celebrate your victories while you can, England!

ENG 1-0 SVN

England Party Post | England Party Post 2

Let's celebrate before the inevitable heartbreak on Sunday with GER v. ENG. I can't lie, I'm not optimistic. But let's party it up while we can!

Mad props also to the USMNT for pulling off a (literal) last-minute win against Algeria. I don't even feel bad for Algeria anymore because apparently an Algerian player hit a female journalist post-match. What the shit is that, mate?

I'm not going to repost my tweets today because there are many and they are all incoherent. I have never been as stressed watching a game as I was with today's Group C games. Group D I was a little calmer about because chances were good the entire time that Germany would move on. :) And then Ghana got to move on too, yay! African nation representation!

So first let's have some Becks & suggestive, compromising pictures of footballers, as promised in the cut-text.

Capello & Becks in smart 3-piece suits, both very pleased.

Becks is somewhat less pleased with Rooney. Rooney, you did much better today than in previous games, but you still gotta step it up! Don't let the hair-depression get to you; Becks means well...

Honestly, the entire English NT did a hell of a lot better today than I've seen in their past games. They actually looked like they were trying and that they wanted to win. What is this actual running about and trying to score thing? Must be new.

Or, really, it's just the magic of the red kids. Even though they are polo-less.

(OT: My god I love Stevie's stupid accent. I love everything about him, dammit!)

(OT: Somebody stop me from writing footballer slash; I'm writing Akame, I swear.)

More Becks:

Old pics of Becks having a friendly tumble with everyone's favorite GK-captain:

(That's Iker, I mean. Becks/Casillas!)

On the topic of gay football loving...

Lampard & JT, before JT was a douchecanoe and slept with another teammate's ex-wife. Is it because Lampsy threw you over, JT? Or did he throw you over after your epic bout of Assholery? Oh well, I dislike you as a person, but as long as you're contributing on the pitch to England's win, I will keep my disgust and bitching to a minimum. Morals, I compromise them for sports.

(Tangential anecdote: David Villa escapes official sanction for his infraction during the Spain v. Honduras match, i.e., smacking a Honduras player in the face with the back of his hand. Extenuating circumstances, blah blah blah, he probably deserved to be suspended, honestly. But like I say: morals are for losers, and I'm selfishly glad Villa will still be around to keep scoring for Spain. Though here's hoping he's smart enough to figure out he was fucking lucky to get away with this so maybe he'll stop the temper tantrums in the bigger, more important games, and focus on not missing fucking penalty kicks.)

This is one of my favorite compromising-position-what-the-hell-are-they-doing-don't-they-know-how-that-looks football pics:

(Alas, I have no idea who the guy with his hands up Stevie's shorts is. My, Stevie's kind of a bicycle, isn't he? Everyone gets a ride. If I wrote footballer fic, there would be Stevie/everyone. It exists in my head.)

Another cute picture of Kaká because everyone seems to love him:

But, sorry kids, Kaká only his eyes for his BFF Ronaldo.

Fuck my life, you guys. I am starting to hate Ronaldo less and less. He is still a diva and stupidly theatrical on the pitch, but but - he and Kaká are BFFs who speak Portuguese together and play together on Real Madrid and call each other every night. Ronaldo called Kaká about his red card and said it was unfair! Do you see the way they giggle (manfully) together at the end of that video when they are asking each other questions?

asldkghdfjkl damn the slash fangirl in me, I'll never be able to unship this. Fuck.

But hey, Deustchland won! And looked damned fine in their black kits!

Their party post is here and for some reason features a ton of SPN gifs in the threads.

In conclusion, if ever there was reason to join [livejournal.com profile] ontd_football, it is for the locked post that celebrates the heart-stoppingly gorgeous (and evidently very bashful and sweet) Yoann Gourcuff.

Here is a sample of some of the pictures:

LOL

~*~This is the Yoann love post.~*~

Nando celebrates England's victory by trying to be a boybander:

Seriously, football's ruined my life. Why can't I stop spamming?

To all Canadians over in Ontario & Quebec: earthquake! I hope everyone is all right. ♥ What on earth is the world coming to?

Also, how are Kaká and Ronaldo so cute together? >:3 I've always liked Kaká b/c he seems so nice & he's a good player (he almost died and stopped playing football, but he kept on going! O:) and I've never really seen Ronaldo play, so in my mind he's just the Theatrical Diver, but awww, their friendship makes me :"D.

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
asdkhf all I really know about Kaká is that he is very religious and rarely shows skin and is a very, very good footballer with lots of fans. Despite being such a big name apparently he's still very humble and stuff so he doesn't have as many haters as Ronaldo or even less controversial players like Torres. I was like :O O RLY.

Lol Ronaldo is definitely a theatrical diva on the pitch but I cannot help fangirling his BFFery with Kaká asldkghf omg why so cute. I also totally blanked out and forgot that they would both be able to speak Portuguese to each other. How cute!

[identity profile] intomorning.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
He just seems like a gentleman, on the field? pitch? and off, so that impresses me. :]

"Are you switching between Spanish and Portuguese?"
"I mix everything together!"
SO CUTE, SO CUTE. Look at Ronaldo's grin when Kaká says "blanca." xD

SO CUTE, I KNOW.

BUT BAD NEWS: Germany Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger Could Miss England World Cup 2010 Clash (http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_football/2331179.html) because of a hamstring injury! D:

[identity profile] intomorning.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
OH NO. I saw Schweinsteiger getting his hamstring checked out by medics near the end of the game when he subbed out. :O YOU'RE SUCH A GOOD DEFENDER, SCHWEINSTIEGER. (Whew, typing out his name is a challenge.) THE TEAM NEEDS YOU (but health comes first!).

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
haha I like your horror in caps but then your caveats in the parentheses. I am very T_T but...maybe this will work out for England? And then I feel horrible thinking that because I do love Germany too. :(

[identity profile] intomorning.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not as attached to England b/c I haven't... really seen them play... so mostly, I'm like, "Deutschland! ;_;?" (Okay, I don't really call Germany 'Deutschland' in my head.)

Schweinsteiger, be healthy! It's sad if he can't play, but it would be even worse if he weren't feeling well and then overexerted himself during the game. Can you imagine the commentators? "Well, Bob, Schweinsteiger wasn't feeling well on Wednesday, so we knew that this might have been a possibility. What a devastating loss for the German team. Will they be able to recover and regroup in time to challenge England?" etc., etc. D:

[identity profile] meiface.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Randomly one of my guy friends who's actually into the WC has such a fucking metaphorical hard-on for Landon Donovan and it bugs me because when I'm like "eh, Donovan" he's all "WHAT DO YOU MEAN DID YOU NOT SEE ___ WHY DON'T YOU LOVE HIM, better respect!!!" And while he's pretty way more knowledgeable about the sport in general (though I think a lot of that is informed by reading articles too), it's not like he ever pays attention to it outside of the WC and now he's basically hopping on the AMERICAN PRIDE bandwagon of soccer fans who only pay attention to games when it's relevant to the US. /eyeroll. So he is aggravating me, probably also because he keeps dismissing my opinions as shallow because I've admitted to liking the hot footballers. Yeah, sorry appreciating the attractiveness of the players suddenly invalidates all my other opinions about who I want to win and who I've seen play and who I think is arrogant and who I think will do well.

/rant

Sorry. D: I should go make a post or smth.

...I am amused that you have commentators in your head aldkghfj. I do hope he's okay though! But I guess I will be sad no matter who wins or loses. It is inevitable.

[identity profile] intomorning.livejournal.com 2010-06-24 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
No problem about the rant. Just b/c you like hot football players doesn't mean you don't/can't appreciate football, the game. You can like BOTH, and one doesn't automatically invalidate the other. :|

Haha, I love imitating commentators! 8D
