing was fun... ;A; No, seriously, this is the most self-indulgent thing ever, with all of my favorite SJM biases, and I regret absolutely nothing. Everyone is adorable and silly, the way I love them. I will never be able to decide between HenHae and HenWook.

Most Popular Fic: give up forever to keep you (SJ: Qmi, R, 4195w)
There was something about this fic that inspired essay-comments. We are all overinvested Qmi fans, okay? Or maybe it's that all Qmi fans are overinvested. ♥ I am glad I wrote this fic though, despite the angsty feelings involved at the time; I've been meaning to write something that would take a slightly more realistic view of homosexuality in the business.
Most Underappreciated Fic: black pine (PoT: FujiRyo, PG)
NO ONE CARES ABOUT POT ANYMORE. Even though this was short, it was super fun to write something not-kpopf or a change and an AU to boot. Approaching Fuji and Ryoma from a completely different perspective! I don't know that I will ever write more, but I sort of like to flesh out the background world in my head.
Most Fun Fic: fridays (SJ: HenHae, PG)
Okay, "Romance for Idiots" and "Creative Truthtelling" were both fun and silly to write, but I love the weird universe I created in this loose days-of-the-week verse. Yes for paranormal investigators HenHae! Yes for murders and talking squid! But never forget that there is paperwork to be done...
Sexiest Fic: All We Have is Here & Now (SJ: KiHae, NC-17, 8725w)
It wins by length. Though possibly the Qmi one was pornier in content. ("what will he jack kyu off with??") I DON'T KNOW HOW TO WRITE SMUT ANYMORE, OKAY? :(
Fic that Shifted My Own Perceptions of the Characters: After the Drought (SME: Zhou Mi, Victoria, PG 850w)
I was going to go with the Chinese fic because, dude, the "characterizations" and tropes common to Chinese fics are so different from what's common in the English fandom. But in the end it was this one - unexpectedly an exploration of Victoria, whom I adore, and her relationship to Zhou Mi and the different ways they see the world. How they're similar too, of course. I sort of redefined my thoughts on Khuntoria here too, haha. Oh Song Qian. ♥
Fic I'm Most Proud of: Unexpected Beatitudes (SJ: MiWon, PG, 1575w)
Um, the fic that isn't posted yet... Or this one. Biblical references? So Siwon. But hopefully not obnoxious either. I was excited to write a Zhou Mi pairing that wasn't Qmi! I sort of converted myself to shipping MiWon with this. (Other things I want to see more of: MiChul, MiHae fuck yeah). I like the way Siwon and Zhou Mi sort of came together from each of their broken relationships/unrequited feelings. I don't know. I just like the idea??
Biggest Disappointment: Dear Post Secret (SME: various and gen, PG, 785w)
Sort of? People liked it and I'm glad! But really this was a cop-out: this was five or six fics I wanted to write but gave up on and condensed into one or two sentences instead. Oh SME, you make me think too much. I am done being this invested in you and your artists. I'll enjoy the shallow performance bits you give me instead.
Oh, also the abandond Arthur/Eames. SO MANY IDEAS. SO MANY HALF-STARTED FICS. :(
Biggest Surprise: I'll Take My Chances While You Take Your Time (HnG: Isumi/OFCs, R, 3425w)
This was one of the first times in a long time a story sort of unfolded before me as I was writing it; I hadn't expected it to take the direction it did or tell the story it did. I started off wanting Isumi to have some one night stands and so he did - and then the rest of the story sort of molded itself into the shape it now stands. I have mixed feelings about it, as always, but I did like that it was something different. Alternatively, the KiHae movie!verse ("I'm Not Drunk")was a surprise too because, uh, I didn't mean at all to write for Donghae's birthday and then I...did. Man, I miss movie!verse KiHae.
Hardest Fic to Write: you reap what you sow (SJ: Qmi, PG, 1570w)
Uh, yeah, I was not in the best of emotional places when I wrote that.
Fic I Want Remembered: give up forever to keep you (SJ: Qmi, R, 4195w)
Oh Qmi, the things you do to my heart. Like I said, I wanted to possibly explore a more real-world consequences of falling in love with a bandmate. I don't think I did that to my satisfaction and yet...there is something about this fic that I'm still proud of. Maybe that Zhou Mi is still uncompromising about who he is, despite Kyuhyun's attitude. Maybe it's Henry. Maybe it's the one line I gave Donghae, whom I love and whom I despair of, but who definitly is strangely wise and mature in ways I don't think fandom gives him enough credit for. I don't know, but it's dear to my heart.
I wouldn't mind the silly, fluffy, feel-good "WARNING: May Induce Nausea" being the one remembered either, though. Qmi can be all fluffy stupid sparkles too.
Goals for Next Year:
OH MY GOD WRITE IN A FUCKING DIFFERENT FANDOM. Seriously. I blame SJM because they are my heart, always, but I really want to challenge myself to write in some new fandoms: Glee, maybe (even though I hate the show...??), or One Piece. I should re-explore some of my manga fandoms. I should try out more Western fandoms. I realize I've begun to use kpop fandom like a crutch because it is easy and familiar and because there is so much "characterization" that is left open to interpretation because 1) it's RPF and 2) the language barrier. Time to get out there and flex some different writing muscles, Mei! ...and try more longfic too? :) Sign up for Yuletide, maybe!
