Holy craaaaap, Hawaii Five-0. What is it? A remake of the 1960s tv show Hawaii Five-O. It's on CBS on Monday nights, 10/9 central. It stars Alex O'Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim, and Grace Park. I am sort of a little bit totally in love with it.

Here is the synopsis from Wiki: Hawaii Five-0 is an American procedural crime drama television series [that] follows an elite unit/task force set up to fight crime in the state of Hawaii.

Blame 2naonh3_cl2, who saved H50 fics on her delicious, which I read when I got bored and tired of Inception and Merlin fics. Who gets into new fandoms via fic? I've done it so many times in the past, not knowing canon before I dove in. Dude. Dude.



☆ PRIMER: Here is a primer for the show. It has pictures! It is shiny! You should go look at it as the following is mostly incomprehensible squee on my part. You know how it goes.

☆ WHY I LOVE THIS SHOW: I will give you a short list of things I love about this show:

1. It's set in Hawaii. It is fucking gorgeous asdlgkhf I want to go to Hawaii. :(

2. Two Asian actors in lead roles! Not the two main leads, sadly, but still! Lead roles!

3. Grace Paaaaaaark ♥ I sadly never watched Battlestar Galactica so my intro to her was via West 32nd (great film, even though John Cho's hair was a tragedy). She's so awesome here as Kono though, so fucking badass when she needs to be but still just so - human, I guess? Like, she doesn't have to be physically badass to be awesome, is what I'm trying to say. She's cute and funny and a surfer and loyal and cares a lot about people and she can kick your ass physically. That's just a bonus. ANOTHER BONUS: SURFING IN A BIKINI. :)



4. Alex O'Loughlin oh my god be shirtless all the time. Although the black tee is nice too. Or suit, mm. He plays Steve, former Navy SEAL, bad-fucking-ass, breaks all the rules, has a tramp stamp (lol yes for real), runs fast, swims a lot, shoots guns, dangles people off buildings, throws people into shark cages... Makes the softest looking eyes at his partner Danny, who likes to yell at him about all the rules he's breaking, and the two of them totally joke and yell and smile at each other and engage in married bickering. I just. It's adorable because I'm a total sucker for banter, yes, but holy crap the way Steve smiles at Danny, it's just precious. It's like he's genuinely baffled but intrigued by this strange anomaly that is Danny, and finds that he really likes the guy despite all the yelling because Danny really is a good guy and a good father and-- LOOK, JUST WATCH THE SHOW, YOU CAN TELL FROM JUST WATCHING STEVE'S FACE, HE TOTALLY HAS A CRUSH. ♥



5. Daniel Dae Kiiiiiiiiiiiiim and his backstoryyy and he rides a fucking motorcycle and is hot and competent and has an angsty past (of course). I never watched LOST, I really have nothing else to say here haha.



6. SCOTT CAAN WHY ARE YOU TINY AND WHY DO I LOVE YOU SO. Just. Danny. He wears ties and a nice button-up shirt in Hawaii and is in love with Jersey and hates pineapple and rants and shouts and rambles and is totally hot-headed no matter what he says -- but he's such a by-the-book good cop, believes in honor and loyalty and all of that, and oh my god he's such a good dad. He loves his little girl so much, I want to die every time they have a scene together. And he hates Steve at first but now he's just a constant irritation and they get along and they trust each other and they're partners, but Danny doesn't really get Steve, who is basically an endless source of stress and frustration and panic for Danny, but someone Danny does in the end respect and-- And Danny is kind of clueless about the crush, okay. I totally believe this.



7. THE TEAM TOGETHER AS A WHOLE. \o/ I love that they rely on each other and that they are all genuinely involved and important, they are ~ohana~ you guys alkdhgdfj. Because ohana means family, I learned this from Lilo & Stitch, THAT SCENE THAT MADE ME CRY. ♥♥♥



The plots are totally ridiculous, the show is not perfect, there are a number of things that make me raise an eyebrow or frown, particularly as to portrayals of race/bad guys and, uh, legal procedures and violations of due process, etc etc, but I definitely think the show tries. And the team is really lovely together. And I am still in love with Grace Park. And of course the Steve/Danny bickering. Also, you know, gunfights and shootouts and car chases and things blowing up! I like.

Also, lol, Chin (DDK's character) and Steve were both totally quarterbacks of their high school football teams loling - why does this cliché totally make me giddy? I DON'T EVEN KNOW BUT IT'S A DETAIL THAT MAKES ME GRIN.

☆ FANDOM: There is fic! Of course there is fic. There is not nearly enough fic for my tastes but that is because I am greedy.

And alksdghfj okay, this is more White Male Cock, which makes me falter a bit but, well, I own up to my biases and ridiculousness. For the record, there is Danny/Kono and Steve/Chin and other shiny things besides the fandom-standard-OTP of Steve/Danny out there! I am just predictable, as always, and have taken a shine on to the partners who care about each other but bicker like a bickering couple. Yes. Look at the way Steve looks at Danny. *_____* Not that he doesn't fuck other people; he so does. (Canonically too!)

There's already a bingo sheet for this show. I'm laughing because it's so true.

SERIOUSLY I THOUGHT IT WAS A FANMADE FANVID AT FIRST. AMAZING.

Oh man one of my favorite moments-- like, all of them? Every time Steve does something nice for Danny re: Grace. When he shows up to Danny's ex-partner's you-know-what in his dress blues just for Danny and support alksdghdf. GOD.

I really love the phone convo while Steve's on the USS Missouri though:

Honestly, I came away from the first few episodes expecting some Danny/Kono - but then there was that pretty environmentalist ex-surfer white boy and I was like YEAH KONO GO KONO! ♥ which is basically when I decided Danny was free to be married to Steve.

But oh man I'm loving the Asian representation. The good guys are Asian! The bad guys are Asian! The morally ambiguous good guys are Asian! The authority figures are Asian! The bad guys with a soul are Asian!

The only thing that would make me love this show more is if Daniel Henney came on it *-* (dude I'd ship Daniel'scharacter/Steve in a HEARTBEAT) or maybe JOHN CHO!! MAKE IT HAPPEN HOLLYWOOD
