maybe I'll run into an ex & have to grab a stranger to be my pretend boyfriend

An episode in the tragedy of my life: I was happily washing my coffee pot (because I'm weird and like doing the dishes) and then it just...broke. In my hands. While I was rinsing it out. Apparently the glass just got tired of retaining its coffee pot shape and gave up on life. Who knew that happened?! Coffee pots shouldn't be allowed to have existential crises, goddammit.

So, yes, I know what I will be asking my parents for for my birthday. If I survive until then. D:

Work provides coffee for weekdays but, oh god, the weekends. Maybe I'll go hipster and explore some non-Starbucks coffee shops and go live out a coffee shop AU or something. "Hello, barista, thanks for the latte, would you like to become half an OTP with me and have hilarious miscommunications, hot sex, and eventual happy ending?" Or should I just linger until a hot regular who is secretly a successful novelist falls in love with me or I accidentally spill my drink on a incognito movie star?

Maybe fic has skewed my expectations of reality...

Apropos of nothing, I cooked! Asian style pork chops, sauteed yellow squash and zucchini, with jambalaya rice (granted, the rice was out of a box, but it was rice! I haven't had rice in so long I was becoming less Asian, I swear). And then strawberries for dessert. I really want to make some peach crisp but maybe I'll just wait until fall hits and make apple crisp. Mmm, food is the best.

Have you tried Gevalia? You can get a free coffee maker + something else with its new deals.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-08-23 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
IT'S FUNNY YOU SAY THAT because they're the coffee I currently have! I had no idea they were offering coffee makers though. I should look into that.

[identity profile] kasugai-gummie.livejournal.com 2012-08-23 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I think their most recent live offer is: http://gevalia.com/welcomeback

I haven't used it yet (even though I want that steel scoop omgeeeerd) since I've cut back on coffee and subsist primarily on tea nowadays. Wouldn't know what to do with an extra coffee machine anyway. |D;;

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-08-23 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly I really should just look into a replacement carafe for my machine... I have managed to cut back to just one cup a day! But I can't go without it, hah.

Your birthday is tomorrow, right? In case I forgot to tell you, I love you and happy birthday! ♥ We don't talk much these days, but I still think of you, and you are still one of the best people I know. I miss and adore you! ^-^

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-08-23 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
The 24th! I guess that is tomorrow for you, yes!

alsdkf oh Maiii, thank you so much. ♥ It is the same for me! I really need to suck less at life and send out catch-up emails to people or something, especially since everyone is migrating off LJ. Or maybe give in and Tumblr. Do you Tumble? ;) I hope you're doing well though!

[identity profile] hoyah.livejournal.com 2012-08-24 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I do kind of tumble, but not much. >< I am mostly on Twitter, lol.

The coffee pot was just too sad to continue living. Clearly, Mei, you should have taken it to coffee pot therapy before its inevitable breakdown.

I was never much of a coffee drinker but now that I've started working professionally, I don't know what to do on my coffee breaks other than, you know, pop down to the coffee shop on the first floor of the library and get coffee. /o\ It really is part of the work culture.

Your cooking sounds delicious, and peach crisp omg.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-08-23 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
BUT I WAS SO GOOD TO IT WHY WAS IT SAD? :(( Now I just feel terrible.

Coffee is such an acquired taste/habit - and then the caffeine addiction sinks its claws into you and then the aroma of fresh coffee is like heaven. On the bright side, new research is proving coffee in moderate amounts has health benefits!

Ugh spending your day around books and with a coffee shop on the first floor. I AM SO ENVIOUS.

That is indeed strange! And probably there is some form of connection available on Craiglist, I assume mostly because there is all kinds of connection available on Craiglist, but I am no expert. I'll probably just...buy a replacement carafe if I can find one. Or get a new coffeemaker altogether, idk!

They are pretty simple! They are just pork chops marinated with soy sauce and a splash of vinegar and wine, seasoned with garlic (ginger optional), salt, pepper, cumin and sugar. Baked or fried works, though I currently have no operational oven so everything on the stove!

YELLOW SQUASH AND ZUCCHINI OM NOM NOM. foods of my childhood.

also re: Caffeine - soda for the weekends? it has a shitton of caffeine and is cheap!

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-08-23 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
DELICIOUS FOODS.

Tragically, soda never seems to do anything for me in terms of caffeine and all the sugar makes my mouth feel gross. D: I am just bad at drinking things.

[identity profile] intomorning.livejournal.com 2012-08-23 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Why can't life be like a rom com? You should also try to live out a bookshop AU. You're reaching for a book on a high shelf and the other person helps you... and it just turns out that it's a favorite of his. ;)

As always, talk about food makes me smile and go :Q.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-08-23 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
If life would be a romcom it would be unnecessarily complicated, I feel, and no one would ever be able to properly talk out miscommunications! On the upside, there would be a lot more attractive guys in my life and hilarious antics that I could probably write into a book later on, lol.

Being as short as I am, you'd think that would've happened to me already. AND YET.

IKR. I am not the Hulk! The glass just gave up on life without warning >:(

Your blogs are always so funny. I meant that in the nicest way possible. :)

""Hello, barista, thanks for the latte, would you like to become half an OTP with me and have hilarious miscommunications, hot sex, and eventual happy ending?" Or should I just linger until a hot regular who is secretly a successful novelist falls in love with me or I accidentally spill my drink on a incognito movie star?"

I wish my life was this interesting. Or easy, even.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-08-23 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
haha well I'm glad the tragedy of my life entertains you!! No, but really, all of that happens in all those coffeeshop AU fics I read. Somehow, reality works like that.

...for better or worse.

[identity profile] airplanewishes.livejournal.com 2012-08-24 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
LOL your life is a tragedy? I find that hard to believe. You should see mine. Haha! LOL which coffeeshop AU fics would those be?

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-08-26 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh they're all over in every fandom - Merlin, Teen Wolf, Inception, etc. Suju had a few too, I think, but they were shorter.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-08-26 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :D

YOUR POOR DEPRESSED COFFEE POT. ♥ actually, this reminds me of this one time when I was at my grandparents' place in China (I think I was 8?), where I was trying to drink tea straight out of the teapot - except there was very little tea left, so I kept tilting the pot farther and farther... until the lid fell off the pot. And then instead of letting it go like a sane person, I instinctively dropped the pot to try and catch the lid - which I missed anyway. So the pot broke, and... the lid hit the floor and didn't even break. IN CONCLUSION this has nothing to do with your coffee pot, and also, I love tea. *______*

DELICIOUS FOODS!!!!!

life in a coffee shop!AU would be so cute, omg. so confusing, but so cute. <3

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2012-08-26 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
alskdfjg liz I don't have a proper response to this comment I just want to roll around and sleep and complain about my lack of coffee, although I am drinking tea right now. IT'S NOT THE SAME THOUGH. DDD:
